Panama x Malawi - Probiotic & Organic Indoor Soil Grow

Well, my colloidal silver doesn't seem to be turning these plants male very much... Just got some little flowers forming. I switched the CMH tent to 11/13 this morning. They're not really doing so well, but can't really delay it any longer. So hopefully the plants under the T5 will sprout some male flowers soon, but I don't think I've been using strong enough CS or at the right frequency. Thinking about rigging up some supplemental florescent light in there, but I don't know how soon I'll have to start running my air conditioners and don't want the added wattage loading my circuits.

Still trying to get use to this new forum software, so aggravating.

I’ve had much better luck with Silver Thiosulphate than I have CS.
Yeah that seems much more complicated to get put together than CS though. I don't really have a proper space to mix the stuff up besides my kitchen, and have pets and stuff, and from what I've heard it's not really safe to handle?

It’s just 2 chemicals, they were used in the film developing industry. You don’t want to breathe them in powder form but once they are in solution there’s little risk.

Seems like there's some difference in opinion on how easy they are to get as well? Not to mention the cost... I kind of liked the CS because it was just putting two electrodes in water, but I Just didn't prepare enough this time :/

You need at least 50ppm CS or more to be successful, the stronger the better
I had pretty good success with 30 ppm, but it's just when I'm making it at home I can't really make large enough quantities each day to spray the plants enough with it. The last time I did it I was smart enough to build up a supply beforehand. So I'm probably going to just build up a supply in a little hairspray bottle for a few days, but the problem is that it's only coming out at like 20 ppm recently, so I think I may have missed my window to make stuff strong enough before they get too far into flower :/

Hey there Fert... ever think about LED.. I'm doing better gm/watt than most HID growers! Just sayin...
i wouldn't say that unless true. The HID is about maxed out...and less efficient. When tasked with efficiency + heat, I changed to LED. I knew it would evolve.

There are some really nice inexpensive panels out there that everyone likes.

Plants look healthy... keep doin what you're doing. Colloidal silver not safer than STS. They both can be fatal to pets and prolly kids. Safe storage and safe usage. Spills get cleaned up pronto. Don't let pets into your grow space with that stuff in use.

STS can be used 1x a day everyday for a week .. then male bits show is my understanding. I have ingredients in hand just haven't tried it yet. Soooo many seeds sooo little time.

Lol those are just the other girls under the T5, I'm not showing the ones under the CMH to hide my shame haha

I thought about LED but the thing is that there's too many different ranges of options. There's the cheap China ones that everyone has different opinions on how well they work, all the way up to the COBs and stuff like that which I'll never be able to afford. I looked into CMH instead but it's not really having its chance to shine given my screwup with the soil.

Give it time brother. You know what you did wrong with your soil, sucks a little now but we all learn from our mistakes. I hear good things about the CMH so looking forward to see what you can do.

We all gotta dance with what brought us there!!

Yeah so far I'm pretty impressed with what it's done despite the bad soil problem, to be honest. I've had it at the maximum tent height and the structure of the plants--even the JHA--just keep on growing with no stretch. The penetration is pretty impressive. I keep wanting to switch out the ones that are under the T5 out under the CMH to see how they do lol

But yeah I'm pretty much clueless to what specifically I did to this batch that screwed it up so much. I still have the 18 gallons of good stuff I can recycle, but still need to make some more if I'm going to be running in 10 pots at a time. I was wanting to shutdown for the summer anyway, too dang hot, and trying to find a new place where running a moderate amount of modern electrical appliances isn't a monumental feat.

Little pic update of the CMH plants. They're sure awfully yellow. Had to pick a lot of dead leaves out.

I had an interesting surprise with my little resevoir today as well. Turns out that after I turned off the pump, there was enough of a vaccum and to hold the water column in the riser and act as a little siphon for the last day. It slowly dripped about 1.5 gallons into two of the pots, but oddly the others didn't go so much. This is rater interesting and if it was repeatable behavior it might actually be useful; I could run the pump to prime the water column, and then allow the plants to siphon off water as needed like one of those little water-spikes in the interim. What really surprises me is that the plants didn't seem to mind that much water, which in my experience should have made them a little droopy. I think maybe it's the fact it was spread out over a long duration. In any event, it happened because I closed the valve on the reciculation line, which enabled a vaccum to form and keep that water collumn in the riser.

Long story short, if anyone was following along with my watering systems, make sure you add in a recirculation line so you don't end up with a siphoning situation.

It's got me rethinking the Blumats again. I had decided against them because I wasn't sure cannabis would like its feet kept wet all the time, but the plants didn't really seem to mind their extra watering today... Then again that could be because they were just thirsty. *shrugs* Things are too expensive anyway.

I run an automated watering system that waters from the btm up. What I do is put about a 2" layer of clay balls in the btm of the pot then soil on top. Plants love it... they send special roots down thru the clay and mainline the water. Your plants prolly drank what they needed and I'm always surprised how much they take up in flower.

They are weeds.. they can tolerate a wide range of conditions... we just want them to be happy so we get a reward at the end of the day..

Your plants are coming along... they will do fine.

I've just been busy tucking things in under the net. I'm not really trying for a scrog here, just trying to keep the tops from becoming too tall. I'm more or less just bending them over a little bit, guesstimating how tall they'll be when they bend back up. I'll only be able to do it so many times before they start flowering heavily and then I'll probably just let them do what they want, because I have a feeling they won't get too close to the light since that middle plant got converted to the little baby Jack.

The forum upload software for some reason didn't re-orient these right-side-up when I uploaded :/

I understand the point of the scrog. To keep the canopy level. But i like to rotate my girls every couple of days . Usually adjust the pipe cleaners a bit to keep them even. In affect a scrog with out the net? Just feel like the net would get in my way.
Yeah I haven't been rotating them ever since I put the net in. I'm not really sure what you mean by doing it with pipe cleaners. Do you just tie one end to the branch and then tie it down to the stalk further down?
