Radogast's First Indoor Seed Grow - In Search of Mothers

Bud photos

Older White Widow is growing together in thin buds.
Last week she looked like the Carmelicious in the background - popcorn on shishkabob skewers.

Sassy buds are thicker and denser at about 5 weeks. Dense at nodes but not connected solid between buds yet.

I'm growing an autoflower and a photo in Capn Style and it's awesome. The auto takes up 1/4 of my 5x5 tent. Capn style is no joke :)

I forget which thoughts I have posted on which threads about growing Capn Style.
This next grow of clones from the 4 plants currently in flower is in enhanced potting soil.

In the next 6 weeks or so before I start clones and/or seeds, I expect to visualize and build the pumps and reservoirs for a Capn Style veg and flower.

We been talking about it a lot the last couple days over on my Journal. How you dont think you are ready for a grow like this and/or dont want to be stuck with only a couple strains.

You still never mentioned if you are going to keep running the two strains you have now? Is your wife going to strain hunt since "shes the master grower"? i'm not so sure i believe that statement anymore!! She may have the medical permit to use, but you sir, seem to be the master grower. UNLESS, this is really all her work and not only do you just do the heavy lifting and pruning (as i think you stated earlier) but you also do the picture uploading and commentary and all around good journal keeping.:goodjob:

But back on topic, Like i stated in my journal, you have the head space to do a Capn style grow. Pretty sure he said his ceiling height was 7.5 feet as well, no? I also agree with what you both said on my journal, i would get bored of a strain after smoking it for awhile too, then i would need to move on to something different. Search out some good strains that are good for her medical needs, and keep the strain going if its what she likes. If not, keep on searching. The Capn also mentions he doesn't keep mothers as they are too much work and from what i am experiencing, they cost you more money on Nutes! Take a cutting of a plant before it flowers, and while you're flowering out your strain, the cutting sits in veg for 8-10 or 11 weeks depending on your strain choice. If you like it, keep the strain going. If not, scrap it and find another one!

I'm sure before you know it, everyone on :420: will be growing Capn Style!

I'm well aware I've been whining and equivocating over on your grow journal. :)
I thought you'd be sick of me over there by now.
But you had your chance sir, now you are here on my turf where I get to whine until everyone leaves

I'm sticking with the master grower designation for the wife in any place construed to be a public forum.
She looks at the plants a couple of times a week and listens to my thoughts so that makes it her grow !

As far as strains and variety as the spice of life, I have an answer: BOVEDA !!!
State law allows up to 10.5 ounces with no specifications on the number of plants.
Two grows should allow her to 'bank' 2-4 ounces of a strain. With the Boveda 62 packs, they should last for over a year.
New strains added to the bank should keep her in variety.

Part of the reason the wife went for White Widow and Carmelicious is that no-one is growing them around here. :thumb:
This makes it possible to give away herb to other growers, appreciative growers, who have offered to share :thanks: samples of their current grows.
This should add variety to the medical GS Cookies, Kushes and Dreams that flood the local market.

The first state medical dispensaries are opening for business this summer and fall. My wife is excited about multiple sample size buys.

She has Skunk and bagseed from Amsterdam that I may start this fall, but I suspect there may be new seeds that show up before then :)

Here are the pics of weed growing in weed....

I fell asleep on the sofa last night so did not visit the girls for 48 hrs, the first day I did not check in with them.
They were fine. Like teenagers, they only needed me for food and shelter now.

White Widow Denise dropped about 6 leaves sucking the leaves of nutrients until brown and crispy.
At 5 weeks in flower, she stopped stretching days ago. The buds are growing slower.

Low bud on right, one of about 7 this size.

Buds along a stalk. There are lots of these.

>>> Part of the reason the wife went for White Widow and Carmelicious is that no-one is growing them around here <<

Same reason i chose my strains that i'm growing. All there is around here is Kush. All everyone wants is Kush. So all the commercial (yet illegal) grows just do Kush. It gets boring. Like that picture of the leaf i took on that bag of Bubba Kush. Its some really good stuff. but after a half pound (hell even a half a zip) you want some variety. Thats why i chose to do a few strains at once. Sh*t.. I lied, thats not why i chose to do multiple strains at once. But it just worked out that way. I chose to do them (if you read early in my journal) because i lost half my white widow seeds due to damping off, then lost half of those seedlings to root issues, and culled them. Popped my White Rhino seeds (10) and i ended up with 4 remaining (3 in flower now and 1 mother that i demolished.. RIP) Again with the damping off. Or rookie over-caring. You know what i'm talking about.

Either way, its been a blessing in disguise as i now will have at least 3 different strains to enjoy, possibly a 4th if i dont cull off the sativas in flower because of the one that looks like crap. Going back to it, it comes down to variety. you just end up developing a tolerance to certain strains. I'm sure a nice sativa would knock me on my ass and have me throwing in the towel and raiding the fridge like a viking and passing out with all the remnants of my plundering all over myself, because all i have really smoked in the last.. 3-4 years has been kush and kush varieties. White Widow is a proven high grade strain. I think we will both like it. White Rhino is another very strong strain. Great white shark is again another strong white strain. All a wonderful and welcomed change of pace from the kush thats saturated the canadian west coast. I sure would love me some GS cookies tho!!!!

I could probably just read your first page, but what breeder are the White widow beans from?

The beans are from Amsterdam as in Amsterdam Seed Co. I'm not sure which website, I didn't order them, but it was White Widow, Carmelicious, and 20 bag seeds. If it really matters I can plug the wife, and after that ask her the question. Until a couple of weeks ago I had no idea there were at least 4 different strains going by the name White Widow.

BTW, did you check out Boveda & herbal in Google/YouTube? I believe they have the answer for keeping a full range of herbal varieties fresh on the shelf. :thumb:
Their head of marketing sounds so happy to have a foothold in the Medical Marijuana market. :peace:

I did actually check out Boveda website on their humidity packs. I gotta say i am very intrigued with what they can do. Specifically designed to keep your harvested buds fresh for up to a year?! thats just crazy talk! but also very intriguing talk!! I didnt see any videos however of them working/in use however so i'll keep my opinions contained until i see some results!

How long have you been getting the yellow leaves on the Widow? seems a little early for your plant to be sucking out the N and leaves dying off.. Maybe in a week or two and i wouldn't think anything of it. But my widows are 4.5 weeks in and i dont see a single yellow leaf anywhere yet... YET!!! not that yellowing leaves would really worry me now like they would say 4 weeks ago. If the growth is there and the plants are putting on the buds, then it must be alright your Widow is shedding her leaves

Cant wait to see my widows finished as i'm sure you are too. I'm way to excited to see my Widow mother go into flower after a 4+ month veg time! You sir are on your way to a fine looking harvest tho. Great job on your first indoor cannabis grow (since i know you garden outdoors, figured i would congratulate you on your indoor endeavor!!) YAY!!
