OK - Time to get my feet wet !!!!!!! Here is my first attempt at Sippy Swicky!!! These poor little characters are just surviving - light from a windowsill and started out real chilly at night - I'll put them in a more secure situation today.
This setup is tippy and I need to block the light from the roots. I would move to solo's but I don't think the roots are in good enough shape to survive the transfer. These little guys were just to see if the seeds would germinate.

So my little experiment with a SIP planter has mostly concluded, and I just wanted to jump in and say thanks for this thread! I've been lurking along, but its a bit too busy for me to keep up most of the time.

It was super easy to manage a SIP grow and it looks like it will produce some quality bud at a greater quantity than I've been able to get so far from this strain. I just did the chop today, so the full results aren't in quite yet. My quad-lining technique still has some way to go too, this plant came out a little tall, but I'm getting better at training the plants this way. Here is a progress pic:

All I really did new here was SIP, everything was about the same as my previous grows. I will be putting another seed into the SIP pot soon and can't wait to see how that one goes. Maybe more SIPs too, we will see! These things really work great!

Thanks for the report, C-Man! Sounds like another happy customer. Growing in these things is really fun, and I've had much bigger plants and therefore larger harvests with them as well.

And let's not call this a "little experiment" but rather a "way of life." I know I'll likely never go back to growing with my old ways.

guess who went overboard with mosquito bits down the res feeder pipe and now dipstick doesn’t reach bottom?? Had hoped the holes I drilled were large enough but no dice.

shitake mushrooms but lesson learned… cut a bigger slot in feeder pipe on version 2.0 SIP bucket.
Wet vac real fast right up the tube???

Thanks for the feedback Cman! Nice work! How did you feed?

@Carcass where did you source the ATF seeds?
Sorry, @sqrtal - but I don't know- the seeds were sent to me by a generous forum member about a year ago,
and I didn't ask where she got them..:hmmmm:
I know I'll likely never go back to growing with my old ways.
I can't see myself going back ,either- SIPs are just so easy, and they work so well, it'd be a big step backward
to return to the way I used to do it..

Thanks! Just used my standard flowering feed (Botanicare) and pretty much kept the SIP topped up most of the time. I had to top feed in veg because the veg feed I use doesn't stay mixed with the water very well.

The roots came out the bottom of the bucket but self-pruned right at the top of the water level and thickened up. Pretty neat.

Hahaha but "that's how its always been done"!

Hey Baby Trees, welcome to #SIP club!

The size/height of the connector cup will depend on the distance between the bottoms of the two buckets. You want something tall enough to bridge the entire distance. It's ok if it's too tall as it can extend higher up in the upper bucket.

Whatever you use for that connector cup will have soil pretty well packed down in it so not much will wash out.

Hydroton will function differently from soil but that may only matter if you grow organically. Otherwise either will serve the same function, namely wicking water from the bottom bucket up into the upper one, as well as providing a foothold for the roots that want to explore the reservoir area.
You cant get capillary action with hydroton, too big. It works a little, but poorly. I've run a lot of tests on hydroton in SIPs. Needs to be soil or similar. Sorry I'm so late here, been preoccupied.

@Carcass I've been meaning to ask something, but first: Mate, your Cannabis-Diorama grow is sooooo intriguing. A little grow-world all its own. Love. It.

Carcass, is that a heat/rh sensor hanging back left and is that a little empty fruit cup on there to protect the sensor from being dazzled by the lights, fans? I've been wondering about mine and whether I should do the same. Any info on your experiences that relate would be interesting.

Those plants def look what I call, "SIP-healthy''. Noice.

Here’s what’s growin on w/ ReservoirDog… I tried a scrog on this ratty, nasty gg#4 that used to be a mother plant. Worked alright. BTW, both tents are 5x5, w/1kw leds (lm301h). Just one big SIP in each tent this run as I decided to put these mothers down - but only after flowering them 3 weeks apart.

This next big girl in tent #2 will be flipped this week, I’m using those cans for constant weight training and it’s awesome as you can change the weight as your needs change. I put pea gravel in ‘em. She stretches corner to corner in the 5x5 and should produce decently for a tired old mother plant under a 1kw led. Both large SIPs are running air pumps/stones on timers pulsing 15 minutes every hour. So far, so pH stable. I feed m.crop 2 part @ 1.0 EC (150ppm N) I grow lots of organic too… I’m just not too fussy, and love experimenting.

Just a little gear-porn here for those who take part. I really love this setup. It can always be better but I’m grooving on this.

Here, finally, are the seedlings now two weeks old and in their various baby-SIPs (Non-CBD Cherry Blossom and Yumboldt Auto). I am generally not into autos - yet - but I had these seeds and wanted to demonstrate a couple of seedling SIPs designs for the 420 peeps so... Plants are in 1 part custom w. castings (worms are fed only accumulator plants, fresh kelp and mushroom compost from my myco-grows) 1 part peat, 1 part perlite. Must-have 1/3 perlite in SIPs, IMO. I’ve also got some clones rooting out in some SIPs in the same space… 3weeks in and so far so good with the clone SIPs. I use some gibberolic acid, crushed aspirin and seaweed juice on them plus there’s a lot of myco mixed in, otherwise just plain Promix (peat/perlite) for the cuttings. Everybody gets a recharge of microbes via root drench once a week.

Exactly! (mainly the light)
and the 2 little white boxes hanging on the wall are sending units for remote thermometers...
Any info on your experiences that relate would be interesting.
The sensor runs about 3 degrees warmer without the fruit cup- I can't feel the heat from the light at that distance, but the sensor can....not really a big deal, but I try and keep the temp readings fairly accurate...

Looks a comprehensive setup RD!
It sure does... all my electronics are powered by AAA batteries... 😁

While I'm here, howz about a few quick pics of my little SIP project?

Here they are 9 days ago...ATF on the left, @ 22 days in the SIP, AH on the right@ 9 days in theSIP
1-ATF-AHa-1-9 days ago.jpg

And here they are today- I swapped sides-AH, left- 40 days old, 18 days in the SIP- ATF, right...54 days old, 31 in the SIP-

The bigger one (8 "tall) is going to be flipped to 12/12 on Saturday...
The smaller (7"tall) one, which turned out to not be an auto, will get flipped soon too- but from Saturday on, she'll spend her days outside, and her nights in the broom closet...

I'm loving the SIPs, and so are the plants...

And that's about it for today!
Thanks for looking...💚

Gear porn indeed! Love it!

Here is Emmy, my Green Crack Auto in the @VIVOSUN Smart Grow System with 100w AeroLight. She was started in a 4" pot for 13 days. I bottom watered her twice in the 4" pot then up-potted to a 5 gallon bucket with a GroBucket insert on day# 16. The bucket has FFHF pre-amended with @GeoFlora Nutrients veg and @DYNOMYCO , used on the rootball as well. I top-watered her when I uppotted to integrate the rootball, but all other feedings have been in the res. The top dressing of river rocks seems to keep the soil moist all the way to the surface.

She was topped on Day# 18 and I used CarHooks to LST her. Since flower she's been on @Remo Nutrients . She's up to 1.8L/day now and is still growing. You can see that once her roots got established in the SIP she really took off!
