Wow, everybody's shit looks tight!

As for top watering, it's totally fine, however, in the early seedling days you want the plant to know that survival means it needs to send a nice taproot downward, and topwatering can slow this process.

Manures in the mix are ok if the animal is that shat it is no larger than an earthworm, is my rule of thumb for SIPs and its coming from experienced organic SIPpers. I'm running a 1 part wormcastings 1 part peat, 1 part perlite SIP right now and have done in the past and it works well but they are my own very customized castings. I don't think storebought would get through flower alone, but I could be wrong.

Promix off the shelf is about 70/30 peat/perlite. So I add extra perlite to make it 50/50, then add half of that total volume in worm castings, resulting in three equal parts (by volume) of each. Remember though, I'm using a lime-buffered peat/perlite mix (Promix, Sunshine Mix #4), so just adding raw, unbuffered peat, and your own perlite and castings, wont get you the same result. You need the buffering of the lime in the finished peat products, though you can go DIY on that too but I can't instruct you there.

These plants are in DIY 27gal tote SIPs, rez is 6gal. I drop 2, 10 gallon square Geopots in the SIPs and this keeps from being over wet and I have 10gal of soil for each plant so I can go organic. I use precut black plastic laid on the soil top for organics so I draw roots up to the top as I will amend by laying pure castings on top before flip and after. I’m also using an airstone in the rez for organic grows just to make sure nothing anaerobic starts forming in the rez, not worried about dissolved oxygen levels otherwise. Really like this method. Yeah plants are close to each other but simple training keeps things civil. Sauga- view

Co2 bags can be pretty helpful, try to mount them as high in the tent as you can as not only does the co2 fall down but the warmer temps generates more co2. It's just mushroom farming 101. Over 84 deg F might be pushing it, however. Follow the bag's instructions. It is a supplementary product, and approx. doubles your background cO2 which does benefit and does not require, or benefit from, hardcore light values. It does help the plant, however. In the pics below you'll see I'm offgassing my fresh wines in the tent for the plants benefit. Same deal. (I cover them from the lights, they're uncovered for the photo only.

Because nobody asked, wines from (back) left to right are: Runtz Cannabis/Blackberry/Grape, Grape/Blackberry, Plum, Grape.

My grapes are your garden variety French-American red wine grape. I grow 'em very non-traditionally, given I only have three vines but harvest between 300-400lbs. I have them running here, and there, all over the damn place. I really balance the visual/shade/edible aspects. I'm not all uptight about winemaking, and really love having the plants wrapping around the house creating shade zones and keeping my indoor temps low. I hit them with some Green Leaf Sweet Candy a couple times each year, and that's it. I don't even water them in the summer.

I put about 4 ounces of dried Runtz buds (saved up larfy stuff from a couple grows) in the 6 Imperial gallons of fresh fruit blackberry/grape wine ''must'' right from the start, (I do separate weed and fruits by putting in perforated bags) then add enough dissolved sugar water to get my abv up to 1.05-1.10, throw my yeast (Red Star Premiere Classique) and let the heat of fermentation decarb the bud. That said, my fermentation lab gets the heat turned up above 75 and I put a heating pad under it for a couple days, making sure it never gets TOO warm (80). Finished product is a faint, spicy, cannabis finish, and the buzz is exceptional.

You could do the same with frozen fruit or frozen fruit juice concentrate. Even just fruit juice. Check out youtube for fermentation help, this stuff is really easy, so be not afraid.

I've been making wine for years and never once have I thought about putting it in my room for the CO2. That's a really good idea for CO2 off gassing 💚

Do you have a thread with a jungle list of supplies for a quick upstart kill 2 birds with one stoned would be great

Okay I'm not real big on doing journals but I have completed one and getting ready to finish another.
I'm not going to be doing a journal for this run but I did a thing today.
This is my first attempt at SIP so I'll hit you with a pic every once in awhile.
What I have growing on is a Trailer Trash F1 photo, I was gifted a couple dozen beans of this strain and this is the first time running any of them.
It just went in the soil this morning and I went directly into the SIP with her after an overnight soak and a little time in the baggie to get her to pop her shell.
When I put the soil in the SIP I wet it in layers going from the bottom I made each layer dryer than the soil below. I don't know how things are going to turn out but I've never been afraid to fall flat on my face.
For soil I'm using homemade Bokashi soil, you can see how I made it in my Runtz X Afghani and a little Bokashi soil journal and my plant food is the Bokashi pre-compost extract from the pre-compost bucket. Once she's big enough I'll put the first stage net on and start laying her out.
Other than that it's time to do this SIP and see how it goes, if all goes well I'll probably make another SIP or two.
Time to play the game 💚

Watching the video on amazon I see soil does see the water all around the perimeter of the insert. Check the vid out.
Thanks, with the inserts in hand I can see they taper on the sides and have ridges on the bottom so water in the resivoir will equal out on the sides and then be in contact with the substrate to wick up...Very nice design...took me a bit to figure out what was making contact where from pictures before getting in my hands.:thumb:

Day 63

Different strains but the hempy is keeping up to the SIP's :yahoo:

So much so the Wedding Cheesecake (front right) had almost a dozen branches super cropped o_O

Out of the whole grow I removed THREE yellow leaves today !

Pretty sure I've lost another three or four from the start ;) Aside from lollipopping...

In fabric bags I was doing this to almost EVERY plant every couple days or so...

I like that design a lot! When I want a smaller than 10 gallon SIP I may go with it.

Just got one of those co2 bags is that how theyre supposed to be set up?
As mentioned put them up above the plant if possible - they take about two weeks to hit peak release so a week before flower and week after - then add a bit more. If you’re getting above say 900ppm Co2 start allowing a little more heat and light to them or its wasted. Over 1400 probably too its a waste.
I'm a SIP'n fool!
🤣 I doubt your anyones fool Stone!

That is an absolutely deadly-awesome SIP setup. Yup, you did a thing! I have an even bigger version of that box-type that I've been eyeing up for months. Damn thing must be at least 35 gallons.

Very clever work with the tinker-toys, btw. I've found nothing wrong with letting air pass through my fill tube, across the surface of the reservoir and out the drain hole/pipe. But, you have to drill some holes in the fill pipe right at 'air-gap' level and below (reservoir level likely will fluctuate).

I'm not into doing journals either, just out of time and energy commitments, but I love having this thread to drop bombs on and to keep up with y'alls genius SIP applications. So thanks for this, most appreciated.

Gonna go check out your bokashi show, mate, hopefully get some feedback from you on a couple questions I have. Looks to me like your forum name is well-deserved. Your shit's ''on-fleek', as @Trala would say. Precious Trala.

PS Trala, I have a big owie and I was wondering if you'd consider moving to Victoria, BC, Canada to work at my hospital and be my nurse. No, really:kiss::nervous-guy:

I would be more than happy to answer any questions I can but I have to warn you up front..
I'm fairly new to all this growing stuff and I don't know much. And as far as the Bokashi soil I make, I learned the process over on Bokashi living.
I'm glad you are finding something useful in my work and if possible I will be happy to help you along.

Hey folks everything looks so simple until u try it something is terribly wrong with my trellis set up and i have a bunch of dongles and acinfinity gizmos i cant figure out to try to automate everything…..also should i stick the co2 bag on top of the light or will that trap the flow

One thing I do know its not good practice to sit anything on the light fitting it could create a hot spot causing a fire or shorten the life of your light that is trying to dissipate the heat .
Plant is looking good otherwise 👍😊

Get rid of the hooks in the loops, put them straight into the corners of the net so you pull the net tight.
Making a frame around it could help, or use zip ties on one side so you can tighten it up.

As for the dongle stuff ask somewhere specific to set it up? In your thread, or in the grow room/tent setup section
Get some zip ties anyways and tighten up the cables in the room, get the light a couple of cm's off the wall and have nothing touching it.. now it's got cables on it, under it, squishing them against the sides, nothing touches the light is the easiest & safest rule.

Get the Co2 off the light asap. Its big enough on the floor will likely do - raised on a box.

In my personal experience you gotta learn with your eyes before you know how to use the automated stuff. Otherwise you don’t know where your going.

I mean.. for setting the humidity and temp of the tent and getting the plants moving with ventilators I feel it's quite alright to get that out of the way with automation early on. Dunno what else he's trying to automate..
