Radogast's First Indoor Seed Grow - In Search of Mothers

I use to be a blues fan in the 90s. Brett hull days, I don't even follow hockey much anymore. I was always a football fan, cfl lol laugh all you want I got a T-shirt that says it all. The CFL.... We've got bigger balls Hahahahah. Something like that.

To stay on topic... How's things over in your grow room? Gonna go have a look now.

Cheers.

I'm going to take a stab and say that by your reference Stumped, that you're a fellow Canadian like myself. Correct me if i'm wrong, Eh?

Hey Radogast, What's up my friend? How's the girls doing this fine morning? I'm going to check out your off topic journal, I'll catch ya later.

Sitting around at work waiting for the chance to buy some calcium/magnesium so that I can try to get these girls back in the green.

I am seriously wondering why I should bother growing in soil if the soil plus the added nutrients aren't enough to keep them in peak health.

During my short time growing in both soil and Hydro, I have without a doubt noticed a huge difference in the growth rates and overall health in both mediums. Hydro grows probably 5 times faster. Everybody says that soil is more forgiving. I dont know about that. Im leaning towards hydro being a little more forgiving. Not to mention that it is a hell of a lot easier to diagnose and treat any problems. Dont get me wrong. With hydro, you have to be on top of your game. Constant monitoring and adjusting. But soil, I find it hard to correctly water and feed them. And also, find it takes longer for the ladies to recover and respond to any adjustments to the nutes.

Thats just my opinion. Maybe as I get better, the soil will be eaiser. For now Im sticking to hydro for my main grows.......

I'm going to try a hempy/perlite grow next time for some of the very reasons you mentioned, Cannabis 1. My Pro-Mix is buffering more than I had hoped.

Some people just have a knack for working with dirt :)

Definitely best to learn all mediums!!!!

I actually saw some pics of a guy growing bud in a pot of old fan leaves and stems that were ground up. To me, that seems like one of the best ways to grow in a "soil" type medium. After my first harvest, I will save the trimmings and try and do as he did.

I agree with you 100%. But temperatures for new growers tend to get over looked constantly. Go look in the abandon journals section. Everything is dandy in veg. Flower time comes, root rot sets in and I find out the only fix is 50$ a pint lol and abandon the whole fuckin DWC shit. Hahahahah fucking frozen water bottles every 4 hours. Lol but I god damn hate soil. And I wish flowering temps were better for me.
You had good luck bro, or you came prepared and have everything better then my ghetto ass setup lol

You are right though and I agree. Soil is just more, slack to be honest. Hydro from my brief run was growing waaaay faster

Cheers man.

Cheers from the West Coast Stumped!

And Rado, why don't you try growing in rockwool. You're cloning in it already, no?

I ask moving towards rockwool/hydro capn style. I was just over at TheCapn's blog taking a long look.
My personality type lends towards slowness, tortoise like.

My next tool acquisition is a min/max thermometer. Near term I need it for a pond that I am building to see what fish out can host in the spring/summer/fall months. Longer term the thermometer is freed up for a hydro grow. The 2000gh pond pump is repurposed as a waterfall pump and replaced with a 400 gph pump which will become a hydro pump.

I'll probably be ready for a hydro grows in November :)

Capn Style? Sounds like gangster talk

Yep Capn style is the way forward for hydro, especially if you want to train your plant hard. I cant wait till next run, going full hydro in the Oxy system, should half my veg times! :)

I've seen what you can do LA.. dont cut your veg times, just let em veg out as you normally would and with the rapid growth, grow a behemoth! I like TheCapns thought of longer veg = Larger yield. You think if you flower a plant for at least 2 months, why not veg it for at least 2 months? Reading his article on How vegetative growth affects yield, I cant help but not want to veg a plant longer, unless you dont have the space, it makes sense to utilize your space as best you can and grow one more manageable plant than have to tend to multiple. That's just what i'm experiencing right now with space constraints.

I have sativas that can take up to 4 months to flower.. should i veg for 4 months? i think that plant would take over my entire apartment if i did. But in my current journal, i have 2 mother plants that have been going for over 2 months now, and it wont be another at least month until i am able to flower them. One is a White Widow and one is my african sativa. The sativa was well over 3 feet tall sitting in a 5gal DWC bucket in my bathtub. It was getting near 6" of my 400wMH bulb i use to veg them, so i topped her. She is a ridiculous sized bush and once shes ready to flower (probably around 4 months veg) i'm hoping that one plant will pull in over 1LB.. on only my second grow. With the widow probably around half pound to 3/4.

So speaking from little experience  i think that a grower such as yourself could really utilize the rapid vegetative growth with the Capn style hydro, but still go with the standard veg time (whatever your standard is haha) and produce one hell of a monster (2LB?)

Regardless. Capn style would be insane to see with your fluxing!!

I purchased actual calmag today after over 3 weeks of trying. Also some Rhizo Boost.
These go into tomorrow's watering for the light green and yellowing leaves.

This it's now my entire collection of nutes accumulated over this first grow.

Yay Calmag! I am a fan of Botanicare products. I use Botanicare Pure Blend Compost tea as well as Aquashield and love them both. The Aquashield is a liquid compost solution and it works amazing. I suggest anyone who grows cannabis to use this product in their hydro water reservoirs or in your feeding regiment for those who grow in soil or soil less mediums. Used in conjunction with other beneficial bacteria, its a definite way to maintain a strong and healthy root system

If it wasn't for the Aquashield, i would have no plants left at all after my root issue before i changed my DWC tubs. It literally saved my first grow. Except for me drying out my sativa roots on wednesday. Aquashield sure wont fix that!!!

He knows his shit that's for sure. I loved the blog on phenotype Hunting. A great hydro grower for sure.

Photo update
Flowering 6-5-4 weeks.

White Widow Denise in front is at 6 weeks. She has stopped stretch and is filling in buds between nodes. A little late.
Carmelicious Quiffa behindsis at 5 weeks. Still stretching at 42 inches (3.5') above the soil. Lights can go 6" higher.
CalMag is bringing darker color back to top leaves

Carmelicious Sassy at 5 weeks. She is stretching slowly. Forming flowers first and filling in between nodes as she stretches.
Sassy has the fattest flowers so far. White Widow Bellatrix is growing Sassy style but at least a week behind.
