Stanks Go Perpetual In 2018!

Just the opposite happening in CA in less than 1 mo. of legal. New clone limits of 6 down from 99 are already squeezing out small clone farms. A well known large dispensary admits clone sales down 80% since legalization. :Namaste:

Kind of proves my point. Is it the legalization that caused that drop or the attempted control via regulations that caused that drop in sales? In my eyes, there has to be some sort of correlation. Reduce allotted slots and for those attempting to remain 'legal' that means less means to buy those clones. Also, are you allowed to buy cannabis seeds at dispensaries out there? Has that market increased during those times? I know for me, I would have a hard time buying a clone because of risks bringing something unwanted into my garden.

All of this stuff is going to take a while to play out. On top of that, all new markets are going to be created that we aren't even aware of.

So true. I'm keeping relatively quiet about my ideas for legalization but I'll admit that I am very carefully talking to 2 investors today. I have 3 solid ideas.

Veg Day 1 Update

Big day for these girls today. It starts their official change to "Veg" following their 7 day seedling period. Both were rewarded with a little ACT this morning courtesy of Ms Stank (I was wondering if she was going to remember to do that without any reminding....props baby). The second set of leaves are starting to come in so things should start to pick up. Will begin looking for signs of roots later today. The Harlequins are officially out of their humidity dome and are out living in the real world now. We have a small fan blowing on them to start strengthening them up.

Got the tent downstairs all set up for the new runs of girls. Moved the Nukeheads into the tent yesterday and they are enjoying life under the Perfect Sun Dwarf Star. I swapped out the Mars I had in there and want to compare how the different LEDs seem to perform in veg. Will give these Harlequins a few more days under the small T5 before moving them to the small tent. Environment is holding steady at where I expect it to be.....low humidity, cooler temps. RH is staying between 20-30% and temps are ranging from 68-82 in the tent. The 68 is with lights off around 5am so I am good with the temp range.

Wow...already off to veg...seems like just yesterday they were only beans...

New regs. & controls enacted under legalization. Lots of rules.....most cities now prohibit outdoor growing. Fuzzy situation....medical still exists but IDK its future in CA. Yes most dispensaries offer limited selection of seeds. Can't say anything about changes in market for anything.....haven't been in a dispensary for many yrs. Get some emails that allow me to see what's being offered nowadays. Know what you mean about clones.....even after CA medical in 1995 good genetics in seeds not so easy to get. Medical growers were wary about using online seed banks due to risk from feds. To get good genetics I had to drive all over NorCal for clones. Lots of average, a few darn good, a few pest infested. Haven't had a clone in the house since starting indoors......really tempted a few times when had chance to get legit elite cuts. :Namaste:

Perpetual Update

I was a little restless this afternoon so I decided to start my first plants a couple day early. I intend to start these a little differently than I normally do. I am going to eliminate the paper towel portion and put them in the soil directly after their initial soak. I am doing this because I have read starting them directly in soil can potentially bring on stronger and healthier plants but the germination rate isn't generally as high as doing them in paper towels. I don't mind that since for this particular strain I have plenty of seeds!

I selected Stankberry as the next Strain to grow. I am dropping two beans which were randomly selected. I toyed with looking for the two best looking beans but decided to go completely random. The seeds ended up as average looking beans for this particular strain. Stankberry, for those who didn't follow my previous journal are a cross I made from my strong ATF#4 male and the Blueberry female. ATF is a great grower and big yielder and great for my back pain. The blueberry, while not necessarily a mom I would have chosen had I grown more than one blueberry due to her slower and smaller growth rate....but her smoke was top notch. So I figure this has the potential to tell me if Stankberry is a strain worth working on more in the future (with a stronger Blueberry female).

I am not sure what the flowering times will be on Stankberry. ATF is about 70-77 days and Blueberry is 55-65 Days. I am guessing somewhere around 65 days. Anyways, Stankberry is dropped. Blue Dream will follow on her scheduled drop date which is Monday of next week, followed by Northern Lights 2 weeks later.

So is your Seed Company going to be called "Stank's Seeds" ? I think the farming part may be a better move!

Stank Genetics is the name for now. Still in the planning phase brother. I have no desire what so ever to grow weed commercially. My brother does that in Washington state and there is zero appeal in it. For me, strain creation and having the patience to grow things out, select what you want and repeat is much more appealing. I am not looking for anything large scale.....I don't want this to 'take over' the weed world. I just want to find a way to combine something I love (growing), with experimentation (breeding) and that can be a way to make a decent living (and for us, thats nothing crazy....we are simple home bodies).

Its my thought that as cannabis continues to become legalized across the USA and more people decide to grow on their own......the market will explode. There are only 5 states with recreational use being legal and 29 plus DC having legalized medicinal use. Imagine how many people will choose to grow on their own when they can without fear of prosecution. The business in the grow store I go to has more than doubled since last year.....granted a lot of it will subside after initial investments are made in lights, tents, fans, filters, pots, etc.....but one thing that won't change is the desire to try new strains or search for 'straight up fire'.

Missed this earlier BL.....and it speaks to the attempted control the government is seeking on this. I realize there needs to be some sort of regulations, especially to protect consumers but outside of that, I don't have much use for rules and regulations anymore. Just more attempts to maximize their gains is what it boils down to. How can those in power, potentially profit from manipulating rules and regulations. Take our state of Massachusetts.....they passed the recreational on the ballot in November. I kid you not, less than two weeks after the election they were already beginning to try and change the tax rate on cannabis. God forbid they don't get a big enough slice of the pie. And the reality is few if any of these rules or regulations really protects anyone from anything.....its all an attempt to figure out how to take more for us while gaining more control over us. Massachusetts is still trying to figure out how to invoke the max tax rate of 28%. They have gone from 12% up to 20% but thats still not enough....they want 28%. Politicians.....whores (and not the good kind) for hire is all they are. Doesn't matter red or blue, they all want the same.

Seed Update

Got some new genetics today. I bought the Greenhouse Jack Herer Auto (yes I will grow an auto) for a group grow with some of my Canadian and American friends. The prize for me was the Ghost Train Haze. And of course with Seedsman, a nice batch of freebies. I bought 22 seeds and got 18 free. Many times I manage to get more freebies than I actually buy, but not this last time.

The Ghost Train Haze is a winner in my books!

Yeah I am thinking of sliding a bean or two in to the perpetual in a month or two. Been eyeing it for a while but it always seems to be out of stock when I was ordering

Nice start to you Stanks! I love the entrepreneurial spirit with the genetics and breeding. I'm going to start doing some of that myself this year.

I can already tell this journal will move too fast for me to keep up with but I'll pop in now and again to say hello. I really like the way you think, Mr. Stank and your opinions on politics and business are pretty similar to mine. There are many niches to explore and the market is going to just keep expanding. I would way rather occupy a small niche and make a decent living then go commercial and do things just for the bottom line. I just keep pushing myself to learn how to make anything a dispensary carries. That knowledge may be valuable or lead to a good break someday. If it doesn't I will be happy knowing I can do anything at my own home and that's pretty dang cool too.

Look like a great start and I'm anxious to see Stank Genetics in full action! I'd wish you guys luck but you don't need it. I will however sacrifice a large bowl to the grow gods in your guys's honor to keep the pests at bay and the equipment working properly! ;)
