Random Thoughts: Plants & Genetics

We must be talking about 2 different things. The only seeds I get are when I have males around. I say I see lots of them. That is probably a bit exaggerated. I don't think I have ever had a Dinafem plant that didn't have some. I see at least one or 2 each grow. Like I said that is mostly in feminized strains. I will look at regular strains in a whole different way.

Which brings up the next subject. With all the changes to how I plan to redo the house. I am now using a friend for most the work. I will be starting up to look at the Purple Afghani soon. Since I am not going to have to keep everything small. I might as well get ready to set back up. I can still use the big tent with my largest LED.

Since I am going to do that I am going to look at another regular strain while I do. I know it will be a D.J. Short sativa just not sure which one. Pretty sure it will be Flo. I have lots of them and they are a early flowering sativa. Pretty sure it will be finished first so I won't have to worry about they tent going long. I am going to have just enough time to get one grow off.

Sorry Jack maybe I was confused about what you mean by nanners. I have had more than one occasion and several breeders that have herm/nanners causing few seeds here and there. I think it's where the phrase bagseed comes from. Maybe it's just my bad luck. But if you're not getting seeds from nanners then I wouldn't even bother looking for them. That would really make growing for me a lot easier :D

Probably depends if a few nanners or a crapload like that Acapulco Gold I grew that had a bizillion seeds by the time it was done  , yet didn't pollinate the ladies on either side of it which was interesting (caught it late and said screw it and let it go as an experiment).

I had one last month that had nanners hiding at the spot where nodes meet the main stalk. The plants next to it down wind had some seeds but not a ton. Couple dozen. Just enough to be a pain in the butt. Good thing I'm not in it for production

Dankman. The where you find them is the key. The ones I am talking about usually come out of the top of buds. Just a lone banana sticking out. (That is why I call those nanners. Only the one banana laying there.) Usually always late in flower. Anything at the junction of a leaf or branch I consider a hermie. In those case's you usually see the flower itself dried or not near it. I usually kill those plants but have had a few come around after trimming them. In those case's, some kind of stress was involved. Noticed or not noticed.

I have been doing a bit of checking on all the Purple Afghani strains out there. Or some I should say. Not as many versions as I thought there would be. From what I have found it is Purple Kush x Afghani #1. The breeder that sent seeds has access to the Afghani I know. Probably has access to a great Purple Kush clone. So now I am a bit more interested in growing it.

I have never been a Afghani fan so I have not looked into it's hybrids much. The first was made in 2004. I can only find one main stream breeder running it. BCBD has a version in Canada. The original breeder I know nothing about. In this case I am pretty sure I will be growing a different take on the the same hybrid. Basically a copy LMAO. Or producing them for the open market which sounds better LMAO. At least it isn't a iconic strain know for certain things like Blue Berry.

As I mentioned things have changed. This time for the better at least. Since I decided to set back up I can do things different. I am going to start every seed. And I am going to use a 600 watt MH and HPS to grow them. Might as well go with what I know. Better to understand a plant if I understand the light they were grow under. I know what to look for density wise with the HPS. Not so much with the LED.

This is about the only time I have ever sprouted every seed in a pack of regular seeds. Normally I try to leave 4 for some reason LOL. Most of the time it is because of space. This time I am going to have a whole tent to work with and plenty of weed. I do plan on running a couple Cinderella 99 along with them. I wanted to look at Flo but I would rather have a strain I know for reference and new weed. I have plenty of feminized Cindy seeds now.

And so it begins! All ready to start up again. I still need to get the big tent up but I am ready to go for starts. As of now I am going with 3 different strains. Purple Afghani, C-99, And Lemon Cheisel by Relic seeds.

I have been wanting to try this guys strains since he was running Dynasty seeds. I actually still have 2 of Dynasty's strains I still need to look at. They all flower longer and wouldn't work for this run. All these strains should have a early harvest. I am going with 6 of them in the hopes of getting 3 females. I germinated all the Purple Afghani. Normal M/F ratio's would put me with 6 to 7 females. We will see. Running things this way I should have enough plants to try the PA in both HPS and LED tents.

Lemon Cheisel is going to be the real interesting one. It is a early harvest lemon cheese. I started half the seeds in the hopes I really like this strain. It might be a perfect partner for Franco's Lemon Cheese which has a 11 week flower time. I would grow the hell out of a strain like that if I could keep it in the 8 to 9 week flower time. Plus this will give me a look at how Relic's Exodus Cheese Bx is in a hybrid. I have the same strain crossed with Agent Orange Relic made. That is the strain I have real high hopes for.

Everything is in the dirt. By day 3 all seeds but one had popped and were put in soil.

Now that I am up and going with my first test run for a known breeder. With conversations considered. I guess it is time to let the cat out of the bag on who it is for. Well not today but soon.

Today we see if you guys have figured out who it is for. Who is trying to produce a Purple Afghani to the open market? Any guesses?

Nope Pennywise. Good try, I would have considered her. I was hoping for more guesses before I said the name. I might need to leave you guys hanging for a few more days LMAO.

Most new starts are above ground now. I think there is only 2 of the Purple Afghani that have not popped through. Everything else is has. One of the Lemon Cheisel had trouble shedding the shell and I had to help it. I am going to have to wait to see how it does.

I am going to add 2 more seeds of a feminized strain I think. I kind of want to try Katsu soon. Maybe they will be what I choose. I want something pretty early to be sure I don't have timing issues with my next grow. It is going to have to be a hybrid for sure. Day time and night time should be covered by the C-99 and the Purple Afghani. Hard to find hybrids that don't run less then the 9 week range. Just to be sure I want something in the 7 to 8 range if I can find one.

Riot seeds is one I wouldn't have cleared my schedule for lol. I just don't know them well enough. I have yet to even grow a strain of theirs.

I dropped a pretty good hint early on about who I am testing for. I figure someone would catch the fact that I have most of the breeders genetics already.

Purple Afghani was bred around 2004. I thought it would have been older. I am pretty sure the strain I am testing is the breeder recreated the hybrid himself with their recipe. I don't know that for sure yet just a guess.

The only way to explain these things is to just tell you guys who it is. It is a strain for Grimm Brothers. From what he did with Cinderella it shows he doesn't take the easy way around things. He was the US distributor for SSSC n the 80's and 90's so I know he has original Afghani #1. What I don't know is what exactly he used for this hybrid. He is well connected so there is a very good chance he had access to a great Purple Kush clone. That plant is the key to this hybrid.

Whats funny. I had just bought Grimm's new Grimm Glue just before he ask about the testing thing. I was figuring it was going to be something made with new genetics LOL. I have not had a problem with any of his genetics before. I have like all of them. That is why I can drop everything to look at it. If he put it together he must think it will keep up with whats out there. It may not be the strongest stuff out there. It should be solid genetics like all his other stuff. This is the first one I have tried with no Princess or Cinderella 99 in it.

It all has to come together to be a great strain for me. Potency matters in a way. Mostly it is the whole experience. Terpene profiles are so high now days you really get the aroma effects from the terpenes along with the high from the THC. Usually when they are that high, flavor and taste go along with it. In that way flavor and taste are just as important to me too.

I am good with strains that are less then 20% THC. I am finding that the older genetics that came in around 12 to 16% THC don't do a hell of a lot for me anymore. There are a lot of genetics out there that are in the 12 to 16% range. No matter what the breeders claim. Some strains can make up for it with effects. Others not so much. They are still good strains but a bit on the weak side for someone with my tolerance.
