Stanks Go Perpetual In 2018!

Harlequin #2 Flip Day 3

Saving the best for last tonight. Ms Stanks 1st girl in flower and she is really excited about it (she probably won't admit that here lol) and keeps looking for hairs already LOL. I love that excitement (we all do because we all know we love that anticipation in our girls) and love seeing her have that same excitement. All the training to get this plant here were her doing. I offered suggestions when she would try something but all this girls sexiness is from Ms Stank.....I claim no responsibility or credit LOL.

Harley got a drink of ACT with some Cal Mag and Silica. I know that she was transplanted before I re-amended the soil with calcium and minerals so I have to keep supplementing her with the Cal Mag. She will likely get one or two treatments of silica and then she will get cut off from it.

And here are the bonus shots for the week.....first up we have the two new worm totes for our vermi-composting. Right now, only the bottom one is up with dirt and scraps in it (waiting on worms). I will start the next bin here in another few weeks. They are 30 gallon totes. I have about 15 gallons of recycled soil in there with about a gallon of compost and some scrap. I have a big day of defoliating planned tomorrow so that will all be going in there.

And here are two shots of my Stankberry girl. I had her out to give her a big drink tonight and you can really see her structure nicely against the white wall. I am very interested to see how she will yield being this tall with this structure.

I like the clips to connect ties to. A creative mind can do a lot.

Oh they do...the farmers don't even care if you hunt them. Hell some of them are offering bounties on them down south. Destructive as hell. The biggest issue is that the hogs running around now have been bred with those crazy russian wild boars that are way bigger and way more aggressive. They breed so fast its damn near impossible to keep their numbers down.

Then of course you get the tree hugging liberals that are up in panties about farmers wanting to kill the boars. "They were there first". No they weren't....they were never native to that area and thats for a reason. But don't worry as soon as the numbers are so high across the country that all them libers will have their panties tied in a bundle because of the prices of all their specialty foods and once it affects their little slice of heaven they will be advocating for 'controlling their numbers' to manageable levels.
Lots of people here are against hunting. They are so narrow minded that they don't understand, it's conservation! Us hunters keep the critter population in order and it's paid for by liscense fees

Ah....I am a big BBQ guy. About to start the meat smoking season (if I can get the snow to stop.....been snowing all morning again). I tend to do mostly pork.....eventually I will get around to doing briskets as well. I love smoked chicken too.

There aren't any good BBQ places up here....so gotta do it yourself.

What do you smoke in? We would like to get into welding so I can start designing and making my own smokers instead of paying crazy prices for one. Hell maybe I can find a good welder and trade him a couple ounces of bud for a smoker! I got plenty of bud!

I have been using the same cheap horizontal smoker for about 5 years now. I figure I have another year or two and I will need to get a new one. Its really held up nicely....just a royal pain in the ass to keep the temps stable for extended periods. Rises and drops in relatively quick cycles so requires attention ever 45 minutes or every hour or so. I love to get a top notch smoker to use. Smoking meats while smoking buds.....sounds like a perfect summer brother!
BBQ is the best! I have a Web..r smokey mountain smoker. The temps stay nice and stable in that thing can find them and local department store reasonably priced. Pork is my fav to smoke. For ribs try the 3-2-1 method, your ribs will turn out perfect every time. 3 hrs unwrapped and sessoned 2hrs wrapped in foil and 1 hour unwrapped covered in your sauce.

yeah you gotta let chicken poop break down before you use it. About the only poop I know you can use right away is worm poop and rabbit poop (which is supposed to be one of the best as a fertilizer. Eventually when we get set up out in the mountains or wood (or better yet woods up on a mountain) I want to set up rabbits for food and fertilizer (their poop....not them...just in case anyone misunderstood that LOL). We will have chickens as well and we will use their poop in what will become out outdoor compost pile for the outdoor garden.

Sounds like a nice place you’re gonna have there Van :)

Do you what it is about rabbit poop that make it so good, and not hot. I’ve read about that before but haven’t found why. We have kangaroos here and I’ve wondered whether theirs is similar. So I’m curious if know any more about the rabbit poop!

:Namaste:

I won't start playing around with brisket until I get a good smoker (1/4" steel to hold the temps nice and steady) and can keep nice stable temps which is a must for brisket and beef in general.

You are absolutely correct, the pork can take the spikes in temps much better than beef. Damn now I am really hungry for some damn ribs!!

Funny you mention the smokey mountain. I have been looking at that as a temporary smoker until I can get a good one. For a cheaper smoker it is kick ass smoker! Just not ready to throw 4 bills at the bigger one yet. I figure one more season of the CHS (Cheap Horizontal Smoker).

I've been thinking about meat rabbits too. But my wife is not on board with that yet

Some people find it hard to kill a fluffy, cuddly, cute rabbit and eat it. I had a "macho" buddy up last year to try domestic rabbit for the first time. I thought he was going to lose it just seeing me humanely dispatch it. I have no rabbits here but do have access to rabbit manure (all I want) and eating rabbits when she is culling the herd.

People have no clue. Just like the idiots in Idaho that said "hey we need wolves back here.....lets go get them great big ones they have up in Canada and bring them down here".

How did that work out for the people of idaho, the cattle farmers, the farmers, and the wildlife that is getting killed at a faster rate than the hunters ever culled the population. Hell half of the wolves are killing just to kill and aren't even eating their kills. Its pretty bad when they realize they need to introduce a hunting season for the predator that they felt they needed there (despite the fact the wolves that are there now were NEVER native there). Dude they are killing wolves that are almost 170 lbs. Now to put that in perspective, an average adult German Sheppard is 80-90 lbs.

You are right brother, they are clueless. Good thing we have the government to keep us in check huh!!

Dont wanna start an argument or anything but why does the critter population need keeping in order? Surely mother nature can do a good enough job?. Btw im not against hunting. I enjoy hunting. But I eat everything I kill. the bones go to my dogs. The fur gets kept of course. Hunting for sport just to hang a head on your wall and laugh with ya friends about how many helpless ducks you filled with buckshot I dont agree with.

I have heard it has something to do with the digestive system of the rabbit with multiple stomachs. I read a couple articles about it but its been a year or so and I can't really remember the details. Essentially you can use it straight from the bums of bunnies with no risks of being too hot.

We both very much enjoy smoking salmon, brown trout, and those Jimmy Dean sausage rolls that you cut slices off of if you know what I mean. I just put some pork rub (not too much) on it and smoke it up.

Its called balance Bilbo. We humans screwed up the natural system. We lack predators anymore to keep other animals in check.

When you lack predators to cull the weak naturally, you end up with watered down and weak species that are susceptible to disease and other things that will hurt the species as whole. You lose the "only the strongest survive" and reproduce. Look at Maryland....they can't get rid of deer fast enough now. Hundreds and hundreds of the deer are causing major accidents where they used to rarely be any. When I left Maryland in 2011, I was able to hunt up to 16 deer per year and if I wanted to hunt on base, I could shoot an additional 8 deer. Just too many and there aren't bears or coyotes or cougars in sufficient numbers to keep things in balance.

It happens a non native species gets introduced into an area and it is never good. Hell look at the snake fish!!!

Yer I can see it from that point of view but then the main reason those predator numbers have dwindled is cos theyve been hunted for either sport or obviously the sake of human safety. The later clearly I am all for but im just making a general point. I do see that it has to be done but it doesn't change the fact its our fault. It sucks :( lol

I understand your point about sport hunters though I don't necessarily agree with it when its done right.

There is a ranch down in texas that grants people trophy hunts on exotic african animals. Sounds terrible right? Except for the fact that the ranch charges enough that they are able to breed and reintroduce more animals back into native territories in Africa (the area in texas I guess is similar to the area in africa) that their numbers are rising.

So they sell trophy hunts to support their conservation effort while increasing the numbers of wild animals in their native habitat. But the only thing you hear brought up is them selling 'trophy hunts'. Forget the fact that wild numbers of those species has increased directly from their efforts.

Now me personally, I have no desire to trophy hunt. But I fully embrace it when its managed correctly and leads to a better future for the species.

I know in upstate NY the winters can be brutal on the deer population. If left unchecked their numbers would increase and when winter hit there would not be enough to feed all the deer so the weaker animals would die slow, painful deaths.

If any State has a Fish and Wildlife Commission worth a darn they are able to determine how many deer there are and how many should be harvested to allow the population to not just survive, but to thrive.

I have heard people argue....well why don't they just raise the animals without having people come in there and hunt.....well the problem is that it costs a lot of money to pay people to run that ranch and treat all the animals to ensure their health and healthy reproduction. Those places don't run themselves.

My dad and grandfather were instrumental in getting the Michigan hunting laws changed back in the 50s and 60s. Back then it was Buck only hunting.

My grandfather used to be contracted by the state to go do surveys of dead deer after every winter up in the U.P. of Michigan. He argued with the state that the number of deaths was spiking due to starvation, and the number of strong healthy bucks was dropping because thats all people could hunt. Why not open a season to both doe and bucks.....it would reduce the numbers of starving animals and give the strongest bucks a better shot at strengthening the lines.

The state did some studies and agreed with him and changed their hunting laws.
