Prof's Lab: Diary Of A Bedroom Farmer

The 200w coco grow is on flowering day 61 today and feelings are a bit mixed. Some plants are doing great but some just feel a bit slow. The Phantom Cookies Domina looks like its still only just beginning but at the same time looks like the fade is beginning to set in. It is still firing out pistils and barely any are changing colour. The French Macaron has a similar feel but this one looks like it just needs to swell a little. It also looks like it will be the smallest plant except for the Double D's. DD's had the worst start though and I'm sure it will be a good plant if grown properly. The StarCake feels a little "meh" but the end result may change that. I shouldn't put her down quite yet. It is just a feeling.
The rest are all making me very happy lol. It is strange as there is this divide in the grow. I know that it is coincidental as there is no difference in the quality of regular and feminized seeds but the regs in this case are all considerably better than the fems. The smell of all of the regular strains which incudes the Hoe Down, Double D's and the 2 Crumbled Lime's is far superior. It is difficult to say which one I like most but all 4 are really good. The plants also seem a bit faster and look a week or so ahead of the fems. They have more frost on larger flowers though its not the end yet. finally they just look better in general. Like I said, all of this is coincidental but it was an observation I have made.
I'm struggling to make any harvest predictions with this one some of the plants look like they could finish up in a couple of weeks and some look like they might have as long as a month left. I'm not waiting a month. I have autos to run!....

I get that feeling mid way through flower until harvest week. Look good from here mate. Chin up soon be done and hitting the new ones with flowering.

That oil looks pretty damn amazing. I really need some ethanol. I only have ISO at the moment and I dont have much of that left. I have 4 grinders that need a good clean and could probably get a decent smoke from each of them.

I'll be over to check out your Purple Punch harvest later today. I really like the PP and since harvesting the Barneys strains it is probably my new favourite. I was leaning towards the Shishkaberry at first but have changed my mind. The Shish is a great all-round strain but the PP is special. Proper funky smoke.

Hope your well today TC

All is good around here Prof. thank you and I am sorry for your loss :(

As far as I know the residue from iso alcohol is harmful for us. These tiny amounts are better consumed from ethanol(grain alcohol). I just tried iso once and didn't like the taste much. Ethanol really makes difference. I filtered the particles out for this batch and the color is pretty nice. When it comes to nug extraction, butane is also safe if you do it right(purging properly) but I like to use ethanol even when I get crude oil with butane. Only problem with the ethanol is that it dissolves chlorophyll too. Using butane first eliminates the majority of the present chlorophyll and you get a very similar kind of extract except a slightly lighter color. Using the stuff on our hands or kief/pollen is also a way to eliminate a lot of chlorophyll to get greater results with ethanol.

Sorry to read this buddy. Thankfully peaceful way to leave this plain. Brings mortality home to roost too. We are so lucky to beneath each day with our loved ones. Be strong mate
Thanks GG. It does indeed make you think. I went to school with him and then after that did loads of partying and had a lot of good times. It wasn't until a few years ago that we parted ways and got on with our different lives. About a decade ago we went to a wine festival in Spain together. There was apparently 3 million litres of wine to throw away at the end of each season so they have a festival and give it easy for free. There was a carnival with floats that had wine cannons going through the town and they just spray the crowds lol. It was the most fucked up I've ever been in my life lol. That was a crazy holiday. One of the things which stuck in my mind was the terrible organisation of Spanish supermarket shelves. We went down one isle and they had tinned fish, Tupperware and animal porn all on the same shelf. Oh we laughed lol. Its surprising that I can remember any of that but I'm glad I do. Good times with a good mate
Damn buddy, what's amiss. Not like you to struggle so much with getting moving??. Fingers , legs , toes and eyes crossed for you now mate.
Lol. You couldn't make it up! First to go was the Kandy Kush which we went through the whole Top Trumps ordeal for. I thought I'd perhaps overwatered her but then more started looking suspect and then I knew something was wrong. Then one of the Caramelo's went down and that one wasn't even sharing a tray with what I thought were the infected seedlings. Then other plants like the courgettes started dropping off as well. Then it took most of the clones with the exception of the Critical Jacks and then finally the last Caramelo lol. It was a catastrophic disaster! Fungus spores must have Fungus spores must have come in through window. Its the only thing I can think of. I resisted the urge to drop more seeds and will focus on cleaning up and getting ready for the Barney's autos.

Were already almost a week into the next flowering run. I'm using the 100w light again but this time with just 4 plant in a more conventional way. I'm still being a filthy bottom feeder though.

I looked at ethanol online and it is really expensive. Because its classed as alcohol that you would find in beverages it has a high tax. I looked around my house in the chance that there was some just lying around lol. I found some methylated spirit which I'm sure I don't need to google to know that its not a good idea lol

Silver bullet mist will kill everything in the room of you mean for a cleaner.?.

I have a buddy like that , he is still single now and loves his life and own company too but we spent a few years hitting the party scene when silver haze was being moved around from the first skunk growers. We had times that could never be lost or forgotten and definable as never repeatable too. Memories are as real as the physical when we lose someone. We are just a bunch of chemical signals and wavelengths. My mum still bugs me from the grave when I know she would not approve of an action or behaviour. She leaves me feathers in odd places around the house when she has been too. Never leave us just step aside in bandwidth slightly mate.

Glad to see survivors and growing green still too. Universe wants you to grow something planned and special!!. She is making way that's all.

I mean a general clean down in general. I can't afford silver bullet at the moment but I still have one last refill's worth of ISO which I use as a general purpose cleaner.

Thanks for the kind words GG

The latest round are coming to a close now and I wouldn't be surprised if I decided to tackle it next weekend. The only one which is lagging now is the Phantom Cookies Domina but she is looking better. It's just all those white hairs lol. Shes starting to swell like crazy as well which is nice to see. I have some nice pics coming up of what is currently happening.

Good day everyone. Today we have had some gardening disasters but thankfully not cannabis related this time though I did have to bring the auto inside. We've had 40mph winds and the plants outside took a battering. The auto looked like it was going to get ripped from the pot so it is currently taking some time out in the porch. Back in the bedroom garden everything is good again. Everything seems to be going smoothly again after the brief episode of drama. The 200w grow is on the last stretch now and I don't think that they'll be much longer. Couple weeks tops. There are some pretty colours and some even prettier smell in there now. In a previous post I dissed the StarCake for being a bit boring and then after that apologised as it seemed a bit better. Well now I'm going to praise it lol. It has suddenly developed a lovely scent and has bulked up considerably over the last few days. The flowers are looking nice as well. Patience is all I need. The Double D's has also decided to throw out a load of fresh hairs and has swelled considerably in a short space of time. Man it stinks!
I do have a small concern at the moment though. The humidity has just spiked since yesterday and I think it might be reading around 70% at lights out. I'm hoping the weather changes again soon but the forecast says that it is bad again tomorrow. I'm just going to keep a close eye on things and hope for the best as I really don't want to be harvesting now.
So, here we are today on flowering day 68. 7 unflushed, bottom fed, 200w grown little lovely's....

Indeed. A gal. of ethanol would last forever though. Making kief first saves you a lot of alcohol. I say get a gal. and forget about it :blunt: I got one litre of ethanol and have been using it for two years

Maybe one day when this mess is over and work is back to normal. For now though I'm trying to spend as little as possible. In fact. I don't think I've spent any money on growing since starting this journal. I have enough nutes to last me for some time yet and I can keep reusing the coco so provided the lights don't fail me I can keep growing without spending anything for some time.

The super-cropping seems to have worked out well for the plants in the 100w grow. The Hashplant D branch which I snapped recovered over night so we didn't loose it after all and most of the branches which were bent down have stayed there. The lower growth is already benefitting and is growing to fill the gaps....

Same will happen here. I got myself gal. size nutes and won't be visiting the hydro store in near future for buying.

However I have to visit them to make some business. We will keep things local first but who knows, maybe we can go wild and be a sponsor here ourselves. We've just managed to build our first prototype of LED boards yesterday and it will be completely ready in two weeks. I am really excited these days and will be demonstrating these lights on some dedicated journals soon. This puppy will become a modular 60W full spectrum grow light and be based on a mid. power design with top quality Samsung diodes covered with top quality lenses. We will use the new Meanwell XLG series to drive these boards.

A sneak peek for you guys;

Peace :passitleft:

Very nice. I didn't realise that you made lights. Have you mentioned that before? Apologies, I'm particularly slow for a couple weeks after a harvest lol

I thought I could show you all just how much salt I've managed to accumulate on the surface of the coco. Before I was concerned about it building up but now I couldn't care less. Just look at that!....

Ouch! The plants are still happy though there is a tiny bit more tip burn now. I think it will need a very good flush before the next round of plants are put into it though.

I've studied electronics but I have a different job. I've started this project as a hobby and maybe not in your threads but I have been whispered about that a couple times in several journals of mine. Getting these stuff done is extremeley hard in where I live because these lights must be designed for marijuana and therefore the components are both expensive, hard to access and build. That is why I haven't talk about that project much.

But now that I have a solid evidence of what I am trying to build, I will start to share the whole process here as a journal. We are aiming to distribute to EU and when we accomplish that I can probably afford being a sponsor here. We are almost ready to test our base model and we will get our 660-730 and 470nm diodes ready to be used for flower and veg. boosted boards in a couple of weeks. We will compare the results between full spectrum, 3000K and 3500K boards as well. We believe full spectrum plus red or blue boost, depending on the growth stage, provides the best results. We will add daisychain function and probably some optional wireless features as well. These will definately be top notch products.

Peanut!
I've missed you. :hugs:
I have been super busy lately.
My apologies for being absent.

Homeschooling is almost done. I should have more time to bop around the forums soon.

I love the idea of making a DIY grow light but like you said, the price of high quality components is too much for me. I remember reading a lot of comments where people were trying to sell the idea as being a much cheaper way of obtaining an excellent quality LED growlight. I dont think that it is really and probably works out the same. If I was better at DIY I would probably have a different opinion though lol

I've missed you too! Same here apart from the home schooling. I would have thought that I would have more free time with having no work but apparently not.
I'll be over to check out what you've been up to shortly m'dear

Perfecto, as my dad used to say :).

Have I missed any harvests?
Not quite. The Barneys strains were harvested in the Barneys tread though.

There was a little hiccup recently in which every seedling including the Big Toof were killed by the damping off fungus. I said in a post to GG earlier that both of the Caramelo's were taken but I forgot that a giant slug came through the window and ate one of them lol. It has been an exciting couple of weeks. We're back in control again but that game of top trumps was all for nothing now lol
