Sprouts update most are 4 " or greater . The Sour D and Nigerian Beaches are over 12" tall , i sprouted them the earliest. Sorted the failed sprout cups and weak from the mix and moved the next round of contestants to Stage 2, my bakers rack on a cement slab, wrapped by a light tarp . I have treated them with a much reduced dose of neem and soil drenched with SNS 203. They have been there for three days and love it. One of the reasons I moved them was the white flies. Another is a lesson leaned from last year. Early on too much sun dried them out too fast . They were spending all their energy getting water to their leaves to keep cool and none growing. This slowed their growth considerably. This year , pole bean shade, weed barriers and mulch will keep my ladies happy, and my water bill low. No white flies , aphids ants, or mites soil stays wet for three days, I water tomorrow with diluted (1/4 strength) BPN 2 Part.
On the subject of the failed sprout cups. Why they failed or even that they failed is important to me in one regard. I want hardy bitches!! The weak die and the strong survive, that's nature doing her thing. I let her do what she wants, not like i could change her mind, so I just work with her. Its better that way.
Back to the cups. I used soil from my back yard, sifted to remove roots and rocks. Its the tiny seeds that I missed. now I have hella different, plants ready to go into my garden, for free. I have been watching the same ones row in the ground and have identified the ones I want to keep. I did have to pull them from the cups o keepers. I love it when nature and I get along.
