Psychoactive Mushrooms & Cacti Discussion

The grains do look a bit dark have no idea if that is bad or not.. wondered if the water would just steam up under the tin foil on top of lids. Maybe the foil wasn't tight enough around the lids. Good to know about the heating mat.. was gonna use a seedling heating mat but it might get too hot.

Yea jus make sure u got a temp guage in there or i jus use my hygrometer an make sure to check on it every now n then so it dnt spike n if it does turn it down or off idk what ur mat is like but my pad allows to change temps so i jus played with each setting seeing where it sits at N the middle setting so medium temp an it sits at per fect range. But yea man idk as for the lids i was thinking about sterilizing some new grains an then putting the tinfoil on top again but maybe use like a rubber band or maybe tape idk what wud work 2 seal them in better so no moisture gets up but yea i had a feeling it was guna get up there i was like the whole entire inside is all steam how can it not lol.
I'm technically in the country but less than 1/8 mile in any direction I can be in 3 different city limits. I have a half acre lot on a small cul de sac and I'm within a 5 min drive of anything I need. Not exactly the country living I grew up with in MN where we have about 1,000 acres to run around on the farm but it's better than living in a development in the city. I wish I had a 5 acre lot but unless you want to be in the open desert it will cost you your first born where I'm at.

Hey bud i was wondeding do these not look right to u this is after i pc the jars.

There got moisture on the lids an the grains an like chunky sticking together in clumps an stuff i was thinking maybe a rubber band or tape to hold the tinfoil in place n not let stem hit the lids again n jus reboil some grains an try this again what do u think.

The wet polyfill tells me you got the inside wet which is why the grains clumped. The extra water helped gelatinize the grains into clumps. I don't think you will be able to get them to work, I've never worked with something like it however. I think you did everything right up to the PCing, get the foil really crunched around the lid of the jar. Your grains were pretty dry going in so there wouldn't have been enough water inside the jar to steam and soak the polyfill like it was. It had to have come from the foil.

Next go around you'll get it and you'll be a pro at it.

Had someone ask me about spore prints and how you make syringes. Here's a video I enjoy but it doesn't describe what he is doing nor is he doing any sort of sterile procedure (which is fine but increases your chance of contaminates in your syringe and therefore your future grain spawn) so I will describe below the video how to add a few more sterile steps to decrease your chances of contaminates.

  • First off do everything you saw in the video inside a SAB,
  • Wipe down everything with iso,
  • PC a few half pint jars of water (using as many jars and as much water as you require),
  • Boil some water to rinse out new syringes with (suck up the boiling water and squirt out a few times),
  • Use a flame sterilized knife, scalpel, razor, or whatever when scraping the spores off the print, and
  • Use the half pint jars of PC'd water only when cool then scrape the spores inside to be sucked up with the syringe. This is why it's good to have an idea of how many syringes you are going to make so you can measure out the amount of water you need before PCing. Use 1 jar per strain and as many or even bigger jars if you plan to make a big batch of syringes.

Wud u suggest i use a rubber band or tape or sumthn to seal the tinfoil better?

Yeah I had watched that one. A few things they didn't explain, Like where did the liquid come from that was in the syringes

Do u think i maybe put to much water in the pc wen i went to pc the jars?

I don't think so, looking at your one photo it looks like you had some of your foil down the side of the jar making a nice space for steam to go up. Only have the foil go around the lid, it makes it easier to seal vs the smooth sides of the jar.

Oh ok kool thanx an an when i boil the grains how long shud i boil them for again was it 120 minutes or was tht the timer for the pc sry i forgot to write it dwn in my personal journal here with me lol.

Here is the fully colonized grains.

My second round of inoculations is starting to grow mycelium.

Here is the metabolites aka mycelium piss.

Now the bad stuff. Here is a contaminate similar looking to mycelium but more grey in color and wispy. The grains are also wet and dark looking, even clumping from a possible second contaminate by the smell of yeast.

This is the bad with very wet and dark looking grains that are slimy and sticking together. This bag smells highly of yeast.

These grains were not wet before inoculating and you can actually see dry grains around the areas of contamination.

You can always slap micropore tape over it or even regular tape. Yeah with the larger gauge needles make sure it closes back up.

The one bag shot is gorgeous seeing the nice mycelium spread out like that, even the backside is just 3 or 4 blobs together, very cool. Most of the bags from my second round of inoculations are like that, just a nice round spot on the front and a bunch on the back or bottom growing. Probably won't be long before I'm mixing them up.

Still no iso, just wrapping up burning one in the garden and I'm going to go try the Spanish speaking side of town over where I used to live. I stick out like a sore thumb, 6' 3" gringo literally the only white guy ever in the store or waiting in line on Friday morning with a soup pot to get menudo for the upcoming weekend hangover.
