Sqwheels' Garden - Bonsai Style

re: Sqwheels' Garden - Bonsai Style

Hey Mr. K,

How nice to see you...Thanks, they are looking pretty good, thanks to Corey and BPN

I had that thought at first but I use a pipett to draw up a measured amount so the nipple is just in the way. If my grows ever get big enough to require measuring spoons then I'll dig those nips back out. :)

Things are pretty good for the most part...will know more after some dr's appt. over the next few weeks. Thanks for asking.

Hope all is well with you and yours...sorry I'm so far behind on my subs I don't know what's going on with you currently...but I'm trying to catch up...I'll see you soon.

re: Sqwheels' Garden - Bonsai Style

Hi Folks :ciao:

Small update...I keep forgetting to thank our sponsors :thanks: :thanks: and all the 420 members who voted for my little Wonder Woman Bonsai potm June this year. You guys rock!!!

so far I've recieved ...

from SNS... some very useful stuff, 217 spider mite killer, 244 fungicide, 209 all natural pest control, 203 natural pesticide, 311 natural surface wash and 604 A&B supplements for vegging and flowering. They also included a 5% off coupon, but it expired on 6-30 ?? Maybe that's why I got extras...I'm pretty sure the supp's and surface wash weren't listed in the prizes.

and from BPN...because I already have the 3 part elite, Corey agreed to let me substitute his organic line...Thanks again!!! Will be trying coco/perl in the future, I think.

I'm sure the other stuff will show up soon... and I'll let y'all know when it does.

Sqwheels

I just read you have not been feeling well. I hope that is old news and you are now back on track. Your ladies are looking awesome!

re: Sqwheels' Garden - Bonsai Style

Plants are looking great Sqwheels, we are all waiting for cooler weather. I too have a bunch of catching up to do, about 2 weeks behind. Been building a cabin up north.

re: Sqwheels' Garden - Bonsai Style

Hi Sqwheels!

Don't know if I actually ever congratulated you on the POTM, but congrats if I didn't! She was a great looking plant, and got my vote. Great prizes, huh? All of the SNS stuff is good and very valuable. Very cool of Corey to sub the organic stuff! :yahoo:

I've recommended a few people to your thread who were asking about simple cloning methods or that were just curious about cloning without a fancy set-up or expensive "stuff". Sometimes I think they just can't believe it can be that simple and still effective. You're going to start a revolution!

Hope your dr's appointments are going well (or went well, whichever applies!). Either way, hope you are feeling well and having a great summer so far. :)

re: Sqwheels' Garden - Bonsai Style

quick thought here sq with the organics you prolly wont be able to use just pearlite, i gather you are gonna do coco, excellent! it will support organics i tested it myself but i would be sure you get some mykos and keep a healthy micro herd alive in the coco, you will love the taste of the organics, corey told me to mix in some of my 3 part elite into my organics and brew it with airstones in a 5 gallon bucket and take out what i need and just replenish water and nutes as needed,he says it makes more nutrients available right away to the plants, dont know if you wanna mess with all that mad scientist stuff but my plants seem real happy
hope your feeling good:thumb:

re: Sqwheels' Garden - Bonsai Style

Hi buckshot,

Thanks, they were looking pretty good...I let them dry out 1 extra day this week and I think it was a mistake. I won't do that again, watering every other day is necessary for these little 4" pots.

I can't say I'm back on track yet health wise...it's been a on/off kinda thing. More tests and dr's appt's next 2 weeks, hopefully they will know something from all that. Thanks for asking.

Hi OG,

I knew you were up to something...been kinda quiet lately.

Yep, I think I'm finally getting it, they look happy, considering the heat. It's funny...I've been a sun baby my whole life, love the warm weather...and I'm wishing for winter. It just doesn't compute.

Things will move really slow here for a while, not much to catch up on...I'll see ya in the journals, I've got weeks to catch up on too.

Good luck with that cabin...

Hi X,

Thanks so much, for the push and the vote...it was you and a few others who urged me to enter...I probably would not have done it on my own. and yes, the prizes are wonderful...very useful stuff. Ya I thought that was great of Corey too. He's so helpful and nice to work with.

I know you've sent a few members here for cloning ideas...they've said so, thanks. I really just want people to know how simple it can be, on a small scale anyway. There are drawbacks...I let one dry out, the fan I use in that room blew one out of it's cup and it died on the floor before I found it, you can't count on the timing as far as I've been able to tell...the BW top got roots in 8-9 days, and I have a clipping from that same plant...it took like 20 days. So... I don't know about a revolution. But if you're looking for simple, this works

I've decided I'm never going to actually catch up on all my subs, especially really long ones like yours...so if I butt in with an asked and answered question...please excuse my rudness. I just can't find the time to read every single word of them all anymore. Gonna have to start skimming and hope I don't miss any of the really important stuff.

Dr's still don't know anything...some tests were normal and some inconclusive...more tests and stuff next couple of weeks, then we'll see. Thanks for asking

Hope you and yours are well and happy, thanks for looking in

re: Sqwheels' Garden - Bonsai Style

Hi bid,

yep, kinda sounds like mad scientists stuff...I'm not a chemist by any stretch of the word. but with some practice/experiments I think I could get the hang...I'd like to try organics ... I'll have to come lurk your journal some and learn more...I don't know what mykos are ? :) and I don't have an airstone. I thought if you let mixed nutes sit too long it grew bad things...yes, lots to learn/consider. Thanks for the thoughts, I'll keep them in mind...probably pick your brain for other stuff too when the time comes. :)

pick away dear pick away! um if you aerate the solution it will grow good stuff, mykos mycoreazia (spelling) are beneficial bacteria and fungi needed to break down organic nutes to make them usable by the plants they live in the root zone and are what actually feed the plants, unlike chemical ferts that are instantly available, at wally you can get a pump and air stone very cheap, it really helps with organics ,,,i hate the dr/testing roller coaster ride i feel for you:thumb:

re: Sqwheels' Garden - Bonsai Style

Hey Sqwheels, I wanted to post up a picture here, It's a live update on my cloning, but it may be interesting to you. I took 28 cuttings on 7/28. 13 went in rapid rooter with clonex. 12 went in rockwool with clonex. 2 went in rockwool with only water. No hormones, no nutes. Just my well water.

This is one of the rockwool/h2o clones after 8 days. Both of them have rooted, and BETTER than the rockwool/clonex ones. The Rapid Rooter/Clonex blew away everything else with roots in 5-6 days.

EDIT: It may be important to note that I starved the mothers for 3 1/2 days prior to taking the cuttings.

re: Sqwheels' Garden - Bonsai Style

Hi Heirloom,

Great job...thanks for sharing. I have wondered if timing may have something to do with how quick they root...like you said about starving the moms first. I seem to remember reading somewhere when taking clones it should be after a while with no nutes. Don't remember how long without feed it recommended... truthfully I never pay attention to that, probably I should. Lately most of my clones are actually accidental breaks...the Blue Widow and Northern Lights do not bend as easily as the Wonder Woman. I've broken both a few times.

I've never used rockwool or rapid rooters, but have had good success with root riot cubes. Did you use a humidity dome with these?

re: Sqwheels' Garden - Bonsai Style

well done n your POTM squeels, damn i keep forgetting to vote. :( maybe have an entry of my own soon lol

re: Sqwheels' Garden - Bonsai Style

Yes, I used a dome. Rapid Rooters are the same as Root Riots as far as I know.

I don't know that there is a right time to take them. I looked for slight changes in color on the new growth, lighter green but not yellowing. It was 3 days for me, but I'm not pushing my girls in terms of nute strength.

re: Sqwheels' Garden - Bonsai Style

Hi shmokesome,

thank you...and welcome to my journal. Sometimes I forget until the very last day...but I try to vote every month. If you have a plant you really like...enter her, if I learned one thing...it takes all kinds, I really didn't think she would get as many votes as she did...I was so surprised and happy that our members liked her.

re: Sqwheels' Garden - Bonsai Style

heirloom,

the dome thing...the way I was cloning (in 2L's, using the lids as domes) it was kindof a pain, I wanted to get rid of it. That's why I just use a cup of water now. The root riots are kinda like a sponge...the thing I don't like is that in later growth they turn the perl/verm mix brown all around the cube. Makes me think they are leaching something into the medium.

I think it's great that you experimented with 3 different variables...I really just wanted to prove to myself that ya really don't need all the *stuff* in order to make clones.

Here's to our continued success...thanks again for sharing, we all learn this way.

re: Sqwheels' Garden - Bonsai Style

Hi Folks :ciao:

It's late but here's this weeks update, I was lazy about the pics this week...:sorry: I'll do better next week

I started thinking last week that I may be watering too often ... Wonder Woman showed signs of a little too much water. So I let the girls dry an extra day...I think it was good for the bigger pots, but the little ones suffered. Not sure if this is from being too dry or maybe a pH issue

but her canopy looks nice, no signs of a problem here
DSCN27392.JPG

while training to open her up some to the light, I found a split branch so I clipped it and put it in a cup of water
DSCN27472.JPG

in a couple weeks, I should have a new one to play with... this plant hasn't been right since I left them on the cable box too long when I popped them
DSCN27452.JPG

Small room vegging...my honey cut a new bigger board for the big room and I moved the little one into the other room. I like to keep the plants off the floor, it makes it easier for me and I feel like it cuts the chances of spiders, seeing how I'm using closets (one with the crawlspace door) and spiders love closets
DSCN27541.JPG

There is more space in the big room now, with a bigger board I can spread these girls out some

It's hard to tell from the above pic, but I went all Lizzy on Wonder Woman this week and chopped her good...before...all those tops got whacked

re: Sqwheels' Garden - Bonsai Style

Quick question, is BPN only for hydro systems or can it be used in soil? We don't get it in the UK but I'm sure I could get it some how if it really is as good as everyone says. :peace: Mark
