Stanks Go Perpetual In 2018!

My concern for instance with the ATF X Blueberry seeds. Say you plant 12 seeds and end up with 8 females. PRIOR to the cross you know/knew what you were looking for in the plants. But suppose you have a plant that's not as big or vigorous growing so you decide to cut it down since it's not a pheno you're looking for in these plants. Being a cross, would it be possible to be the smoothest tasting, best blend of the high from both plants, and be the longest lasting high? Might not produce as much fruit as the other plants but still something you would love to smoke.

I crossed a Nirvana Wonder Woman male with a beautiful White Widow female plant. I think I got about 60 seeds because I only pollinate a bud or three. I am strictly small time and can only grow 5 plants at a time in my grow tent. But I will veg 5, take 2 clones from each. Grow out all 5 plants, dry and cure it, and sample each plant In my case if I had no male from the 5 seeds I would select my 2 favorite phenos and work with them. I would get rid of all the clones except for the 4 of them. Two I would start to grow out at a good pace, the other two grown slowly. Spraying one branch on the #1 pheno looking to make female pollen with which to pollinate both plants. This would give me feminized seeds as well as a more stalized cross.

If I am wrong PLEASE explain why so I can learn the right way to do this.

No, you aren't wrong. But understand everyones growing situation is different. I don't have the legal limit to grow the way I want to grow. If I could have unlimited seedlings/juvenile plants, I would probably do exactly what you describe. But I have to run enough strains to keep me cabinets full, run enough strains to learn what I like or don't particularly care for, grow the ones I like out enough to know what I can possibly expect, and do this all within a 12 plant limit.

So based on that situation, I am willing to take a chance that a smaller looking, slow growing, lower yielding plant isn't going to be my unicorn. Every person wanting to do any breeding or cross breeding has to decide the parameters which they want or need to operate within. I am sure as I get a few hundred plants under my belt, I will have a better eye for what i am looking for.

Also keep in mind Beez.....that as a breeder (commercial), you are trying to produce something that your customer base wants. They want higher producing plants that grow generally potent buds with great taste and smells and most of them don't want to wait 12-14 weeks. So you are looking for strains that fill enough of those checkmarks that people are willing to buy enough of your stuff that you can make a living. Most customers don't want to pay for a strain that will only produce an ounce or so that will take them 12 weeks.

That doesn't mean there isn't a customer base to buy a lower yielding, smooth tasting, potent crop if they have the time and space to grow it. But is there enough to make it worth developing and stabilizing a strain or cross of 2 strains. The way my brain works as it pertains to breeding and growing strains out......using your ATF x Blueberry example.......and understanding the general genetics and chromosome make up of cannabis.....is that there are only so many combinations of Dominant and recessive traits combinations that are possible. Chances are if I found something from a smoke quality standpoint, I would be able to find that again in one of the other 500+ seeds and hopefully it will be a better growing or producing plant. Sure, there is a chance that I might not find it again and that would suck. But if the genetics were good going in, and the cross is a good cross (i.e. a keeper) then I should be able to find another one close or even better. (Cannabis only gets 10 chromosomes from each parent).

Now all of that rambling doesn't dismiss your point above. There is always a chance of losing genetics if you don't take a clone off of every plant you run. For me its about risk vs reward. I have taken clones up to 29 days from the flip, successfully. If a plant doesn't start showing me a reason to take a clone by that point other than for the "what if" factor.....then I just won't take it (assuming I am growing under a plant limit).

I like the idea of always taking a clone, if I had the space i would take a clone of every gal just in case I wanted to remake an f1 or R1 but I see what your saying about finding another in the beanbag, I just hope the extra space we are building will provide a better ability to breed. I know you gotta worry about plant limits lol I'm already over mine with one .

:laughtwo: I always make mention of trying to stay within my plant limit and the people that live in places where it is completely illegal must get annoyed by it. Since you are right even one is too many according to the states they live in. Even 10 years ago I am sure most people on the forums were illegal no matter how big their grow was. Even in the "legal" states there are people doing things bigger than their state would like. I know a med grower that is always over his limit. He has just stopped worrying about it. Every summer he has 18+ plants outside plus whatever he has going on indoors. During the winter his indoor grow is always fairly high in the plant count. He once mentioned having just harvested 72 plants he had in his 8x10 room :laughtwo:

Hope everyone is having a great weekend and enjoying your Sunday. Things are a bit quiet here today. No transplanting, watering, dropping of beans, mixing of soil, or anything else since I already started the next batch of ACT. Just a nice relaxing day to spend chilling with the family. Ms Stank made a delicious breakfast as she usually does on Sunday mornings. Ok lets see what else we have on the docket for today........

Yeah I am very hesitant of stepping over those legal limits. For one, we live next to our landlord and I am positive that they know we grow but I don't want them to have any additional reason to want to either either unfairly raise the rent or just flat out ask us to leave. Plus I know once I find justification to exceed the legal plant limit, I probably won't go back to the legal limits LOL. Now that might change once Ms Stank and I get property out in the mountains somewhere away from everyone. Though I know myself......if I push the limit a bit with clones, then hell why not push it a little with plants in veg and hell since we are already breaking the law why not flower a few extras as well.

Wow, I hear "harvested 72 plants" and it makes my hands and neck hurt. Harvesting and trimming 2 plants in one day are enough to make me dislike harvests LOL.

Def not annoyed lol maybe envious of anything! It’s more exciting I think, but still gotta take it serious as one little minor booboo and that’s a wrap, I’d feel more relaxed having better laws I think .

LOL, yeah I am definitely not a jail or prison kind of guy. I love me freedom far too much!

Ya I try and stay within the law as much as possible and try to be as discrete as I can. Even in legal states it is best not to advertise what you are doing. Envious is reasonable. I guess I just meant I shouldnt complain about being able to grow even within a limit.

Yeah 72 plants would be a bit much. I am sure he just cut them and hung them up all together. I once went over after his outdoor harvest and saw all he had hanging. He told me he pulled 7 pounds that year. Next year was 8 and then 20! :thedoubletake: I cant even want to trim that much :laughtwo: I have trimmed a 9.5 ounce plant and that sucked, the best plants he told me about having yielded 2 pounds. I enjoy growing I loathe trimming though :)

Trimming was fun for my very first plant harvest. After that its novelty has certainly diminished LOL. Its also one of the appealing aspects of doing the perpetual. Worst case scenario I might have two plants to harvest in the same week. Best case scenario I am trimming once every 2 weeks and while thats still a lot of trimming over the course of a year, I can break it up and not worry about the fact I still have 3 or 4 more plants to chop.

On a side note, its warming up here so my humidity has increased quite a bit. Without the humidifier its about 30% which is really high for the winter time. With the humidifier, I am sitting around 38-40%. Thats about the absolute best case scenario for me for this time of the year. I will look at the option of one of those big humidifier for the whole downstairs.

It is good your humidity has rebounded some bud. Yeah the novelty of trimming wore off pretty quick. The first couple of times was exciting. Then as time went on not so much. Now it is just a necessary part of the process. Your thoughts on perpetual harvest is spot on. I find I have times where harvests are pretty clustered and then other times where I go a few weeks without cutting. If I have two plants that are ready at the same time I will take one one day and one the next so that I can trim them on two separate days and not have to do two in a day!

Afternoon 420! Hope everyone is well. Quick update....the Stankberry beans have broken the surface (barely). I will give them until this evening before I try to take a picture of them.

Ms Stanks Harlequins are doing great and starting to really grow nicely. Roots are visible on both plants. They got a little drink of ACT last night and seem to be loving it. They will go into the tent under the LED tomorrow.

Will be dropping a Blue Dream bean into water/h2o2 this afternoon. I am tempted to test out the direct germinate into soil again after it sinks.....but I think I am going to go with the paper towel germination method again on this one. Still batting 1000% with that method. My biggest decision will be to try the Humboldt version or the 420 verson.....hmmmmm.

I went by 420 again recently and was very impressed with the looks of their newest strain. This strawberry kush grows well, but the strawberry cough they have looks to be next level!

Both of those are strains I am looking forward to picking up! I have always heard good things about Strawberry Cough. I almost bought a package from Dutch Passion but something didn't feel right. (I tent to trust my gut instinct on shit like that LOL)

You and ms Stank are doing great I see. I have to say that the Chocolate Mint OG of mine came from humboldt, but that does not mean a other strain is great I guess. Ah Well i smoked my first cmog 30 mins ago and when is tarted typing I really tought it was a great story lol!

I just put 2 of the ATF seeds in water... you made Some great beans mister, I had to Share these pics with you :)
