Yesterday's SOIL update:
Finally got my next batch of soil cooking up!! We've been intending to use this same mix for all our veggies and herbs and things as well, so now that I'm starting to get the recipe dialed in, I went for the biggest batch yet!! Latest mix is:
Base:
-125L compost/worm castings
-100L canna professional (peat mix)
-50L rice hulls
-25L canna pro plus (coir)
-15L Biochar (might add 15-20L)
-10L perlite
-15L dehydrated worm castings pellets
Amendments:
-240g alfalfa meal
-1050g Azomite
-600g coconut meal
-600g crustacean blend
-250g Diatomaceous Earth
-1500g dolomite lime
-600g high-phos guano
-1000g gypsum
-1100g kelp meal
-850g malted barley
-1200g neem meal
-1000g palagonite
-80g potash
-500g soybean meal
-1000g soft rock phosphate
-1000g volcanic rock dust
Aiming for a very mineralised soil to give it long-term fertility, and a little more coconut meal and some potash this time to try and ensure that potassium isn't a problem like it has been. The application rates of the potash seemed comically small for the amount of total soil volume, but i didn't want to go overboard in case it's ridiculously potent or something like that...
But it's a reeeally good texture, so i watered in some humiboosta to kick it off, and those dehydrated worm pellets should have some eggs in there that'll hatch once they get rehydrated enough! In the next few weeks, we should have a nice active cook going!
Bonus cat pic, because he wouldn't stop yelling at me while I was trying to do soil stuff (we set up a kitty net so they can hang out with us outside while we are in the back, and they love it!!)
