OG Kush Round 2- In Soil - 1000Watt HPS - GH utes - CO2- Flipped Now- Going For 1LB!?

Re: OG Kush Round 2- In Soil - 1000Watt HPS - GH utes - CO2- Flipped Now- Going For 1

Yeah, I didn't think so. But thought I'd ask anyway. I saw some guy transfer his plants from soil to hydro on here a while back. If I remember he didn't have much success. He was straight rinsing them out under the kitchen tap then right into Hydroton. The plants were stressed the fuck out, and I think only one survived.
I'll just have to wait til the next round to try DWC. I'll build up my gear through this next one so I'll be ready to go come cloning time in rockwool, then into nets!

Thanks again mate..

I always start my seed in soil then transfer to hydro. The key for me has been doing it as early as I can
and getting all of the soil off of the roots. If you leave anything visible, especially wood particles,
stuck to the roots you are asking for rot. I think that is what caused the problem with the guy you
spoke of. I wouldn't try it with plants as big big as those. Yes you can definitely start in soil then
finish in hydo. I've done it for years.

Thanks for that oldman,
I was hoping someone that's actually done it before would chime in.:thumb:

Re: OG Kush Round 2- In Soil - 1000Watt HPS - GH utes - CO2- Flipped Now- Going For 1

yeah but why would u do that mate? when u place a cutting or seed in soil first the roots develop completely differently than they would for dwc. Im certain its possible to do but if u know u are growing hydro, why start in soil and not rockwool, jiffy pellets or an aero cloner? it just doesnt make sense to do. It means for atleast the first week of transplant the plant will have to focus on sprouting new roots that can cope with a dwc grow. If it needs to be done in an emergency then fine but to make it regular practice would be silly in my opinion, especially wen rockwool cubes are as cheap as they are.

Wow those starters look amazing, what kinda light are they under?? Oh and I just put up my journal if you want to pop over and see it. :thumb:

Thanks D,
Welcome to 420 magazine and my grow.
The babies are under a Sunblaze 4 light 4foot T5, and a DIY CFL 10 light (42watts each bulb) bank I made for my first grow.
The growth under my DIY light is producing way healthier and bushier plants than the T5 in my opinion.

Thanks Whiz!
I just started using Superthrive in my baby food.
My babies have always been pretty healthy, but I find adding superthrive really gives them that B vitamin boost they need in veg.

Re: OG Kush Round 2- In Soil - 1000Watt HPS - GH utes - CO2- Flipped Now- Going For 1

I haven't notice any real difference in the development and growing time doing it that way.
I've used both rock wool and jiffy pellets and don't like like them for multiple reasons. That's just my opinion.
It works for fine for me. I would never call other methods silly. Seems a little arrogant to me.

Re: OG Kush Round 2- In Soil - 1000Watt HPS - GH utes - CO2- Flipped Now- Going For 1

To each their own.
Everyone has their methods that work for them, and maybe not for others..
I just think Cultivator believes your creating unwanted stress on the roots, when you could just pick one way from the start..
Makes sense to me, but then again MJ is a pretty tough plant and can shake off almost anything too..
For people that are growing commercially. Time is money, and I think just having to wait an extra week for things to heal, or overcome stress, costs too much.
Glad I don't have that problem..lol

Thanks for the welcome, and I just added the link to my journal. I think seeing your plants under the T5 has convinced me to go ahead and jump on a T5, i was considering overdriving my T8 and T12 but id rather not risk the bulb explosions lol

All i saying is why develop and condition plant for one environment with the intention of switching to something completely different. it definately does have an effect. im pleased it works for u, but if it was the best way everyone would do it. maybe i am a little arrogant but i have alot of experience, however i didnt mean to offend u.

Re: OG Kush Round 2- In Soil - 1000Watt HPS - GH utes - CO2- Flipped Now- Going For 1

Cool thanks C.
Does your medium come out the holes??
Or does everything stay pretty contained.
The reason I was interested in these over the airpots is they come in way bigger sizes.
I think they only make airpots in max 7.5L?

I'm sure they come in much bigger sizes. I've seen bigger - even much bigger sizes before. Old Med Man knows a ton about air pots and I'm sure he frequently uses bigger than that (or did...). Though, with airpots you don't need huge pots to grow large plants due to the way the pots allow for more lateral rooting.

Ok C.
You made some very good points.
Just one more question and then I'll shut up.
If I did go DWC in 5, 5 gallon buckets. Then I'm probably not going to be able to transfer my "soiled" clones into clay pebbples and nets. Right? Which means having to clone off the clones that I have and start over. Which I don't have time for. I've been training these current clones to have some serious tops. That's why I was opting to go HUGE with my pots to allow them to blow up.
gunna post up some photos of the next generation that's next in line..

Sure, soil clones can work in hydro with a little work, but it's not an ideal way to go in my opinion. I'd rather see you take cuttings from your soil clones and use them for your hydro grow, personally. Rapid Rooters work very well for cloning, and you can use them for soil or hydro. They are nearly foolproof, too. Many good ways to clone, as long as it's consistent and reliable!

Yes, it would create a little more delay, so maybe this is something you time for the round after next? Take some cuttings a few weeks ahead of time with the thought of them being for your hydro grow?

Sorry your exhaust fix didn't work out. I think the 2 exhausts would be the way if you could do it, but sounds like that won't work (bummer!). I really like my GroLab tent, because it has TONS of exhaust vent places and portholes, etc. Gives you some options...

Things are looking great with the plants!! :high-five:

There he is!
Mr DWC himself!
Thanks for the rep brother.
I wish I could just clone these babies then jump right in with DWC. It's just a time thing. Too much downtime to get new clones ready for the DWC. That and all the work I have done topping and training these babies would be wasted..
Think I'm pretty much decided that I'm going to do one last soil (kinda) grow (Coco/perlite big airpots) Take cuttings right after flip, then I'll have lots of time to train 5 of those clones in 5 gallon DWC's. And try to have everything dialed in before bringing them into the flowering tent.
I'm just so anxious to see what these OG's can do in a Hydro medium! Since these OG's seem to finish in 60 days, it would really pack some serious development into that 60 day window with Hydro compared to soil.

Kind of a bummer about the exhaust thing, but no biggie. Temps aren't THAT bad, and its only going to get colder which will work out perfectly. It's actually kind of good too that I did what I did, because even though I thought I had all my lines sealed up pretty good before, I guess I hadn't. So after playing the switcharoo circus, I had way better seals.:cheesygrinsmiley:
2 exhausts would be awesome!, but it's just not viable for me at my current location, unless I vented the cooltube into another room in the house and ran full on passive.
I forgot to mention, but I took the intake fan and have it kind of half hooked up to the window. Meaning I have a 6" tube coming off the window about 3 feet lying on the floor in the veg room. I had to tape a heppa filter to the end of that because my house is surrounded by PM'd trees. I then have the intake duct just lying on the floor near the intake duct (just not connected).
I have a oil heater hooked up to a temperature controller set at 75F in the veg room. So when it gets too cold during lights off, the heater kicks on and not only keeps the veg room at 75, but the intake to my flower tent is drawing that same heat. Hence the getting 2 birds stoned at once. Both areas stay cosy using one heater.
I hope that wasn't too confusing..

Oh yeah, And I found PM on my lowers last night!!!:bitingnails:
So an hour before lights on tonight I'm going in armed with a headlamp and spray bottle, and I'm going to spray the hell out of these girls. Can't let it reach the tops. Then crank the fans up to dry them off fully before lights come on.

Re: OG Kush Round 2- In Soil - 1000Watt HPS - GH utes - CO2- Flipped Now- Going For 1

Yikes! :yikes: Bummer on the PM. Good luck getting rid of that. Sending good vibes your way... :goodluck:

Re: OG Kush Round 2- In Soil - 1000Watt HPS - GH utes - CO2- Flipped Now- Going For 1

Yeah pretty bummed to have it this far into budding.
But thankfully it's only on the lowers, should be able to contain it til harvest.
What really sucks is there's PM all around my house!
Even putting a hepa filter on the intake, it still finds a way in.
I just have to remember that, and do scheduled preventative sprays throughout every grow even if I don't see it.
Check out a leaf that's off the tree in our back yard. Covered!!!

Re: OG Kush Round 2- In Soil - 1000Watt HPS - GH utes - CO2- Flipped Now- Going For 1

ive never saw that before, whats pm? What will u use to fix it?

As for dwc, u wont need to train anywhere near as much as u would in soil or coco. The growth rate in dwc is far superior to soil grows. At the moment im vegging and training around 3 weeks then switch. Thats more than enough time so long as cutting is well rooted.
