QT, I like the new light....it is a HUGE improvement. A 400 HPS is about 50,000 lumens, correct? your CFLs can't compare to that at all. And Your plants look fantastic! When are you going to start flowering? You should get some really good smoke from those girls. They are so nice and bushy. You should have quite a large sack of dank when this is completed. Oh, btw, I rated this thread a 5 star fwiw. I have never rated a thread before. I guess that I have just overlooked that feature on this site up until now.

As for the light, I can't wait til you get yours. I get excited now when anybody mentions getting a light...not humping like BID but I get moist like my plants...J/K...But after seeing Irish with his light, I knew I just had to get one. It wasn't easy on my fixed income but I did it. I think my bf was more excited than I was, if you can believe that. Saw the UPS guy before I did and beat me to the door...lol.. He is insisting that we get another one to replace the cfls for vegging.

Hey Queen

I think that light will pay itself off and then some!

I'm no expert but my thoughts on the slightly purpling stem is that it could easily be genetics, seeing it's bagseed. Colder temps could also be a signal, or deficiencies like nitrogen but you would notice extreme yellowing leaves as well.

Those are just my two cents, hopefully some pro's can chime in

Ok, let me answer everyone here....Miwa, that was a typo on my part. That was the temp for the sprouts not the ladies. The humidity was at 43.....Warrior and OMM, thanks for the +reps but I still have two little squares, do you have to get so many in order to get a rep? I still don't know how that works. And Aston, thanks for the rating of my journal. I hope others will rate it too, both of them...GG, well that was something I was thinking about. I do have a large fan that gives you the choice of intake and exhaust. I am hoping that will work. You can look in my journal or gallery for pic of the light. I had asked a question before in journal about using the fan but no one answered me. It is a rather large fan so I am thinking it will be able to handle the heat..

So here it is, it has finally arrived...the hps/mh 400w light...I gotta wait til lights come on to install it. Will take more pics once we have the light set up...It's on now......well the light isn't on yet but now it's on when it comes to flowering....lol

Miss Bud I was thinking mg deficiency so I gave a lil Epsom salt. But I value your input. And since it is bagseed didn't think about it being part of its DNA.

hey buddy i still think cfl is great theres no way i could keep my lings in a tote beside my bed with an hid light! im looking fwd to summer also now that i have strains that will finish before the first frost

so i am thinking you really dont need a big light for veg, lots of the pro growers prefer florescent lights for veg, because it does such a good job and saves alot of power consumption and $!!!,, jm2c

i dunno,,,i kinda think if you get one somehow you will figure out how to have it in play,a 400 can be as close as 10-12 inches and really dosnt put out that much more heat than a shitton of cfl's in my case 11 cfl's were keeping the closet warmer than the hps does! something to ponder buddy

There is definitely nothing wrong with adding a little epsom salts imho .An ounce of prevention right??

I believe a minor Mg deficiency will cause little or no problem with growth, and the first couple traits that should show are interveinal yellowing and irregular rust-brown spots.



Again, this is just my two cents and I'm sorry if I'm not that close to your problem but I am trying pretty hard to understand these stupid deficiencies lol.

That sacrifice will be payed for 420 fold because it is absolutely true that light=bud!!!

When I upgraded up from 8-42w CFL'S to 750w of HPS, it was a night and day difference in my bud production no doubt!

I would even suggest going to HD and looking in the "under cabinet lighting" section and looking for those tube style grow lights like I had so that you can place them around the walls for side lighting to compliment your 400w HPS.

Those lights are about 20" long (I think?) and work fantastic for side lighting and are awesome for cloning as well and the best part is that they only cost me around $12 each...which I bought 4 of them because of that good price...well worth it!!!

Let me know if you see them their next time you go because I want to know if all the HD stores carry them...ok?

In the mean time, I'll go back to my HD and see if they are still available as well.

I would almost promote these because of the great success I had with them and I'd like to see if it was just me or would everyone benefit from these things...we might even start a trend...who knows?

These lights even have both a blue and a red spectrum in one light and put off a purple color so, they almost look like LED's and will give your grow area a purple hew as well, and just look killer in a picture too

I guess they are like an aquarium light maybe? IDK? but they are cool! And they work great...so...?

Heck, at $12 each, we could just get one or two at a time as to not spend a fortune all at one time?

Good News!!! I just walked back in the door from going to Walmart and found out they have these lights too!!!

They are 24" florescent "Grow Lights" and they are 75w...this is great news! And the best part of all? These are only $11 each so, I'm super stoked about finding them for a dollar cheaper than HD!!!

I totally loved mine when I had them and I found all kind's of apps for them too..Mothers, clones, side lighting, stealth grows...pretty much endless apps for these and I still can't get over the price...way cheep!

I would think these would be much better than CFL's as well seeing how they seem to have both spectrum's...IMO

I'd like to see lots of people trying to find these and trying them out in various ways to see just how far the rabbit hole goes with them

Miss Bud---OMG girl, would you quit that, I have no problem with you giving me your input or advice. We are all here to learn and you're never too old to learn. I value your opinion like I do everyone else's. I did have a few brown spots before but I haven't seen any lately. And there hasn't been any yellowing of the leaves.

Oh, I just love you guys...Ok, really nothing to update. Everything is running smoothly. Gave the ladies some water along with nutes, since I made a new batch I upped the dose. The thing about it is I don't understand the ml to tsp or tbs ratio. I tried looking it up to convert ml to tsp or tbs to only find some crazy looking numbers that seem to go on for an eternity...So, if Aston our visual aids guy could possibly find me a conversion chart....me love you long time...rofl...Or anyone who may have one. Well I messed around today and spilled a great deal of my BPN nutes out by accident. I went to shake up the bottle and forgot I had loosened the lid...That's what I get for smoking that doobie right before lights came on...lol...Uh, let's see room temp is 78 and the humidity is 44. I also lowered the light to 10 inches now.

So, really I guys, when I say I value your input, I really do and I usually act on what you guys tell me. You guys are the greatest and I am so glad I found this site.

As for the light you are talking about, do you think they have this online? Because the HD's around here never seem to have anything I need. And there isn't even a Wally World anywhere near me. Maybe you can check that out for me or post a pic of the light you're talking about.

Look back up at post #517 and go to the link and see if there's a way to order them...but the shipping cost will probably be more than the light it's self...IDK?

It would still not hurt to look at your HD anyway, because with these lights, along with your new one, you can place these along the wall's at the bottom of your plant canopy to get light to the lower limbs and therefore, producing more bud at the bottom, where as, the light from the top will usually have a hard time reaching the lower branches...understand now?

You can actually increase your bud production on the bottom limbs that usually only produce very little bud, which is in turn, getting the absolute most from your girls.

This is the app that I used these lights for, with great results.

Then, I tried them with clones and seedlings, with equally great results

Now, that's not to say you can't still use the CFL's you have now for this purpose as well though.

I've always tried to get more from those lower branches myself, because I just want to get 420% of what ever I can get from my girls...personally.

Well, I did everything that I was suppose to when it came to starting a clone. I attempted 2 clones, one from plant one and the other from plant 2. For some reason after making the cut clone1 immediately began to wilt..Why is that? I put it in water with the hydrogen peroxide immediately after cutting it. I made sure I didn't forget to scrape it, cut it up the middle and everything..*pouting*...But clone2 seem to be just fine, no drooping or anything. I remembered about cutting the leaves in half but do you have to do it to all the leaves or just one? So, I am hoping for a miracle that clone 1 will perk back up. And I used Clonex rooting gel. Somebody tell me what I did wrong?
