New City Grower 3.0 - Sponsored by Twilight Group Co. - Featuring the Spider9 COB LED

Re: New City Grower 3.0 - Sponsored by Twilight Group Co. - Featuring the Spider9 COB

Good day weed BAR. 2 liter growing works hydroponically very well. You may have seen a system like this but here it is anyway. Great ebb and flow system.

Looks like a very cool, easy to use/build, inexpensive system.
I have been wanting to experiment with hydro for some time now after coming across this website: Science In Hydroponics (hope the link doesn't violate any "sponsor non competition" rules; non commercial open source site!)

Building a system like that would seem like the perfect solution...
...soon time for harvest so perfect timing for next grow. :thanks:

Re: New City Grower 3.0 - Sponsored by Twilight Group Co. - Featuring the Spider9 COB

Oh, I got you now Star. You mean using the top (pot) portions placed in one large reservoir container. That would work I guess but it would eliminate the benefit of portability that you get from having each pot in it's own reservoir. The way I use it is top feed and the runoff becomes the reservoir feed. The bottom is duct taped to the pot portion.

Yeah that's it man. For my next 'grow' I hope to be organized enough to run a 6 pack but for now, with my spare slot I'm going to run an experiment.
I went out today and grabbed a few $1.25, 2.25L bottles of cola. I emptied one straight away to begin and left the other to cool for the missus. Guarantee we get through 1/3 of it max before its flat. Such a waste but we just don't drink the stuff and it's still cheaper than buying specifically shaped pots.. :lot-o-toke:

With a bit of this action..

Update when we have a tappy and when the girl drinks her POPPPPP! ;)

I used the bottle cloners myself for 2 years before building a bubbler cloner.
Great method.

Great share Cajun. Once again, the proof is in the budding...

I'm not sure if you have bottle and can collectors like we do here but what I do is go by one of the supermarkets where they have the recycle machines outside of the store (There's always a line waiting to load the machines) and just offer $1 for 6 bottles. It's a number I can throw in my empty knapsack so I don't look like a bottle collector myself (not implying anything's wrong with that) when walking home.

Nice tweak there Star. So you don't even use a wick. Are you going to keep the water bottle attached at the same level & refill it once empty?

Re: New City Grower 3.0 - Sponsored by Twilight Group Co. - Featuring the Spider9 COB

Sorry bro, my Inadequate explanations strike again.. :p

What I'll be running for this experiment is exactly what you have only I'll be watering(after she's established) straight through this pipe into the reservoir. That's what it is, just a res fill pipe. I'll still be running a wick I think. By the way, what can I use as a wick without poisoning my Poison?
No topfeeding other than foliar spray I don't think but I'm still researching.

What I intend to run for my next proper grow will be 6x 2.25L SIPS connected to one simple reservoir. We shall see! :D

If Green Poison Auto(GPA) has a tappy out tmoz I'm tipping the cola and finishing up her home.

So how bad actually is Perlite and Vermaculite dust? I read terrible but my hydro shop never mentioned it.. :/

Peace my friends.

Re: New City Grower 3.0 - Sponsored by Twilight Group Co. - Featuring the Spider9 COB

I just used white rope handles, you know the ones that come from those big shopping bags from ladies dept. stores. Just make sure you only use the non-waxed ones.
I've never heard that about Vermiculite &/or Perlite dust. If anyone else has please do chime in.

Perlite and vermiculite dust is hazardous to breath. When I add perlite and vermiculite to my soiless mixture I also use a spot sprayer to wet the mixture to reduce dust.

Thanxx John...

Re: New City Grower 3.0 - Sponsored by Twilight Group Co. - Featuring the Spider9 COB

Perlite dust is terrible stuff. I have huge bags of perlite in the shed which I use for many of my outdoor potted plants and flowers. I have to put a scarf over my mouth and nose when I'm getting lots of it. I think I look like a cowboy but Mrs Teddy says I look like an idiot. :goof:

Re: New City Grower 3.0 - Sponsored by Twilight Group Co. - Featuring the Spider9 COB

Cool, so it's not too important what you use as long as it's not waxed? So some plain cotton fabric or something should do? I can't wait to try this. Annoying thing is I'm away for 2.5 weeks late Feb.. :/

So P&V'lite dust is bad. Hmm, I just read online that it contains asbestos. Please tell me this isn't so. That's horrific that it can be sold without proper warnings..

Re: New City Grower 3.0 - Sponsored by Twilight Group Co. - Featuring the Spider9 COB

Some old mines where vermiculite was mined from has been found to contain asbestos, these mines have been shut down. Old home may contain vermiculite as insulation that contains asbestos and must be carefully removed by trained asbestos removal staff. Horticultural grade vermiculite is mined from safe deposits, vermiculite dust is hazardous to breath in.

I do something similar, when I get the 2cuft bags of perlite, I poke a few holes in the bottom, open up the top, and pour a bucket of water through it before I do anything else. no dust, and it acts as a pre-wash.

Re: New City Grower 3.0 - Sponsored by Twilight Group Co. - Featuring the Spider9 COB

So are we saying that Horticultural Perlite & Vermiculite bought on the open market these days don't contain asbestos?

Does Perlite contain asbestos?

No. The Perlite Institute has undertaken a project to collect available data both on Perlite ore and expanded perlite products. The data is based upon perlite products mined and processed at various locations throughout the World. To date, there is no evidence that Perlite contains asbestos either from contamination or as a secondary component.

Does Vermiculite contain asbestos?

No. Due to the geological make-up of the region near Libby, Montana there was asbestos present. The Libby, Montana mine has been closed since 1990. Current manufacturers of vermiculite have known about this problem for years, and have had their material checked for possible asbestos contamination.

Like you, I have large bags of Perlite & Vermiculite in the shed for all my misc gardening needs.
Sorry to say Mrs Teddy isn't far off, :laughtwo: any scarf would likely not be much use for the finer particulates that also happen to be the least conducive to health :cough: You really ought to water down the Perlite to reduce airborne dust or get a proper respirator = cheap health insurance. Besides you could look like Darth Vader instead :)

Thx for the regular feeding schedule updates also.
We have King John C to thank for that Ranger. When I asked for assistance in setting up & how to run a Sponsored Journal he more than obliged.
