Stanks Go Perpetual In 2018!

Ohhh, if you pop the Ghost Train Haze, please make a journal....
I have been very interested in this strain!

It will be run right in here Spec......you can have a front road seat from your current chair brother....you won't even have to get up!

I want to pop his Moonshine Haze but never think of it when I'm pulling beans out.

I have been wanting to get those as well. They are next on the docket from Rare Dankness. LOL, we need to compare inventory!

Lol your jack is going to be the quickest to the finish that’s for sure! Harley and Quinn are looking awesome brother, and I am overly excited that you’re growing some StankBerry’s!

We will all be running autos for that group grow. The canadian growers are going to grow out CKS Jack Herer Autos and the Yanks are going to grow out the Greenhouse Jack Herer Autos. Should be fun.

The Stankberries got planted directly in soil yesterday......I figure it will take an extra day or two for them to pop over my traditional germination method. Curious to see if there is any difference in the early development of the plant trying it this way.

The Stankberry should be a winner!

We will find out around around May 15th since thats the estimated harvest date LOL.

A beautiful plant to grow....heavy branching & yield w/ real nice flowers....but not deserving of the heavy hype it was getting as "one of the strongest strains on earth." Not even close. :Namaste:

Hey BL, thanks for the input brother. I am not one to go seeking the strains with the highest THC content. I have a few friends that have smoked it and they raved about it so that led me to want to try it. I think Vex is one that loves the Ghost Train Haze. I am interested to see how I will like it as well as how it will grow.

No it’s not even close but you have to remember that bud was grown specifically for the C Cup competition.

Very good point!

Didn't mean to sound harsh....a nice smoke but the hype around it likely made me expect more. Gave away most of the pack but saved 1-2 to give it another look down the line. :Namaste:

As someone who has grown for a while BL, what would you say is a fair number of beans to grow out for a strain before you have a feel for what its going to produce and how its going to grow. In my mind I think that number would be in the 10-20 plants of a strain......of course the stability of the strain will impact that number.

Harlequin Veg Day 3 Update

Still slow going with these two. Ms Stanks plants are progressing as they should be at this point. All the action is taking place below the soil. We saw our first roots on both plants yesterday. Will post the root pics on Veg Day 7. Both plants are starting their third set of leaves. #1, the first to pop above the surface, is the shorter more compact of the two. I wonder if the two plants will continue to grow as they are. They will be going into the tent under the LED in a couple more days.

Temps are staying in the 70s, generally sitting in the 70-78 range. Our RH is still low, was 16% today when we woke up. I added the smaller humidifier into the tent and it raises it a little bit, but not much. Anyways, here are the little rug rats.

Even a single plant if grown well will tell you a lot. 2-5 fills in a lot of details/nuances. "10-20" tells me you love the strain & have become quite knowledgeable about it. If considering something for breeding like you are, then as many as you can for selection purposes & overall strain knowledge/familiarity. So I'd agree with your "10-20" if not more when using strain for breeding. You're also right about stability....a few will be exactly alike from the 1st plant. Others like some of these modern elite cut poly-hybrids, one could grow 10 & even get 10 variations. :Namaste:

The trick is finding that plant that outshines all the rest and at least have a clone of it.

To stabilize the strain and cull the unwanted phenos would he not have to have rooted clones of all the plants? At least one for sure. Then once the first group of say 12 plants has been harvested and cured you can select the plants that are most to your liking. Hopefully a male showed up and was cloned. Then the brutal part. Kill off all the clones not selected as the best liked phenos. At that point if you have a male clone grow him out along with the clones of the phenos you liked. Use the male to pollinate the females. If I am not mistaken (always possible) the resulting seeds will produce F2 plants.

If no male is around from the original 12 plants then work to produce female pollen on one of the plants and use that pollen to fertilize the other pheno plants (if any) and also self pollinate the pollen generating plant. This is how I would do it. If nothing else someone will correct the errors above and I'll gladly learn from it.

Thats pretty close to what you would want to do.....unless of course you are looking for a particular pheno of a strain you are familiar with. At which point you could forgo growing every single plant out. You could select only the plant you are interested in and clone it and do what you described.

For me, when I actually get into real Pheno hunting, I will want to grow a few of a particular strain out just to see how it tends to grow and produce before I really get going into the pheno search. Its tough to know a great growing plant of a particular strain if you aren't intimately familiar with it. Now, that doesn't mean you might not see a plant or two in your familiarization grows that looks exceptional and I would definitely clone those out.

Ask 20 breeders and I am sure you would get at least 10 different answers on how they go about doing things.

You pretty much have it, I wouldn’t self the mother but just run clones if it’s really good.

Yeah thats what I would do if I just wanted the bud from a particular strains pheno you have on hand. Of course you could make S1's if you wanted to share your find with friends!!

My concern for instance with the ATF X Blueberry seeds. Say you plant 12 seeds and end up with 8 females. PRIOR to the cross you know/knew what you were looking for in the plants. But suppose you have a plant that's not as big or vigorous growing so you decide to cut it down since it's not a pheno you're looking for in these plants. Being a cross, would it be possible to be the smoothest tasting, best blend of the high from both plants, and be the longest lasting high? Might not produce as much fruit as the other plants but still something you would love to smoke.

I crossed a Nirvana Wonder Woman male with a beautiful White Widow female plant. I think I got about 60 seeds because I only pollinate a bud or three. I am strictly small time and can only grow 5 plants at a time in my grow tent. But I will veg 5, take 2 clones from each. Grow out all 5 plants, dry and cure it, and sample each plant In my case if I had no male from the 5 seeds I would select my 2 favorite phenos and work with them. I would get rid of all the clones except for the 4 of them. Two I would start to grow out at a good pace, the other two grown slowly. Spraying one branch on the #1 pheno looking to make female pollen with which to pollinate both plants. This would give me feminized seeds as well as a more stalized cross.

If I am wrong PLEASE explain why so I can learn the right way to do this.

I'm still trying to accomplish just pollinating the branch/plant I want to...and not all the rest

Lol

Think it's all a learning curve, bummer thing it takes months to really narrow things down, but, that's part of the fun, right
