New Moon Over Guawi: A High Brix Journey

Thanks Gazoo, Im a little concerned due to how small they still are at 30+ days  .
I am paying attention to your COB'ing because Im interested. I am not, however, ready to learn anything else new right now haha! Between a new tent, new strains, new soil, etc. o_O Im freaking out a bit

Ha Ha  I understand. I could of done It last harvest but skipped it for the same reason.
I just cant resist the temptation to see if I can open my 3rd eye

How Cannabis Affects The Pineal Gland

The pineal gland has a profound impact on the brain. Its sensitivity has led to speculation that it is the "third eye" referred to in mythology. It is worth investigating what sort of impact cannabis has on this part of the brain.

I would really look into what you are sticking in there with your cob. I have no info on the stuff. I try as much as I can to follow this: " Would I ingest that material right now? " . If not, I try not to use it. I know they use that material to make high heat refractory for stoves.

I am not sure I follow, are we talking about the PVC/CPVC or the Oxygen absorbor packet ? The oxygen absorbor is mostly
iron powder

What is an oxygen absorber made of?

Oxygen absorbers are small packets that contain an iron powder. The packets are made of a material that allows oxygen and moisture to enter but does not allow the iron powder to leak out. The Oxygen Absorbers are safe to place on top of the food.

I just did a deeper search on the Web site for the Oxygen Absorbers
Could not find a list of EXACT ingredients, (other than Iron Powder) ? But I did find they are FDA Approved.

They do say NOT TO EAT Them

Used to protect a variety of goods as they travel through the supply chain, our bags comply with rigorous industry and government standards including FDA, DIN, Mil-Spec, and JEDEC.

Commonly used for semiconductor dry packing, preservation packaging and export packaging, with typical applications including electronic devices, food packaging, equipment, automotive parts, machinery, military goods, metal components and many other valuables.

Oxygen Scavenger Questions? Call us.

Oxy-Guard™ oxygen scavenging packets, also known as oxygen absorbers are a method of active packaging. Clariant’s oxygen absorbers aid in maintaining freshness in packaged foods such as pet treats, processed and dried meats, meals ready to eat (MRE’s), packaged coffee and teas.

Shelf life of packaged foods is also prolonged by avoiding food degradation due to oxygen that can lead to the growth of microorganisms. Foods with unsaturated fats and oils also benefit due to their highly susceptibility to oxidation.

Benefits
  • High capacity for oxygen absorption
  • Maintain oxygen level of less than 0.1% inside a sealed package during the intended shelf life
  • Help maintain taste, texture and freshness while preventing the conditions that may cause mold, microbial growth and rancidity in packaged foods
  • Oxygen absorbers minimize the need for preservatives
EDIT:

What will happen if you eat an oxygen absorber?

Oxygen Absorbers are safe, and if eaten are nontoxic. The material used inside oxygen absorber packets is iron dust. The oxygen absorber works by allowing finely divided iron to react with oxygen to create iron oxide, also known as rust. ... A person or animal can be poisoned by eating large quantities of iron.

Did you use the copper tube? Or was that brass? Looked like copper to me... I would worry about my cob having that copper taste to it... but idk that it would bleed into the cob. The oxygen absorbers are a cool idea though, I kinda wonder how they would work for curing buds in a mason jar. Or keeping your cured buds at a certain point by keeping the oxygen (oxidizer) out of the jar for the most part...
What are your thought on this Gazoo?

Good point on the Cooper taste ? did not think of that.

I Did not want to use PVC and needed something strong enough that
would not collapsing during vacuum. Dont think its going to matter with this last seal job since
the tube moved and the Vacuum is so tight its completely sealed off from the cob

I do use them in my VACUUM Sealed Ball Jars for Curing but its only been for a short time now
so No real results to report.

I dont use the BOVIDA packs any longer as they changed the smell to a hay type smell and not sure
what these will do but thinking removing all the oxygen has to be a good thing right :hmmmm:

Maybe not a good choice on the COPPER TUBE but the universe is looking out for me and moved it away.

If it will leach into water I would expect it could be a problem

Does copper leach into water?

A potential source of excessive copper exposure in humans is from drinking water transferred through copper pipes and brass sink fixtures. Small amounts of copper from plumbing leach into water, particularly hot water and water that has been sitting in the pipes for several hours or overnight.Feb 5, 2016

Copper toxicity, also called copperiedus, is a type of metal poisoning caused by an excess of copper in the body. Copperiedus can occur from eating acidic foods cooked in uncoated copper cookware, or from exposure to excess copper in drinking water or other environmental sources.

I always wondered what was in them mystery packs. Now I know. A little iron can't be a bad thing.

After reading up on them I should note there are DIFFERENT types
The Iron Powder is in the OXYGEN ABSORBERS

MOISTURE PACKETS are different Not sure whats in those
There are also others for specific types of absorption so I thank you for keeping me on
track with your question.

Now looking for a nice tube of Glass with some side holes for use INSTEAD of that copper problem

Man you always post the best stuff... good read, thank you :passitleft:

My Pleasure I never know what is of interest so kinda just post what ever is running through my mind
at the moment. Must be rather confusing for anyone not in MY head

Great info 'G'..thanks bud!...:high-five:

Very Welcome

No problem. I seem to find interest in many different areas so excuse my constant skipping
around on different subjects. I research and read what I can as the situations come up so its
always moving from subject to subject. I simply post it here in my journal so I have a place to go
back to and re-read when needed
