My First Time Growing

OH God! I just got lucky!! I was trying to raise my light up an inch or so and broke the tie wrap on one end and barely caught the light in time not to hurt the plants (thanks to Arteekay for his accident, because I was just thinking about how easy that could happen when it did!), I am a little worse for wear today on my back, but fortunately didn't throw it out completely like when I brushed my teeth the other night. Go figure, a 1 oz toothbrush throws it out but a 70 Lb light (or more) didn't. We are strange creatures.

And gratefully my son was in ear range and heard me yell for help. The plants didn't get touched. I don't know if can say my priorities are right (my back or my plants) but they didn't get touched because I was just thinking about what had happened to Arteekay when it happened.

I just went back and added extra tie wraps everywhere I had them holding the light so it doesn't happen again. Unfortunately the tent has extra wide bars for the lights and the caribeaners won't fit around them. If there is a better word that anyone knows for "caribeaner" let me know, I HATE how racist that sounds and this is coming from someone that NEVER used the "n" word in their life, I always hated how ignorant my parents sounded when they said it (I won't apologize for NOT being a racist) so never expect to hear a racial slur out of me or post one in my journal please. I respect everyone's opinion but prefer not to hear that stuff. Just thought I'd mention it. But with you guys, I'm sure it's not even a problem.

Smokey, they are actually spelled Carabiner. Carabiner clips. That should make it sound much better to you for sure.
Otherwise just call them light clips.

Good job on your save! And so glad you didn't hurt yourself OR the plants.

Thank you for the spelling Canna, I never knew it was spelt that way, I just knew it was wrong the way I was spelling it. That should make it so much nicer, I'm surprised spell check on my browser didn't have that word. I am VERY grateful it didn't take my back out all together also.

THAT would be great!

.....and yepper...someone put that idea into production.

First site I pulled up, Gorilla Grow tents, makes an extendable tent. With a separate kit you can add height or width to their line of tents.

Ah well.....I won't be a millionaire today. Maybe tomorrow....

I won't even say "like" on that post, I looked all over and didn't see it. Oh well, sorry!

They should make Extend-a-tents that you can roll up higher when you need them to. :tokin:

Not crazy about the wording, and technically I didn't bend much, My tent is up on a table, so I only slightly bent my knees and caught the light, but thanks for the kind words. And Hello this evening.

Dah... :sorry: I was just meaning bending the plant over... :sorry: Mrs Smoke... I promise no disrespect was meant in anyway....:circle-of-love:

No apology required, She's not home tonight, went out with the Daughter and Granddaughter. I just have a dirty mind from my old job, People in my old profession usually have a filthy and/or gallows humor. Makes the job easier, I'm still laughing, please don't apologize, she would have thought that was funny too.

Man! I missed all of today's excitement. Glad to hear you didn't hurt yourself (most importantly) or your girls (right next in line) in the process, but mine was a #stonedmoron moment rather than an equipment failure.

Nice catch!

It did teach me a lot though, I now take the girls out from underneath when I'm playing with the lights.

See ya all tomorrow.

this thread expands quick!! been a back seat watcher the last bit and whoa the girls looking great! and fuzzy :) I'm so glad you caught that light!! and you can always use zip-ties to hold the light up high, 2 for each connection spot so that loosely holds the light up until 4 corners are connected, then your able to tighten them both to pull it straight to the top(and repeat process for all corners) ive done this before and my only problem was taking it down i scratched the bar up with each snip of a tie... and i read the "no expanding tent" comment and got all excited because i knew the gorilla tents did it and then soon read that you guys beat me to it!! :P BTW to everyone here you guys make it hard to not like every comment! :thanks: but most of all Smoke, i hope your back is feeling 110% better!!

Yeah, It was an interesting day, that's for sure, First the buds that grew taller than the lights, and then the light tie wrap failure, but in 100% honesty, I have you to thank for nothing happening to my girls, At the exact moment it happened I was thinking about what happened to you and what I'd due if something like that happened to me and it sort of did! (not the exact same scenario, but enough to make me think) So I was half ready for it and just caught the light with my hand and yelled for help because I couldn't put it down on top of the plants (tent is full now with 4 plants, back to waiting to find out the sex on the 2 newest ones going into flower but I'm pretty confident of PJ's prediction that they would probably be all females). Now I have multiple tie wraps helping make it more secure. So you Artekay have my thanks.

Smokey

Thanks Lilybeanz, I'll look into the 4 corners light hang you mentioned, It will depend a lot on my son and how long he could hold the light up while I did the tie wraps, I have to see first if any of my tie wraps that are big enough to be secure will fit in the four light hanger wire holes if I'm understanding you correctly. I have a Mars 144x5w light that's pretty heavy and has pretty small holes at the end of each of the 4 wire hangers, not sure I could fit multiple tie wraps in the holes. If I am misunderstanding what your saying, please set me straight :hmmmm: I want my light to be secure! I was about halfway back to no my normal pain wise when the light fell and made me a little sorer, but fortunately it didn't take me out like it could/should have.:) and I'm sure I can say that everyone likes your posts too!

Sorry for the late night posts, but I guess I'm just sore enough to keep me from sleeping, I tried for hours to fall asleep and just couldn't, SO I woke up all the way and figured I'd check for new messages and voila! there were a couple. I think I'm going to try again to sleep, my eyes are closing but my back is yelling, I hope my eyes win! :)
