Random Thoughts: Plants & Genetics

Nice line up! Mine is somewhat similar as far as breeders. Sometimes when I'm stoned I look at the packs and wonder what gems are hiding in them :laughtwo: Especially in the F1'S you just never know what you might find. I love cracking seeds. Clones for me get boring in a hurry

I would love to save my favorites and grow them for ever. i know I would soon be bored. Hell I am tired of most strains by the time I get another grown. That is the main reason I want to breed. Mostly to just self the pheno's I really like. Plus like Dankman mentioned F-1's can always have something special. That is why I always like to have a F-1 to make when I self a plant.

With all the rioting and bullshit going on. The huge line up of seeds looks even better. I'm not running out of seeds ever!

Yes it is Dankman. You will find some interest in what I was sent me to look at. "Purple Kush". So much for getting to test new strains crossed with their own stuff LOL. As of now I don't know anything more then the name. If I remember right, you had a lot do with why I have Purple Kush along with Lemon Skunk before I got these.

I still need to get back with them about the Purple Kush. As far as I know the strain was lost years ago. Or the real one anyway. It is another of the strains lost like Road Kill Skunk. I am going to grow it one way or the other. I said I would and I will. I am not going to run it with my full grow. I am going to do a single strain run just for it. That is what I am going to be doing this summer. I really hope there is something to it. If it had come from any other person I probably wouldn't even grow it. There is a chance that the strain was still out there in someones basement. The same company has brought out 2 other old school strains. Maybe he found another one.

Sounds like a good one to test. I'm not sure if you saw my post about when I was researching how to cure and store freshly harvested seeds, I asked couple of breeders i follow that encourage breeding for personal use. They both wanted seeds from my Chernobyl F2's and in return they gave me some of their own genetics. One is a triangle kush cross testers I'm going to be running sometime soon. One breeder sent me 8 different strains with up to 30 seeds per strain. It's really cool to see positivity in the community without just being totally greedy

That's great. Be careful with all those new genetics. Just because they are breeders does not mean they can breed better then you. They wanted your Chernobyl for a reason. Some will even go as far as breeding with it and calling it a Chernobyl hybrid. They will forget the F-2 when it comes to that. It is great that you are being noticed. If they really like your Chernobyl they will be wanting more.

To tell the truth I am regretting a bit the fact I agreed to test a strain. I hate being committed to do it though. I do know that Purple Kush has a great reputation, but it is a older reputation. Not a big deal as I will always run some of the oldies. Not all my strains are going to be able to make the 20% THC range. I know there are some high THC pheno's of Purple Kush. How easy it is to find them I don't know. If PK ends up being put off till I restart for the year. I am going to have to drop Holy Grail Kush. I only need one Kush per grow.

Nothing is going on if I can't get this damn house work done. Finding good contractors is not easy around here

I imagine some “breeders”want to cash in on Subcools death and sell his strains now that he is out of the picture. Like the Todd McCormick cashing in and selling nevils haze right after Nevil’s death.
Could be the case. But one of the two, really both seem to have integrity. I think they have good intentions. But in the end it is what it is. I saw Norstar genetics was one of Subcools main breeder's and was selling off all Sub's seeds at discount prices for bulk purchase. I have always been a big fan of Subcools work. We message back and forth over the years. Shortly before his passing I sent him a picture of my Chernobyl slymer pheno asking if it looked like the original slymer. He was excited to see it and replied as always. Watching his vids is what got me started. He kinda was my mentor just from watching his U tube library. So I hope I didn't do him any wrong. :rip: Sub

@Jackalope I visited Oakland back around 10 years ago. The hot clone around then was the purple kush "sr-71" cut. I went into the gift shop @ the Oaksterdam University and was chatting around with the clerks about plants. Even back then I was trying to get cuts. It didn't work, I ended up buying the course book for the school though. My point is Purple Kush can be good stuff.

I shouldn't have grouped them into that lump. I'm sure many people want chernobyl seeds. I DO! I'll never forget many years ago... seeing pictures of the golden ticket pheno.

We wouldn't do that to ya, bro!

Coming up next, our new strain, Chernobel! ;)

Yeah it all may be legit. I didn't mean to sound negative about it. You are right about it being cool that they are interested enough in what you have to give you other strains in return. Free is free. They are not all going to suck if any of them do.

Cannafish I am looking forward to seeing what is in these Purple Kush seeds. I really don't think they would be wasting their time with a lesser pheno. What I don't know is if they are regular or feminized seeds. It isn't labeled. My guess would be feminized. I originally thought they would be regular seeds. If so where did they get a male?

They may just be a S-1 of a great Purple Kush clone. Might be a good idea to find out before I start seeds. I don't want to start 6 seeds if they are all female. I might be able to tell by how many seeds are in the pack. The company has different seed counts in feminized and regular strains. They breed both.

Now for a update on when I will be able to start back up. Looks like sooner then later. A lot of what I wanted to do was overkill for the place I am in. I am going to do things different and it looks like it won't take near as long. That means if I start up soon I am going to be stress testing it at the same time. I am going to have pretty warm temps. I have not see temps in my temporary setup above 90 degrees yet. As the summer warms it is going to get harder to keep them below 90 degrees. Not sure if I will be running a air conditioner in the room yet or not. Dry enough air already. Pretty sure I am going to see if the swamp cooler can take care of the whole house.

I solved all my questions about the Purple Kush. It was easier then I thought. Research was the real key. When I went back and counted seeds. I found 2 things. 1 that there was 12 seeds which means it is probably a regular strain. 2 The strain is Purple Afghani not Purple Kush LMAO.

Which only brings up more questions. 1 what the hell is anyone looking at Purple Afghani anymore. 2 what am I doing growing a Afghani anyway. I am not much of a Afghani fan.

I think I understand a bit more now. The conversation before I was asked about testing. I had mentioned that I have most of, and knew their genetics pretty well. Maybe they are going to work on their indica side for a while.
I still don't know if it is a strain they made or one they hope to work with. Either way I am going to know if it is worth a shit by winter. I flip flopped a bit on how to do this best. I settled on growing it separate from anything else so I can give it my full attention. I just don't know enough about it to risk a portion of my grow to it. I want my personal stash to stay along the lines they are now.

Could the Purple Afghani get there? I hope so. I have found older strains that keep up just fine with newer ones. It is all about effects not total THC percent. There is always the chance this is a newly bred Purple Afghani. I have a idea in my head about it. I will wait till I can know for sure before I say any more about my thoughts on the genetic background.

Good morning Jack :nomo: I've setup a small tent for first time runs. Meaning until I know if a plant is stable it won't be in my main bloom tent. No more worrying about herms dropping pollen around the proven stable plants. I'm tired of worrying about nanners. So I converted my 32"x48"x60" to bloom. I have to flip smaller. But it's piece of mind for me

Morning Dankman. I have seen so many nanners and have got no seeds that I don't hardly pay attention to them any more. It might bite me in the ass someday. I grow lots of feminized strains and see them a lot. If it is only the yellow banana I ignore them. I do check plants when I see them so I know there are no flower to go with them. I rarely find any. Almost all my hermies have been killed because of flowers not nanners.

I like the idea a smaller grows for new or unknown strains. At least to some extent. The Purple Afghani is the perfect one to start this with. I hope to be surprised by it. I don't grow many Afghani strains for a reason. I am not a big indica fan.

It is a totally new strain to me. So I want to grow it. I love growing new strains and new is new. Even when it is old lol. I found great surprises before with strains. Maybe I will be again. Chances are it will work great because I don't expect much from it.

Good morning Jack. I've been unlucky with nanners seeding out my plants. Not full blown pollinated, but enough seeds to piss me off. I have zero tolerance for plants that are prone to nanner. I will cull them out without blinking an eye. I have enough stable strains on hand to not have to mess with them. The way I'm looking at the first run tent is just proving ground. I am tired of long veg's and disappointment with new strains. A have half a dozen different strains going that I've never found a nanner on. Some have been harvested every couple months for over a year :D
