Ravenplume Grow Journal 2022 - #2: Bittersweet Pie From Unexpected Seed

2024-02-25 / 12:00

All remaining Bitter Sweet Pie Lites (S:02, 03, 04, and 05) were started on flowering lighting cycle last night at 22:00.

Bitter Sweet Pie Lite S:02 plain and simply broke while I was putting it to bed. It had been stretched out chasing the light, and there was a severe "kink" in the stem that looked like it would become a full fledged break with the lightest touch.
NHN-Journal-0000-BSP-Lite-BGM-Lite-28.jpg

And it did. It was quite a shame too, since S:02 had one of the healthiest looking crowns of all the BSP Lites, and was likely about to start showing preflowers at the least.
NHN-Journal-0000-BSP-Lite-BGM-Lite-29.jpg

Even though it will likely fail, I went ahead and gave the broken off crown a dose of Dip 'n Grow to see if it will root.

And as is becoming tradition, I have started 2 fresh Bitter Sweet Pie Lite seeds as replacements for the one lost.

Time To bring the BSP Journal up to date. Not a whole lot to work with here, and will probably get another one or two started soon, along with a couple others that I have very limited amounts to work with.

So first of all, there is the Primary for the Grow, aka S:0

1720754061086.png

I have a fairly high level of confidence that this one is a girl, simply due to never showing as a boy during the first flowering and then reveg stage.

CN-BSP-Lite-0003.jpg

Then we have S:01, a confirmed boy that has recently finished reveg and is waiting his turn to pollinate a Bubblegum Lite girl in one of my double cross experiments.

Next up, with no sequence number yet, we have this struggling little waif...
CN-BSP-Lite-0004.jpg

I do not remember if it got sexed or not, and if so, what the results were. It does look like it had flowered and revegged at some point, and I do know I haven't missed a boy yet; so I do have some confidence this will be another girl. I have it potted now and hopefully can nurse her back to health real soon.
CN-BSP-Lite-0005.jpg

Meanwhile, I got one more going that was probably a late arrival. I honestly can't recall. Will try to keep better journals in the future...
CN-BSP-Lite-0006.jpg

Whatever it ends up being, boy or girl, we will find in a couple months. If a girl, then she will be the one that gets the Bubblegum Lite pollen for a new Wildling.
CN-BSP-Lite-0007.jpg

So that is all I have currently operational for Bitter Sweet Pie Lite. Definitely need to get at least one additional going soon.

And here is the lineup thus far...

Coming up next, even tonight very likely, the Bubblegum update.

No pics for this (would just be a shot of a Jiffy Pot filled with dirt and a name stake anyway, nothing really picture worthy).

Just started a single Bitter Sweet Pie Lite:2023 in a J-Pot. More when and if it develops.

The midseason backup Bitter Sweet Pie Lite started direct in a Jiffy Pot back on the 17th looks like it is starting to break out. I am predicting it will be popped by the 23rd. Once it is popped with the baby leaves spread, it will be declared sprouted, like I did with the Birthday Spanking Pair:01 midseason backup earlier today.

Finally Bitter Sweet Pie Lite's update...

NHN-Journal-0000-43 - BSP-Lite - S00.jpg

First we have S:00 - Honeymane, out in the cage in the spot that previously hosted my Pair:01 Birthday Spanking that ended up being a boy. In the week to week and a half between the time the BDSP was removed and Honeymane planted in his place, I had hand pollinated her with Ivy, my Bubblegum Lite/2023 - S:01 boy, and she is definitely with seed. Her seeds, which will be declared Wildling with a sequence number anywhere from :02 to :07 will be half siblings of those from the Bubblegum Lite Breedback I just had (Ivy-S:01 and Reneen-S:00). Don't know which number yet, as those are assigned on a first harvested, first named basis.

She may not look like much right now, but she does still have another two months to grow up, what with me shooting for a Halloween harvest.

Meanwhile, in another part of the property...

NHN-Journal-0000-44 - BSP-Lite - Roll Call.jpg

This is what I have for BSP Lites other than the S:00 Primary. There are no boys among this batch, as my only boy (S:01) did not survive the brutal heat wave out on the back deck or front porch. The Bitter Sweet Pie Lite "roll call" currently is 3 confirmed girls (S:02, S:04, and S:06), one Token in a Solo Cup (TK:04), and the future, and still unsprouted in its napkin, TK:14 vanished out of its napkin, obviously dropped somewhere in the house. No biggie, it was looking like it was going to need replaced anyway. I am starting a new one as of 16:00, and will give it until the end of September to sprout, then its successor will be part of the 200 Series TK subjects. Won't necessarily be TK:204 though, since they are done alphabetically, and there will be new subject seeds in that upcoming group)

This gal, designated S:02 was going to be kept throughout the rest of the year and made into the Primary BSP Lite for next year, but that plan has changed significantly.

NHN-Journal-0000-46- BSP-Lite -S02 with Seed.jpg

I noticed this morning that she has at least one seed pod showing. And not seeing any others, I am going to presume she self pollinated, so she gets to grow up normal, and will even get a 5 gallon bucket possibly tomorrow to finish the next 2 months in out back.

NHN-Journal-0000-47 - BSP-Lite -S04.jpg

Now, the gal designated S:04 was that previously shown and potted sickly little waif. Well, she has been on 24/7 lighting in my upstairs office since 07-11... close to 2 months now (and will continue as such after this update is done). And she is no longer a sickly little waif. She has made a full recovery, and is also revegged. I am now 99% certain this one is a girl (had a high percentage of BSP Lite girls, it seems), and if she is, she will be the S:00 primary for next year's Bitter Sweet Pie Lites.

I am also intending a few little post season experiments and exercises with her as well. I want to try to get a couple cuttings taken and rooted at some point soon. Plus, I am thinking of flipping her back to flower starting next month and try to confirm 100% this one is a girl. This time, after flipping, I will try to get her knocked up with some saved pollen, by sprinkling the crown and a couple nodes daily for the first week or two. Then if no pollen sacs manifest (boys always seem to show much sooner than girls), and no seeds show during the reveg (confirmed with Feyleaf Lite that seed pods vanish after reveg), then I will know this is a girl, and probably right in the nick of time for next year's planting. She will have to be a bucket girl next year though, since the 4 spots in the cage are reserved for Feyleaf-Generation:01, Woofle Dust-Generation:01, Muskflower-Generation:01, and the @SeedsMan Purple Ghost Candy that I am going to attempt to overwinter.

If the PGC fails to come back, the Birthday Spankings have dibs on the available space, either a Pair:02/G:01(f) girl... Still presuming my "with a seed or two" Birthday Cake Lite self pollinated) or a Pair:00/G:01 from the gang bang pollination of my one girl with her 4 brothers.

NHN-Journal-0000-48 - BSP-Lite -S06.jpg

S:06 from the Midseason Replacements is presumed girl for now, thus the S:06 designator instead of S:05 if a boy

NHN-Journal-0000-49 - BSP-Lite -TK14.jpg

Token:04, still alive and healthy.

NHN-Journal-0000-50 - BSP-Lite -EH-C04.jpg

Egghead Cell:04, also still alive, but meh on the health like the other eggheads. If it makes it to Halloween, it will get potted and put into Intensive Lighting Care, and hopefully can be nursed to health.

And their "vitals" as of a few hours ago...

S:00 Honeymane - Not getting in there at this time to take her measurements : In cage bearing seeds from Bubblegum Lite S:01 (Ivy)
S:02 - 11" (27.9cm) - Bearing a single seed thus far, likely a self pollination and feminized Breedback
S:04 - 13" (33cm)
S:06 - 3 1/4" (9.53cm)
TK:04 - 1 5/8" (41.3mm)
EH-C:04 - 2 1/4" (5.71cm)

I figured since I needed to get into the cage anyway to get pics and measurements for Bethany and Blinky for their respective updates, may as well get an updated shot of Honeymane, BSP Lite S:00

And a sampling of her Bubblegum Lite pollinated Wildling seeds.

Heck with what I said earlier, S:06 is now promoted to S:01 - Amberwing, as I just noticed this little pollen sac on his crown, which has been "ceremonially" collected.
NHN-Journal-0000-51 - BSP-Lite S01 - Amberwing.jpg

My S:04 girl that I have revegging upstairs (now got Amberwing up there with her) will become his partner for the Breedback. I will actively get cracking on getting her grown up and out a bit more, so I have plenty of plant to work with when the time comes. Most likely, after the main harvest, she will claim one of the 5 gallon buckets that will be freed up and get raised indoors over the Winter. Then I am thinking I might flip her to flower come February for a possible late February or early March pollination.

The currently unnamed Bubblegum Lite-S:02 is slated for knock up by Amberwing as well, continuing of my original "double cross" plan. Already got a Bitter Sweet Pie Lite girl knocked up by a Bubblegum Lite Boy, now the reverse will complete the experiment.

CN - BSP Lite-S00 - Honeymane - Ready to Process.jpg

Alright, today I start processing the Bitter Sweet Pie Lite that replaced the Bubblegum Lite out in the cage. This one was hand pollinated by Ivy, Bubblegum Lite-S:01 before going into the ground, and has made a nice batch of new Wildlings, which I am tentatively dubbing WD:04, unless one of the seeds I started last night sprouts before one of Teddy's, then it becomes WD:03 instead. So yeah, I pulled a sample bud for my last toke of the night last night, and just from that, collected 25 seeds thus far. 4 are started in a damp napkin and 21 are bagged up for the long term archives, which will receive the next 3 as well to make my standard archive loadout of 2 dozen seeds.

I am also thinking that starting with this one, each branch will contribute one significant bud to the archives, meaning a few buds to ultimately be vacuum sealed and time capsuled for a couple decades or more. Just need to look into that process soon and figure out best techniques for preserving long term.

For today, I am likely only going to get one or two branches processed, then finish tomorrow, hopefully.

And going in order on the line, it looks like Blinky, my first @SeedsMan Purple Ghost Candy will be next, followed by Feyleaf.
