Shadowman's First Grow

Hey everyone, Nothing new to post today, I'm just checking out the other grows I'm subbed to and catching up. I'll probably have some updates in the next day or 2. Take it easy and stay out of my Easter Basket when I'm napping. Just kidding, help yourself! LATER.

Awesome! Thanks Shadowman. We are both right around the same points in our grows. Im gonna keep an eye on your journal for sure!
I also added your Journal to my sig. Hopefully you'll get some more traffic!

:welcome: Everyone, Happy 420 Day! :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo:

Here's a picture of a dark period green light that I promised to post that I found online and uploaded to the off-topic gallery instead of posting a link to amazombie or anything like that...

My update photos. They are starting to grow significantly by the day, at least I notice a marked improvement. I also dropped my T5 down to about 2" above the seedlings.

:thanks:

2" Below T5 seems a lot lower than you needed at this age.

I raised the 7 seeds that sprouted and am growing 6 trays of mixed vegetables and herbs under 4 foot T5s.
The trays 10 inches from lights dry out faster than the trays 12 inches from lights, even sitting next to the humidifier output.

You've got weeks before your seedlings will be light starving under T5. I saw a thread where someone went all the way to harvest with 6 inches from T5 lights.

Personally, I'd back off the lights and give the girls time to grow.

I know what you mean, I have a 2' and the seedlings are about 3" in height. I just didn't want them to stretch too much before the leaves catch up. I'll raise them to about 6", What do you think? Thanks for the suggestion.

Think? I have no intention of thinking today.:passitleft:
I'm going to keep on sitting under a tree and relaxing until the universe sends someone over with more knowledge.

Have yourself a good 420 :-)

:welcome: I'm going to check the soil moisture when the lights come on, I haven't watered since Wednesday. Here are some pics from last night before lights out.

I hope everyone was able to celebrate 420 Day. Everyday I have a stash is 420 Day to me!
:thanks:

Looking good! Just a tip, don't over-water, but do not under water either. Seedlings are sensitive and the dirt has to be moist, not wet. I'll bet the root is a good 4'' long already under the seedling. Make sure it's moist down there, but not wet. Make the root search for water & she'll develop quicker and stronger.

Those babies look great! I cant wait till mine get movin!

I transplanted one of my auto's about five days after germination. I don't recommend transplanting an autoflower, but here is a blurry shot under the hood of what the taproot was up to in such a short time.

As you can see, a seedling can hit bottom in a small container in a hurry.

2 inches for such young poppers isn't really necessary imho. I usually rock my t5 or cfls a minimum of 8 inches away on seedlings. You wont need them that close until you get more foliage you need to penetrate through.

:welcome: I would like to thank all that have shared their advice on watering and light issues recently, the only reason I'm doing a blanket thank you is because I received several and my time is limited today.
:thanks: :goodjob:

One thing I do with seedlings that works well is when watering try and water outside of soil area and only a very small pour in the middle so you make the little buggers roots grow out faster looking for water. If doing that you will see when transplanting them tons of roots all on the out side of soil feeding witch speeds up root growth and veg growth. PM when when you get a chance.

Keep them them lights close for real tight nodes, you might not see that in the beginning, but in a couple of weeks you'll see the difference.

:Namaste:

Wow Shadowman the little thing is growing on good ! The soil seems to be doing its job..no nutrients, right? Still gonna wait and see what happens before I purchase the 420 soil..

Hey granny, No nutes, just added a little root booster(mixed in water) that they sell with soil and water(distilled). I'm going to keep true on no extra nutes this first grow to test the theory that their soil and water is all you need. Well I might add some CO2 in flower. Thanks for the interest.

Hey SABO, I got the lights at about 4-6 inches and not hot at all, T5 runs cool along with the cfl's. Burn one for me brother!
