SOGgy Daze Ahead For Mr. Krip!

PIC UPDATE

It's been six days of 12/12 for the first set of SOG plants, and after the feeding yesterday, it seems they all grew about another 2" each and were all looking very happy and perky this morning with their leaves pointing up:

You can see how big they're getting, now ranging between around 6"-8" or so:

Here's the one Power Skunk currently in the tent:

She's got huge leaves with a full canopy:

And, she's stacked! :) Check out these nodes:

And, her canopy:

I have to admit, I love seeing the TK nice & full! :yahoo::

DSCN11083.JPG

But, since all the clones, except the two Power Skunks, are realtively new, they're the only two showing roots, so far.

Here's the first PS:

And, here's the second. You can see how much more roots there are even since the pic from yesterday:

The next round of five clones should be ready to go into the flower tent by next weekend, bringing the total to 12 in flower.

Then, hopefully two weeks later, I'll add another 12 clones from the TK, filling out the 24-plant total.

Happy Harvests!

Nice spikes! :thumb:

That is about as far along as I let mine go before I put them into soil. I find that they do better than if you wait until they develop more tendrils in the cloner. The spikes are robust enough that they show no signs of transplant shock or other transitional maladies as compared to trying to transplant clones that have long complex root balls.

You might want to try it yourself and compare. You'll see what I mean in about a week. The root spike only clones will get growing much faster. :)

Actually, the four I have in the "Halloween" hempys now were transplanted when they just had spikes from the cloner.

But, I'm not really going to be doing that at all with this SOG, primarily due to space and the fact that it doesn't make much sense to transplant them twice in two weeks.

I don't have room on the veg side of a bunch of clones in 2L's, in addition to the mom's. And, if I put them in smaller hempys, I'd just be moving them to the 2L's in another week.

But, going right from the cloner to 12/12 in the tent works out perfectly for the larger number of plants with no veg time.

Plus, I have a little theory...I believe there's less of an adjustment going from the cloner (hydro) to hempy (hydro) than their would be going from the cloner to soil, so I don't believe growth will be delayed much, if at all, in this 12/12 from clone method.

i think goose meant to go ahead an stick em in the 2L's once they r spikey. he uses soil, so in ur case straight to per/ver mix. this actually drastically eliminates alot of transplant issues. less transplanting is best. i plant seeds directly in 30 gal pots all the time, BIG difference in those and the ones vegged inside then transplanted. only disadvantage you would have is if you didnt have any room in the 2L's and had to temporarily stick them in something til bottles were available . which if i didn't read careful enough you may have stated already.....daggum Quasar.....u should try sometime, good smoke

YES, YES, YES, AND YES!!! :thumb:

Yes, that's what GG7 was saying; and yes, that's what I said (no space for 2L's in veg and no sense in transplanting twice); and yes, you didn't read carefully; and yes, I need to try some of that Quasar!!! :grinjoint:

+REPS for good Quasar and for being a "Glorious Beacon of Light" !!! :bravo:

P.S. I hope you're smiling, cuz' that was all said with good intentions! :)

Looking real good Mr.K I really need to get myself a cloner. I like rockwool cause its easy to manage and they stay wet for a long time but its really a guessing game. I don't know if my clones have rooted yet or anything. They are still green after a week so Im guessing they are and they have been out from under the humidty dome for a 4 days now.

Since you can check root development everyday,it takes the guess work out. All I need now is more space...oh yeah and money.:lot-o-toke:

Ooooo anew grow from Mr. K? Why am i just discovering this now. I mean i saw the preview in your last journal but didnt even know this had started. Cant wait to see how your SOG develops. Switch early!

Nevermind lol. But everythings lookin picture perfect. Ses like theres been a 2liter craze lately. Maybe ill have to get in on this action sometime. How do you like the tent so far? You losing much space due to tent suck?

TOG, I agree 100%! My original plans were to clone in rockwool, but I'm VERY happy I picked up the cloner.

As long as your clones haven't wilted, they're probably fine. It's normal to start seeing a lower leaf or two turning yellow as the cutting uses up some stored nutes. In about 10-14 days, you'll see roots coming out of the cube.

Thanks, Beans! Glad you made it!

There's definately a BIG 2L craze going around. Seems like 420fied has become quite the cult leader! :adore:

I'm loving the new tent and I really don't lose that much, at all, to tent suck. Probably because it's only a 2'x4'. On the 2' side I don't lose anything noticeable. On the front/back (4' sides) I lose maybe an inch or two on each side max at the "narrowest" point. doesn't appear to be enough to cause any interference with 24 plants, but we'll see!

QUICK PIC UPDATE - BONSAI MOM'S IN TRAINING

Happy weekend everyone! :yahoo:

I thought I'd show a some quick pics of two of the Bonsai moms-to-be and the difference in their training.

I just gave an update on Lucy, who, so far, has only received a UBT for four colas.

On the Power Skunk, I UBT'd for four colas, but then topped the two top colas to get six tops. I've been showing pics of her tops, but said I needed to show her branch structure. Well, here it is:

DSCN11123.JPG

I trimmed out the center to get more light and air circulation just two nights ago, and I can already see some new shoots starting to form.

And, the PE clone that got the "extreme LST" is also showing 6-7 tops, although, they are at different heights & development while the tops on the Power Skunk are all very even.

Here's the tops on the PE with the LST:

DSCN11132.JPG

And, here's her branch formation:

DSCN11143.JPG

I really like the symmetry created on the topped Power Skunk, but I also like the "natural" look of the LST. It's still too early to tell which will be more productive as a Bonsai mom.

One last thing I thought I'd talk about briefly, and that's what I've been calling "Bonsai Trimming". I pretty much made up the expression (although, it may be an actual term!) to describe how I learned to prune a Bonsai.

The truth is, I don't even know that this is a good way to trim a Bonsai, but it seems to be working well for me.

Also, this is not pruning to maintain a small size, it's really pruning to train the growth, and would probably be best served with video, or at least pics, but I'll see if I can describe it and maybe post some pics when I do some trimming.

So, here's the deal...

Basically, where two branches are growing next to each other, I trim the growth on the sides of the branches that are facing each other.

So, if the plant forms a "Y", the growth on the inside of the "Y" gets removed. This increases air circulation and opens up much more of the plant, and many more bud sites, to light.

You may be able to tell that I've trimmed leaves this way on both the Power Skunk and the PE.

Happy Harvests!

QUICK UPDATE - 1 WEEK OF 12/12 AND WE HAVE PISTILS! :yahoo:

The girls in the tent just finished their first week of 12/12 and virtually all of them are now starting to show some pistils.

Here's a couple of the PE's:

Eight more weeks to go!

Happy Harvests!

Hey Mr. K. I Read your exhaust fan is 440cfm. Do you have a dimmer on it? Just a suggestion but you could benefit in a few ways from having one. Seeing as you tent is 2x4x5 it only has 40 cubic ft. You could bring it down to 150cfm and save a tad on electricity and lower the sound level. The best saving would be that lowering the cfm down to 150 you could double or even triple the life of your carbon filter. And we all know how expensive those can be. You will also benefit from a slightly longer life of the cloth prefilter as well. Just a tip from a fellow member of the growing green commitee!
