Outdoor Growing With BeezLuiz

Happy New Year everyone!
Before I get started with the next seeds getting soaked, I want to summarize last season's grow. It was the first time I've tried growing indoor and the first time I've grown plants from a cloning attempt. All in all, it was a very busy year and much learning occurred.

I grew three autos - mostly indoor. American Pie from Pyramid Seeds which was mostly sativa (white widow x power plant); Zamaldelica from Ace Seeds which was also mostly sativa (Zamaldelica (Zamal x Malawi/Thai) elite x (Malawi x Northern Lights Auto); Gorilla Cookies from Fast Buds which was a 50/50 hybrid (Gorilla Glue x Girl Scout Cookies).

Here's the yield info:

Yields would have been much better, but they suffered from aphid and caterpillar infestations. Surprisingly I only had bug issues with the (mostly) indoor plants. I found the bud structure on each of these was very dense and frosty compared to my previous outdoor grows. I used the NextLight Core that I won in a plant of the month contest last year. I think it was the biggest factor for the improved buds since I fed them all about the same as the outdoor plants. Thank you @NextLight :thanks:

I started 6 photoperiod plants for my son's outdoor grow: Red Dragon; Zkittles; Amnesia; Dresden Green Diamond, OG Kush, and Gelot.OG. His favorites to smoke so far are Amnesai and OG Kush. I've tried the OG Kush, and it's nice, but I haven't sampled the others yet.

For my outdoor plants, I decided that two was enough for me. They were both from @Weed Seeds Express : Purple Haze which was mostly sativa (Haze x Purple Thai) and Granddaddy Purple which was mostly indica (Big Bud x Purple Urkle).

Both turned out above my expectations. The plants were so healthy start to finish and yields were grand.

I'm really enjoying the GDP right now - it's fast becoming my "go to" smoke for most occasions. After a pruning session in July, I decided to take some of the GDP cuttings and see if they would sprout roots. I just dipped the ends in some powdered rooting hormone and stuck them in a solo cup with seedling soil. I watered them, put a dome on top, and stuck them under my lights. About 3 or 4 weeks latter I noticed some new growth. :yahoo:

I eventually transplanted them into 1/2 gallon pots and then into 3 gallon pots a few weeks later. I kept them under the lights until harvest. These buds were the frostiest buds I've grown to date, and they were rock-solid. One of them earned me "NotM" honors for December!

Here's the yield summary of which I call "bonus buds", because I didn't really expect the cuttings to root.

Soon, I plan take some samples in to a test lab near me (in Berkeley). I'm not quite sure what samples I will ultimately choose, but likely will be the two outdoor buds and some kief I recently collected using the dry ice method. I'll be sure to post once I take them in.

Happy New Year to you too BeezLuiz!

Congratulations on everything (from the win to the successful growing/havest/cloning)!

And what an amazing post. From bean popping, to protective netting to sponsor prizes. I'm not sure where to start so I'll end with :cheer: :circle-of-love:

Thanks Rexer, I really appreciate the kind words. I'm hoping this year brings more of the same fun. :Namaste:
Great harvests and beautiful plants, and you know I'm looking forward to the lab tests. PM me with their price list when you get a moment as I'll be doing some more testing this year.
Thanks Shed! I got an email from the testing lab a few weeks ago. Evidently the largest testing lab in Nevada (their claim) just bought the one I was going to in Berkeley, so prices and services may be changing. I'll let you know once I contact them.

While it's still too early to start my outdoor plants, I felt my indoor light has been "off" for too long. I'm starting 3 autos that I haven't tried yet: Glueberry OG from Dutch Passion, Lemon, and Northern Lights from some seed bank sent as freebies. I've grown Northern Lights before, but not an auto version of it. I'm hoping it's as good as the one I grew in 2019.

I also have more than 100 seeds from my son's Alaska Purple that was pollenated by some unknown male in his neighborhood. Just as a test, I dropped about a dozen of the "worst looking" seeds just to see if they would germinate. I don't think I will actually grow any of them if they do. Lastly, I'm also soaking 3 of my Zamaldelica Auto x White Widow x Unknown because I'm really curious if these will be autos or photoperiod.

:fingerscrossed:

Don't you love experiments!! Happy Smokin'

Good luck on the seed drop, Beez!

Indeed I do! That's why I became and engineer. :)
Good luck on the seed drop, Beez!
I usually do pretty well on the dropping part. Unfortunately, finding them once they drop is a bit of a challenge. :laughtwo: Just today, I was putting my Northern Lights into soil. It had cracked and sprouted a nice tail. I was trying to shake it out of the jar and into the solo cup. It came out of the jar, but I have no idea where it went! I searched for a good 20 minutes and never found it. I'm hoping it fell into the soil, but not sure. If something pops up in 2 or 3 days I'll be supper happy and surprised. :hmmmm:
Those seeds should be top shelf, as in top shelf of the cabinet by the tomato paste!
That's exactly where I put them! :cheesygrinsmiley:
This is why we tell people not to leave their males growing somewhere (like in the woods) rather than binning them.
It happened to him two seasons in a row, although last year wasn't quite as bad.

Those seeds will be great for a winter indoor grow. I can't wait to see!!

Highya Beez,

Loved the story about seed dropped somewhere!! Sounds like something I'd do! That's why I got a good chuckle out of it! Happy Smokin'

Germination Update: Looks like I got 100% germination success for all the auto seeds. :woohoo:
The Glueberry and Zamaldelica x What Widow (will now be known as "White Zeldica") went into soil a couple days ago. And yesterday, the Lemon auto and Northern Lights auto went into solo cups.

This morning I see the Glueberry and one of the White Zelicas trying to sprout already.

Of the 12 inferior-looking Alaska Purple seeds that I soaked, two of them actually germinated and had pretty nice looking tails. I decided not to plant them, so into the trash they went. If I decide to grow that variety, I'll choose some nicer seeds and do it closer to Spring time - not enough room in my indoor grow space with what I've got going now.

I've gotten that before...but only after I kill the first two.... :hmmmm:

Congrats on the sprouts, Beez!

Oh no Beez! I had this exact same thing happen to me, with a - wait for it… northern lights! :laughtwo: Mine didn’t pop up, but I hope yours does. Congrats on the 100% germ, that’s exciting! Happy to see you with babies growing again Beez :cheesygrinsmiley:

Oh good. This looks like a good time to start following along since you're just at the seedling stage.

And, I see you use spreadsheets, too. :nerd-with-glasses: Nice work.

Here's a shot of my Winter 2020 auto run. 5 of 6 have sprouted. :) For some reason, the Lemon Auto hasn't popped up yet. The seed had cracked open, but the tap root was barely visible when I planted it, so I'll give it one more day before digging it up.
Mine didn’t pop up, but I hope yours does.
It did!! A little off-center, but it made it to the soil after all. Here's a proof of life pic.

And, I see you use spreadsheets, too. :nerd-with-glasses:
:welcome: HashGirl! Yes indeed, I use spreadsheets quite a bit. I track just about everything in spreadsheets: growth rates, yields, seed inventory, grow costs, and even recipes. :slide:

I'm that way, too. I don't track food recipes but I do track the recipes I make with cannabis. I also track my doses, books, movies, fitness and my weight in Excel. I  Excel.
