Oct 2022 - Auto Grow - 4 Different Strains - AutoPots - Coco

Day 47 - Shifting to Flower -- What That Means to Me

  • The PLs are in flower and have been.
  • Gorilla Glue is just starting to show hairs
  • Critical Purple is slightly less than GG

This means it's time to "shift colors" as we say in the Navy.

However, these colors are VPD related.
Now, they are on the Pulse® "Flowering" chart instead of Veg.

What Does this Mean:

My tent loves 75ºF, so it is best I work with whatever Relative Humidity that makes for a happy VPD.

In this case, now I am shooting for:
75ºF / 50 - 58% RH

Whereas, before in Veg the targets were:
75ºF / 64 - 68% RH

My two humifiers will be happier and more relaxed.

More Updates:
  • Updated List:
  • See flowering status above
  • PL#2 still shows massive leaf damage.
  • Those leave will never look better
  • But I hope they are still able photosyntesize (a little)
  • Not all leaves were damaged before I flushed.
  • Last night, I dumped out about 8 gallons of nutes
  • Cleaned and Sanitized the Master Reservoir
  • Started over with nutrients
  • Changed Tactics in what goes in the Rez
  • And what goes in the pot reservoirs

Tactics Change means only the following goes in the big reservoir:
  • Jack's 3-2-1
  • CaliMagic - new because of too many Calcium issues
  • (even w/buffered coco)
  • Mono-Silic Acid
  • Mr. Fulvic
  • SLF-100 Enzymes
  • House & Garden Drip Clean (Line Cleaner)
  • Note on DripClean - Account for a little extra P & K
  • Microbe Lift Mosquito (Fungus Gnats) Control
What Doesn't Go In the Rez:

Anything that can stink over time now goes into the Pot's Rez after a short dry-back. Meaning, I'll make a mini-potion of things like:

  • Photosythesis Plus
  • Recharge
  • Amino Acids (not sure if these ever stink)

I'll probably add these on a weekly basis.

Sort of like having your bath on Saturdays!

Day 47 - Some Quick iPhone Pics

I didn't label the pics this time.

So, have a look at the two close-up shots. The more "Flowerey" is the Gorilla Glue. The good news is I thing Critical Purple is joing the rest of the tent. I see pistils.

Day 50 - Begin Week 8

Notables:

• Critical Purple is still not flowering - Double Checked - It is Auto

• Look at Close Ups of CP and tell me if there is pre-flowering there

• Gorilla Glue's Private Reservoir creeped up to 2.75

• I drained and refreshed with 2.00 EC
• I also added some Enzymes (SLF-100) to the Mix
• Along with some Root Rot Preventor & Aminos Acids and Vitamins

• I did the same to PL# 1 - Just as medicine for a hard week

• All others are matching the big reservoir

Some Encouraging Critical Purple News

Wondering why no hint of preflower on Critical Purple sent me out to looking for other growers and their experience.

I am glad I did.

These are SOMEONE ELSE'S photos of their grow going from Week 7 to Week 8.

Unless they did something wrong as well. This is a good sign.

See the post above to compare.

Day 51 - Photos

Best news of the day (knock wood), there are no negative issues happening in the tent. No NEW negative issues.

Last night I put Gorilla Glue into LST and thinned out excess leaves.

Critical Purple got similar treatment. In her case, I tightend existing tie-downs and thinned out the center and any leaves pointing inward.

As you can see in the lower left, Mystery Plant is drinking from Blumats, while living in a Rain Science Bag.

Extra Note: Look at the picture with the yellow circles. Why do so many Calyx not develop? Was it from early stunting?

Day 55 - All Quiet on the Western Front

These photos don't show the additional pruning and training that both Critical Purple and Gorilla Glue received today.

I introduced the plants to Tribus last night.

Like any Plant Pusher, I'll get em' hooked on Tribus
and leave them with the smell of Photosynthesis Plus. ;)

Day 57 - Flower Fuel, Clipped Leaves & FloraFlex Bloom Foliar

I got tired of looking at the half-dead leaves on the Purple Lemonade #1, so I clipped the one that had green still on them. Cut a couple of fan leaves all the way. off. I did this after photos were taken.

Last night I made up some really weak Flower Fuel and injected into the soil around the pot. It was probably less than 1/2 strength. Just trying a little something to get the Gorilla Glue and Critical Purple to get to flowering properly.

Making a fresh batch of nutrients tonight (3 gallon). Full Strength.

Another shot of Tribus directly into the AutoPot AquaValve reservoir. The recipe is 1ml:1gal. Each mini-reservoir holds about 500 ml, so I'll add 0.25 ml via small syringe.

Since I am testing FloraFlex Nutrients on my Blackstrap Auto, I've started using their foliar Bloom Foliar.

The two Purple Lemonades may look freaky, but they are the stars of the tent when it comes to flowering.

I'll post the pictures for Gorilla Glue and Critical Purple here, and then a separate post for the Purple Lemonades.

Lastly, working to keep DLI in check with so many different aged plants

Day 58 - Defoliation Day + More

As you see from the photos, the shears were a-shear'n.

This is my first time going in and removing buds already forming. They were the popcorn-sucker type hidden under the canopy.

I also removed the little stubby flowers forming on the main branches.

I could have done more, but I have beat these girls about the head and shoulders this whole grow,

Last night, I did put about 0.125ml of Tribus into each AquaValve Reservoir.

These also got a shot of Vitamins and Aminos.

And finished of with some Photosynthesis Plus ... just for the cologne factor. :snowboating:

Day 60 - Alone Time

These plants are getting very much needed "left-alone" time.

Meaning, I'm keeping my grubby-sadistic hands away from them.

Lesson Learned - Defoliation

I will definitely do things differently next time. I now realize all I should do in Veg is some early bottom clean up (i.e. early node branches and leaves that are touching the ground and topping.

Then about a 7 - 10 days before flower do all of my lolipopping. Since I often grow Autos, this will end of being a judgement call. This time break give your plants time to recover before flowering truly gets going.

I also now understand that you should leave a few lower fan leaves because they can be early indicators of nutrients troubles brewing.

Pruning Ideas - Something Learned

@Peat Phreak (You'll like this)

A new technique to me called Node Pruning. I learned this one from watching TPS Higher Education Videos. This is where you pull out those baby buds that are just barely visiable in the "arm pit" of each node as they appear. I'm talking bud sites that I have no intention of growing. This will happen throughout the life of the plant. Of course remove larger developing buds that snuck by me.

I've copied a link to where this is dicussed in the video (this is about 3:30 into the video:

If you just want to start at the beginning then click this link instead:

Day 60 Baby Bud Plans.png

Towards the end of Veg, it's time to prune out unwanted Auxillary Branches and any other buds that I determine that I don't think have a chance to grow high or are covered from light. This would be a part of the lolipopping.

That's what I love about growing this plant, you never know all there is to know and you can always be better at it.

Alright ... time for some Pot Porn (Part 1):

We'll start with Mystery Seed. This is one I have in mind for my "Lessons Learned" above. As you can see there is already a lot going on under that canopy.
