guess once res is full itll wick more to the top?
Yes, it will wick higher up but that may be more than your plant wants just yet. The soil will have a moisture gradient to it, wetter at the bottom less so higher up, but the roots don't need to reach the reservoir to benefit.

Hi all! Ive officially started my first grow journal check it out if you can starting from day 1:Namaste:
Awesome! I'll be right over. :thumb:

And welcome to The Club!

Although they say that Dirt doesn't require PHing, I've found that if my nutrients are too far away from 6-6.5 in a SIP, it'll start causing issues.
That's something worth checking out on my end. I've always used FFOF soil and have never had any pH issues, but this is the first time using it in a SIP, so that might be something. :thanks:
Prescription Blend was spectacular in that it always self-buffered, but other nutrient packages I use end up around 4.2 - this caused lockouts. A few drops of Ph-down righted the ship and got me green again.
I am indeed using Prescription Blend on this grow, but I'll check the pH just to make sure.
Mine seem to shift down a few gears as well in flower so I just give them what they'll drink in a day or so.
Thanks for the reassurance, Azi! :thanks:

Hello SIP club, I would like to show you my new bucket prototype for my hulk, I used medicine boxes for it, so there is enough clay and it has a reservoir for about 6 liters of water, I don't know exactly yet, but I need advice on whether I should make more holes into the floor so that more air can go there or is the wick I have enough? What do you think @Azimuth and everyone with the club thanks for the tipi. 😉 And this is what it looks like.

Neat looking!

Do you mean more holes here?

If so - I would. I like the idea of other effects like evaporation driving water up evenly through the medium.

Holes in the medium section sides too. My soon to be filled SIP is getting those too.

This is what the top bucket in my 4 gallon mop bucket SIP looks like- I've done 2 grows in it, and it works great!
Surprisingly, very few roots will grow through those holes..
I didn't put any holes in the sides, because I didn't think of it till after there was a plant in there- but
when I clean it up after the current plant gets harvested, I plan on adding some holes to the sides also.

Probably not as many as in the bottom...but quite a few..👍

apologies for my off-topicness... I won't drag it out...

Can anyone tell me what the max PPM for a foliar oughtta be? Or the sweetspot, or even just the range? I'm using kelp and leonardite humates @ ratio 2:5, FYI. I'm getting conflicting opinions in the 'real' world. Keep on rockin' in the free world, brothers, sisters and all y'all.

Hey Kanno, Nick and Carcass have you covered. More holes in the base allows excess water to drain and more air to reach the lower roots.

You all know by now that I think it's the air to the lower roots that is the real magic behind the performance of SIPs, so the more the merrier as long as you don't compromise the integrity of the floor to hold up the soil.

The strongest foliars I use are at 20:1, although most are at 100:1 (even though knf calls for 500:1)
Foliar feeding is a highway to the soul, you gotta tread lightly.

Since I'm talking alot today, do you have one of these???
An electric flyswatter!
The satisfying POP when it frys a mother lovin fungus gnat is so good it should come with a government tax. I have like 50 vegetable seedlings in my plant room and I rustle the leaves with the swatter, pow-zap-pop. No more flyers. It's the damn best.

Cross posted from my journal but something to think about..

............................................

I think we are Finally off to the races :yahoo:

Comments are on 24 hours of growth....

First off I have to say I'm Loving knowing my girls have just the right amount of water all the time

No more lifting pots, he, he..

Best I can tell we are a good week behind my last auto grow. All different strains but.....

The only difference I can think of is using SIP solo cups ?

Aside from wetting the medium before planting the germinated seeds they were never watered from the top.

At transplant they did have roots circling the bottom but next to nothing from the middle of the cup to the top. Pretty well a cone of roots at the bottom of the cup.

Was that not the target ? Developing the "water" roots early ?

I did not keep the reservoirs full daily but didn't wait until they fully dry, maybe 25%..

Thoughts ?

The first CBD Lemon seed could have been in too moist medium, hadn't had time to drain enough yet. I watered the solo cup to drain at transplant. Usually do that a day before...

The second seed was in a properly moistened medium and is at least alive :yummy:

And a small Cause for celebration, she is looking healthy and grew 1/2" in 24 hours !

IF she doesn't flower too early there is a good chance of harvesting enough to confirm if I want More !

Wedding Cheesecake has over come her rough treatment and grew an inch And appears much wider.

California Snow grew 1 1/2 !

I made a clumsy attempt at fimming her, thinking I cut too low but no biggee. It's above the fifth node where I normally top.

Gorilla Punch was not in a SIP solo cup and is a week younger that the Six Shooter but almost as tall o_O

You must be a sharp shooter! My aim is pretty good, but I can barely see the damn gnats under the grow lights. I'd have salt all over the place without any dead gnat bodies to show for it.

I mainly shoot flies they piss me off to the point I lose my shit 🤣🤣
