Maintianing a temperature of 65°-70° Fahrenheit is best for a hydroponic system. Low temperatures will slow growth and limit the plants ability to uptake nutrients. Too high of temperature can cause a bloom of undesirable bacteria in the reservoir.

It doesn't mold or rot and acts like a sponge for nutrients etc.

vermiculite creates space for o2, absorbs and holds water, buffers nutes.
