Radogast's First Indoor Seed Grow - In Search of Mothers

One photo is White Widow Denise who did a lot of stretch and is now bud building.
The other photo is Carmelicious Sassy who was shorter and bud building and is now starting to stretch :)

Hardly matters which is which (Denise then Sassy) :)

Thanks for the support. I've got peppers that died outside and seeds that just aren't germinating, but somehow this garden leads to anxiety.
The family is all watching. "Are you going to grow good medicine, or are we going to spend hundreds with dealers this summer?"
THEY are supportive and say "looking good!" My brain supplies the anxiety :(

Rad,
I know the feeling I'm the very same boat which is why I'm stressing over every little thing and when Canuck spotted the light leak I realized he was right and now I'm really praying they don't turn on me. I've since solved the issue but who knows. Anyway, yours look on time and the lower leaves aren't too much to worry about and it sounds like you've got it under control.

Don't worry about the leaves Rado, mine started to yellow and drop off at the bottom of the plant early in flowering every time i fed/watered them a handfull that were dead or hanging on would be picked off and mine are still alive and kicking one is 2 days away from harvest ! should see the state on that one,it had a cal/mag issue and never recovered,on the plus side it allows air to circulate better :cheesygrinsmiley:

Interesting I'm using Lucas and my plants basically look just like yours. I spend 30 min a day plucking dead/almost dead leaves.

Both of us are lacking nitrogen I believe. I'm doing a test this weekend by adding extra nitrogen to my formula.

My feeding strength has been 900-1100ppm @.5 conversion.

Nitrogen N Total 129.7
Phosphorus P 105.9
Potassium K 182.8

What I'm thinking is to raise nitrogen maybe 20 points, slowly so I don't burn, but without raising the other numbers, gonna be trickery, or we have to look at more nutes in our regiment. I know we use different nute lines bits the premises is the same. Find out what your npk numbers are and ppm/TDs. And try to monkey with our formulas. All you probably have to do is up your nutes. Do you have a TDs and a way to read pH?

Sorry babbling again. Hope ya find something useful and we both figure out our issues.

Cheers

Sorry mate I do not agree with you on that. Letting this go can lead to worse problems later on. No issues should just be left alone. That's not part of what were doing here. I'd like to smoke the best I can possabably grow with aiviable resources, don't you?

Dying leaves and neon green definitely shouldn't just be overlooked, or your quality and yield will suffer, I've seen it last round and I'm about to see it again because I was unable to fix it.

Cheers.

The fading and dieing leaves look normal to me. It's exactly what I have going on in my grow as well. A few of my leaves are fading faster than others. Mostly ones that were stressed with a deficiency or nute splash weeks before.

I don't think you want to over compensate by boosting N during flowering. Every feeding schedule I've researched suggests a diminishing Nitrogen level throughout flowering. At the very least, less than what is needed during peak veg growth.

If we were in a veg stage I would be inclined to take corrective action. For now I'd stay the course learning to decipher end of life fade progression vs deficiency.

I'm still a newb on my first grow so take this as opinion based more than experience based :)

Happy Growing!

:Namaste:

Without getting into it too deep. You are correct obi, but this is waaay too early, plants need there fan leafs till a certain stage, its called the nitrogen purge phase. Usually last 2 weeks of flowering, not last 30 days. So obviously we are all lacking nitrogen too early, and there is a way to correct, maybe not how I said, but it is able to be corrected. This is a problem and will effect yield, you can take that to the bank. I've seen it first hand in my own grow room lol

No offence obi but I'm speaking from expierence here. And you are right about not needing as much nitrogen. Just not this early.

Cheers brother!

Edit. I'm talking about the neon green to yellowing. Not early dead leafs. Leafs die all the time. Irrelevant.

Yea Rado, i'm gona go with Stumped on this one. My plants are 21 days into 12/12 today and I just did some defol on my widows and there were hardly many yellowing leaves. Just the ones way down near the bottom of the trunk. Maybe try to get a little more N and Cal/Mag in your feeding. Give them a good flush first, then readjust your feeding accordingly. Thats just my advice, please advise a more seasoned grower as to a remedy, but i'm thinking this might be what you'll get told.

Are the previous photos deceiving, or are they rather limey green in colour? (not the side shots you posted this morning) I can say for sure that my Widows are very lush green and dont seem to be losing any colour. I'm sure they will start to in the last half of flowering cycle.

Hey Radogast, are those 3 gallon pots you are using?

Your yellowing on the older leaves and lime or light green color of the tops makes me think a systemic issue is present and not just a deficiency. I think there could be a root issue.

My leaves aren't dark green, but they are darker than they appear on the cell phone flash. The colors are washed out a bit under 2 feet. I'll try to get true color long distance photo.

I had boys in the flower room for 10 days at 12/22. When I chopped than, the roots looked good.

I am in 5 gallon pots. In the repotting from 1/2 gallon to 5 gallon, I had a hard time finding decent soil, so I went with a no frills pro-mix and leftover potting soil. The basic pro-mix seems pretty useless except for adding water retention to clay soil. I will use garden dirt before using this again. I was hoping to make up the lack of nutrients with liquid nutes, but I moved too slow to get to full strength.

I was trying to add calmag but looked at the label again last night. What I thought was calmag plus micronutrients says it "promotes calmag uptake". Gdmn.
I need to find some actual calmag fast and don't know where to look!!

Hey Radogast. I'm subbed on non 420 and thought I was on this too, but no. All caught up now. Good work. Are you using any mycorrhizae and other beneficial microbes? They are my best friends.

I started out well with mycorrhizae. In my 2"x3" flats and transplant to 1/2 gallon I had mycorrhizae compost tea infused compost rich soil from the hydro store. In moving up to 5 gallon pots I found only get my hands on basic pro-mix which is
S, if I remember right, peat plus perlite plus lime. I mixed this 3 parts to 1 part leftover hydro soil. Not!!!! happy but I couldn't wait until the next weekend without risking becoming more pot bound. Since then I have been top dressing with Dr. Earth potting soil which is mycorrhizae rich. I've been hoping the little critters will move and multiply.

Thanks
Radogast

Amazon I've got quite a bit of stuff from there, reasonabably priced. Pretty sure that's where I got mine, that or eBay. My local hydro shop don't carry much. More of a smoke shop .

Unsulphered molasses contains cal and mag if your in a pinch. 1 tbs per gallon. I use it regularly between feedings.

Nice suggestion. Molasses is not do popular in Boston after the Great Molasses Flood in 1919.

Oh my god hahahha it did happen!
Well that sucks molasses is in shortage in Boston. Maybe that's why the bruins lost! Lol sorry I got family in Boston and we take stabs at em all the time over the bruins lol every time Boston would loose they had an excuse why. "Oh buddy had the wrong socks on, that's why we lost" lol

Cheers

You think that's funny, my Blues got the blues, They've never won a cup and didn't disappoint this year either. Every time they kick-ass during the reg season, they get their butts kicked in the play-offs. GO BLUES!

I use to be a blues fan in the 90s. Brett hull days, I don't even follow hockey much anymore. I was always a football fan, cfl lol laugh all you want I got a T-shirt that says it all. The CFL.... We've got bigger balls Hahahahah. Something like that.

To stay on topic... How's things over in your grow room? Gonna go have a look now.

Cheers.
