Stanks Go Perpetual In 2018!

Ok I understand a bit better now. But still there are many hunters out there who do things right. Get their kills, harvest their meat for the year and store it. If they get more they pass it on to friends or family. Even if you wanted to hunt a lot more you can find something to do with the meat.
Still wont agree with hunting for sport. Eating is part of the sport for me lol

There is a natural ebb and flow to the ecosystem even when left untouched by man. Good mouse season and fewer predators results in a high mouse population. The higher prey population then allows an increase in smaller predators. The predator population blooms which results in strain on the prey population. Decreasing food for predators. This cycle is always at play for many predator prey relationships.

When we remove a predator, or introduce one, we have to carefully monitor the impacts. Hunters in Canada and the USA are the only real conservationists we have to protect these ecosystems. Fees and licenses are what pays for the lions share of conservation. Not Hollywood stars or tweets.

If you think introducing a wolf to Idaho was bad...take a look at what introducing the Canadian beaver did to South America. Not good lol.

But I digress. Nice to pop into the Stank farm. Hope everyone is enjoying the Easter weekend

I understand what you mean. I hold that same view of sport hunting. Its not for me....at all. I have ZERO desire to shoot something that I don't eat or because its destroying a habitat (i.e. wild boars...but I am still gonna eat that SOB) But that doesn't mean it doesn't serve a purpose in creating a healthy and stable species if managed correctly

That ranch in Texas is raising and reproducing more than 30 species of animals that they raise and support and increase the native numbers with. They only allow 11 of the species to be trophy hunted. That means there are 19 other species that benefit from that program and who are showing positive signs of numbers increasing. While sport hunting isn't for me.....animals like the Black Rhino and many other endangered species are benefiting from these types of ranches/programs and in absence of anything more effective, I will support them as being necessary (but again not for me).

Hunters are generally the greatest conservationists despite the image main stream society likes to place on us. According to them we are all just blood thirsty killers who should just go get our meat the human way.....at the store! LOL

Hey UA....good to see you brother and well put!!

You got that right....those hollywood stars love to get on soap boxes but rarely ever do anything other than attempt to paint hunters in a bad light.

I will have to read up on that canadian beaver in South America. I know what beavers are capable of so I can only imagine the results!

My dad and grandfather were instrumental in getting the Michigan hunting laws changed back in the 50s and 60s. Back then it was Buck only hunting.

My grandfather used to be contracted by the state to go do surveys of dead deer after every winter up in the U.P. of Michigan. He argued with the state that the number of deaths was spiking due to starvation, and the number of strong healthy bucks was dropping because thats all people could hunt. Why not open a season to both doe and bucks.....it would reduce the numbers of starving animals and give the strongest bucks a better shot at strengthening the lines.

The state did some studies and agreed with him and changed their hunting laws.
Cool man he must have spent a lot of time out in it all. That's kinda my favorite part. the actual harvest is a split second, it's the 3 months of watching that's the majority of the time spent that's what does it for myself anyway.

I only hunt what I'm going to eat. I'm pushing 50 and have only one deer mount. The only time I dispatch a critter without using it is when it's causing damage to my property or my chickens. For me it's just part of life. I've always hunted and fished. When I'm in the woods hunting or looking for morels or on the water fishing I feel a sense peace. I think most of society is too domesticated. They are missing out on how awesome nature is

Amen there brother.....agree 100%. You got me by a couple years (closing in on 47). That post could cause me to go down a rabbit hole that I am not ready to go down on here! Lets just say we both see things very similarly and if I can get my back fixed, we intend to get back to those more primitive times and way of living.

I would much rather grow most of my food and hunt and fish my meat than work for someone else and give them money to get what I need. I was just born in the wrong time.

It's a good thing most of society is domesticated. I don't think nature could handle it of the 80% of the US population that lives in cities decided to foray into the wild!

Yeah, they spent essentially all their time outdoors. My grandfather (never met him....died a year before I was born) was a farmer, lumberjack, trapper, hunter for a living. If they didn't grow it or kill it, they didn't eat it....aside from bartered stuff.

Nope.....all them city folks need to stay in the cities! LOL

I don't want to deal with them moving out near me! I could do without about 80% of the population.

On a different note, I'm almost done with my flower room upgrades. I have some auto beans I'm going to start with. Got some sweet seeds dark cream and heavy weight fast and vast. I've only grown autos once. Hopefully it goes well
You have been working on that room for a while huh? Gonna feel good to get some plants going huh. The Jack Herer Auto I have going is the only auto I have ever done. Its been better than I thought for sure!!

I really like smoking baby back ribs and pork shoulder. Brisket is tricky. I end up wrapping it about halfway through to lock in the moisture.
I've had super good luck with brisket! Doesn't hurt I worked at a bbq joint for a bit. I always do 270-300f for 8 hrs MINIMUM (preferably10-12). Comes out perfect I I'd say. Fat side up of course!:drool:

Then you truly are the sort of man I am talking about. Peace and love

I have heard 250-275 degrees for a good brisket, but my issue is my smoker fluctuates too much for my liking. LOL...you should see me during smoking season. I sit down on the couch and then my beeper goes off telling me my smoker is getting too hot so I get up...go outside, attempt to lower the temps and come back inside to sit down. Then 10 minutes later the beeper goes off and I look and I am either too high or too low again.

Once I get it dialed in....I get about 45 min before I have to add more fuel to fire box and then repeat! With pork, it doesn't matter if my temps spike up to 325 for a little bit. But beef isn't as forgiving. Once I get the new smoker, and can stabilize my temps.....then briskets will be next for mastering!

I really think that most true hunters and outdoorsman feel the way we are talking about and really are Mother Nature's biggest advocate.

I think most educated hunters do, but there are quite a few really stupid hunters, at least here in my neck of the forest.

I'm no longer a hunter. I have no problem with people hunting if they have the perspective you have. My father hunts and I usually have venison. I love a good steak, and chicken. I'm a meatavore.

i agree 100% with you guys. i am not a hunter right now because i dont have the space to do it all myself. If i kill something, it will be put to use or consumed in one way or another. Im only 30 this year but feel way older... Been told i have an old soul... Born in the wrong era. goal is to get a farm way up north and be more or less self sufficient for us and our animals.

Lets face it, if the city folks left the city they wouldnt last two weeks... Look at those survival tv shows where they drop people in middle of nowhere... Most cant even catch a fish to save their life.

i love wolves, makes me sick that out in BC theyre culling thousands every year by flying around in helicopters shooting from the air. Yet talk to people from quebec or maritimes and theyve got moose populations out of control. Then theres the whole coyote issue in ontario... Massive packs 30-40 strong... Breeding with lone wolves or dogs, so theyre nasty like coyotes but the size of a wolf.... But they dont go after deer, just farm animals, pets and small game. it is an interesting world we live in.

thats really neat about that place in texas. Im gonna look into that. Not for hunting lol the idea itself is rather brilliant.

Wife and i have a few horses, we breed, raise, train, and you dont even want to know the amount of our feed bill.... Everytime a vegan(no offence meant, my brother doesnt eat meat at all) tries to argue with me i tell them to take the animals and pay to feed them and care for them and see how long they can afford it.
