Nick Hardy & Co Graduation: Coco Co2 High EC: Grown in Thailand: Perpetual

Yeah they didn’t finish last night and have so far no showed today. But perfectly possible they turn up in a couple of hours at 7pm or something. Yesterday they got paid in weed which is sweet.

Also 6 now goes into 4 and if I ever do an outdoor grow then I’m definitely making myself one of the other. There’s actually a “how to” video it comes from. Trust me you don’t need the video!

Im surprised you didn't 3d print the reducer 😁

Yeah it looks at me with disgust at not bothering to get her fired up. Stubbed my toe on the big box of filament that got delivered 10 days ago.

Just trying to get the big stuff done before the weekend. Dry/cure room wound down for 2 months and I can fire up the printer in there.

There’s some HVAC parts for the Solo/Veg area that I should definitely print.

Builders. Still. Not. Come.

That’s OK plants are still a long way off. Need 20

Have:

14x a week out.
8x 2 weeks out
40x 3 weeks out

Ho hum.

So an outdoor, soil SIP anyone?

Building the SIP after work. Popped out and got some bits today. I have the 15 gallon airpot and a load of super soil, worm castings, bat shit, bolashi, frass, magic rocks and other stuff to fill it with.

Basically dropping the airpot into the trash can until its tight. About 1/3 from the bottom at 19” diameter. Its going to be quite big. The blue PVC pipe is 1m so the trash can is about 80cm.

Mega Outdoor Soil SIP for the balcony. Perhaps a poll on what to put in there?

I’ll check outdoor friendly v. Stocks of spares, clones and seeds on hand. I want 3 months of veg out of it which means getting it in dirt ASAP

A giant res and nutes from the soil suits my less than attentive approach to outdoor grows.

Edit - Airpot won’t fit. Just using the base,.

That's too long for a SIP plant unless you have a dedicated building for it
IMG_4934.jpeg

Going to have her out there South facing balcony for a couple of months as the westher comes from the West or NW its a 2.5m high ceiling.

When the weather finishes for flower I’ll move her to another balcony that’s SW - NW facing during dry season (with wind from the East)

Even the soil runs out I’ll just use bottled nutes anyway. I have a spare PVC valve. Thinking I might put it right at the bottom of the Res. I’ll be able to empty the res and then flush it through with irrigation cleaner (Called “Keep it Clean” by Dutch Pro) or H2O2 treated water to keep everything copacetic down there.

What’d ya reckon?

You'll need consistent training to keep it wider in one direction compared to the others as it'll want to hulk out in all directions.
Yeah I was joking with Jon about “Mexican on a Bicycle” training versus his “sombrero”

Keep pushing the envelope @NickHardy !

If you’re going that big @NickHardy, you can do a lot better than Sombrero training.

I’m thinking like this:

It really should get unimaginably gigantic in a setup that size. You better do something to keep her hedge like or you’re gonna need a hook and ladder by the time she’s finished!

Good Morning.
Then it dawns on me, it's in your sig. 😂
That's not a sip that's Oscar the grouchs house.
Sans the basement.
How do you clean inside once it's full?
If you have too?
Palm trees is what you will end up with.
It'll be massive. :thumb: hehe.
When will it flower?

How are you planning to connect the soil above with the water reservoir?

Funnily enough I bought that today. At the cinema (Meg 2 - they filmed it here from the pier I go fishing from) but its ready to assemble when I get home in 2-3 hours.

Its gonna look cool. All the soil and amendments are here and the strain has been picked.

I'm assuming it's a drink cup, hopefully rocking the Meg 2 logo!

Was in the posh seats just a couple of cans of Sprite - they don’t even sell nachos in Thai cinemas 🥲

Movie was ridiculous but it was a me time thing. Dark room movie and no background noise. Was nice. In basically an airline first class sleeping pod bang middle of the screen couldn’t see or hear another person. Bliss.

Anyway - to answer @Azimuth ‘s question. Anything much smaller than this I wouldn’t bother with a bridge here. The low temperature here at night is 25c’s. In a black bucket the water temps get way higher. Evaporation will jump the gap easy - then the roots will jump the air gap anyway I reckon.

But supporting the upper layer given the size is an issue so added a wick thing.

Those two puppies come in at 30cm/12” high. I’m going to cover the Marioesque side entrance with some mesh I bought and fill it with perlite and magic rocks. After I’ve glued it here:

IMG_4965.jpeg

Then I need to cut two holes to fit these:

IMG_4969.jpeg

A valve for the bottom should I ever want to drain the res. i can think of a couple of reasons that might be useful. Movement, root issues. The res I calculate to be 48 litres/12+ gallons. That’s quite a lot. The T bit has a short length of 1/2” pipe to glue in and it will be a slightly more aggressive overflow than the previous that offended some peoples sensibility looking as they do a bit like a male appendage. This looks more like an angry nose pierced lunatic.

Its going to be a Hulkberry going in there. I have such a beautiful one I pulled from the Solo grow. Either that whole or a clone from it.

On top of the Marioland pipe there’s the bottom of a 15G Airpot and a layer of the mesh. Above that a layer of perlite and some maygic rocks and then the soil and all the other amendments bat shit, worm shit, frass, bokashi probably some potting soil and and coco to fill it all. Layered up. The medium is going to be 127L or 33 Gallons. That’s quite a lot.

I definitely need to fill it up stairs or I’ll never be able to carry it 😂

Oh the feed pipe you’ve seen before. Definitely want a float for that.

There you go - just a bit of drilling and gluing and its done.

@Danishoes21 is running a similar design, relying on evaporation rather than a soil link. I think he's finding it was not as efficient.

I have a giant blue link but @Danishoes21 - where in the world are you?

Its 8:30am here and 29c (85c) 80% Rh indoors in the shade with a ceiling fan on. Outside its hotter. It just doesn’t go below that ever. I’d anticipate temperatures of closing 40-45 degrees celsius minimum in a black sealed container left in the sun for a few days let alone a few weeks.

I reckon that would super charge it.

I 100% now need a thermometer on a 1m cable. I have two but they’re both wall mounted. I can also get an approximation by draining the res of a little and using a handheld thermometer.

But with out requiring a more complicated structural design I need a central column anyway so may as well double up as a wick.

I have a lot of holes to drill today, its got to be airpot style as well… 🤦🏻‍♂️
