Spimps NLxBB Auto Micro CFL's 2013

CFLS+SOIL+SPIMP= extreme randomness. :):)

I also want to comment that in the last 3 years Autos have changed ALOT. Even the same strains like lowryder from back then are not the same as now. So I think we need updated research on these bad boys and lets forget the old addages from fairly unstable tiny autos of years past.

BTW, I liked that first pic so heres a couple more because I can. :)

congrats on the girl,

i dont think the other plant is a hermie, males pollen sacs dont have pistils growing out of them and they just look like green grapes growing at the nodes, hermies grow bananas out the buds and these will be bright yellow and look like a tiny banana,
the pollen sacs grow at the nodes and these are the grape looking things, as they develop they sort of have a weird shape to them with grooves running up the side of the grape and this is where they open and then the pollen is relaesed, so id say it looks fem to me.

just keep an eye on it, but looks ok to me.

some pics of male pollen sacs for you,

below is how some hermies can look, with both male and female pre flowers at the nodes

hope that helps

In the pics you added in post #2534 after my comment, I don't see any pollen sacs, just calyx's and pistils. I think you might be safe but still keep a very close eye on it just to be sure.

Good Weed sir. :ciao:

Both my un-femmed Photo plants, Gitmo (Bubba Kush) and Gizmo(GDP*) are showing some Hairs today. :):) And Blue mammoth#2 is getting stinky. :) I did some LST on the Veglings as well. Nothing too drastic since the are Autos. Just trying to get the lower branch sites more light exposure. CFL's have no penatrating power so x-mas tree shape doesnt seem too effiecnt to me. ;) Matter of fact, why I dont go take some pics and show you how it looks. :)

Hi Spimp,

thats the problem with cfls, my first journal was with cfls, i mean you can get good yields i was hitting 2oz plus per plant, i think my biggest yield was 3oz but the plant had a nice even canopy and i used lst to keep everything even, then cfls work fine.

the reason i switched to hps was because i was using around 400watts with cfls, i was running a load of 23 and 30watt cfls and had wires running all over the place, i built an 8 light rig above the plants so i could get as much light reflected on the plants, then i used them clip on light holders to mount lights around the sides of the plants, penetration as im sure you know is around 2 inches with a cfl.

if anyone has got cfls then try this yourself, put your hand against the bulb then slowly lower your hand away, then notice that when you get 2 inches from the bulb the light levels drastically drop off and after 4 inches id say your getting less than half the light.

but then i use cfls around the home and my living room has just 1 cfl and it lights up the whole room.

cfls give off a great spectrum that the plants really seem to like, plants have real close node spacing and i produced some dense buds using a mixture of 2700k and 6400k cfls for both veg and flower, but as i was running around 400 actual watts with cfls it made sense to switch to hps as it would cost me the same to run,

my hid light was £65 of the auction site, i think postage was included if i remember right and when it turned up it came with a dual spectrum bulb which was a couple of years ago now and ive never replaced the bulb, when my results start getting less than previous grows then ill change the bulb, but so far the lights working great.

so cfls do work but you need a lot of them or grow a scrog and just have the lights above the plant, for autos you need good side lighting and makes sure the cfls are above the branches so the plant is still growing upwards, any lights below the leaves will just make the plant grow towards them lights and restrict upwards growth.

so if i was going back to cfls or if my hid blew up and i didnt have cash to replace it then id go with a scrog or some very heavy lst. you could probably lst autos to some extent but you would have to start very early on in the plants life so you are not causing to mush stress, you could train an auto to a scrog as well but the auto would need to veg for a while which is what my goal is with the auto im producing at the minute, i statrted with a 56 day auto and now its getting on 85 plus days, so hopefully ill get this auto strain sorted and produce a long growing auto that yields well.

ill tell you what ill try, when i harvest this kc45 auto ill set up a cfl room and grow 1 auto under cfls and see how it does.

@Spimp, let me know how many autos your using and what the watts are then ill set up a grow space with the same lights and try one of my autos then i can see what your dealing with and what we can do to try and achieve better results, i dont mind running a few grows with cfls if its going to give you some data which you can use in your own grow.

so let me know then tomorrow ill set up a cfl room with the same lights your using if possible then ill plant a couple of autos and see how mine perform under similar conditions, then i can try and tweak different things until we find something that works and produces well.

im more than happ to do that if it helps you with your quest to get better results, plus id like to try another cfl to see how it compares to the hid, currently ive got plants vegging under just 2 cfls, ive got about 4 clones, 2 clones that are rooted and in bigger pots and another 2 plants in small pots, all of these are growing under just 2 cfls, 1x 6400k 30watt and 1x 2700k 30watt cfl, mine are doing ok and im happy with the results.

just taking the dog a walk then ill take some pics of my cfl seedling and clone room and you can see how mine are doing under just 2 cfls,

if this then gives you something to work with or something that you can do in your grow to help achieve the maximum from your lights then im willing to get a cfl room set up and veg and flower under it and we can then compare results and try different things.

That sounds like a very interesting and fun idea. It will provide some data points since we could use the same nutes and maybe you could throw in a dwc auto so we could dial this thing in even more for the future. :high-five:

Im running 12- 26w CFLS. All above, no sidelighting (yet) Currently 6- 2700k, 4 -6500k and 2- 5000k Im pretty sure. Because I have a single tall plant that got away from me, I have my lights 3 inches from her and about 7-9 inches from the others with the Ghetto reflector. We can talk more about it because Im interested in maximizing CFL data and auto research for sure.
I am gonna post some Pics now as I musnt keep Rico waiting. :)

Here is the Smallest Auto, a Trans Siberian. She did not have the root transplant into perlite after the overwatering.

This is a Blue Mammoth that I DID transplant into perlite for a few weeks:

Here is the Bubba Kush aka Gitmo that grew a foot in 4 days after I saved her from the overwatering. I thought she was a Hermie at first :wood::
