I think it's bud rot. And the plants will start dying... Do not overwater. Have good drainage. That will help prevent it.

What is “botrytis”? How can we identify it? What conditions allow it to flourish? What are ways to prevent it?

Its a fungus......Grey in colour. Not sure on rest though

thrives in very moist, humid and warm environments
to prevent it keep environment dry with lots of airflow
