My First Time Growing

+reps to Dr Bob and ShiggetyFlip for useful research.

I do a little top dress with worm castings now and then. If I loose a week of growth - so be it. I'm still experimenting. It might take years.

I don't see why you would lose any growth Rad. It is not a large amount of EWC and the plants always love it! It's not a perfect comparison but tomatoes also produce those "proto roots" up the stem and it is a super common practice to bury it some.

I'm back on! I've spent all day emailing :420:and the webmaster to get my log on fixed. I tried early this afternoon to answer something from Shiggity and was told my name and password were invalid (It was either a problem with 420 or someone tried hacking into my account). It finally JUST got fixed.

I won't use the words "sorry" and "dumb" anymore about myself. I appreciate what you guys told me. I just felt like I was being a pain asking so many questions, but I won't hesitate anymore. Thank you guys for treating me so good. You all are like family now and I won't be so hesitant when it comes to asking stuff.

It's because we love:Love:you Smoke and once you have us your stuck with us...:)...:circle-of-love:

I wouldn't want it any other way. I love all of you too (not to sound to girly :) ). You guys take such good care of me that I just didn't want to take advantage of it. As far as being stuck with you, I don't know what I'd do without you all. I love having you guys looking over my shoulder and giving advice. That's the biggest reason I try posting enough pics to keep you up to date on how my grows are going.

After reading your posts now from yesterday, I won't call my self dumb or hesitate to ask any questions (heres where I would have said I'm sorry, but won't) . I just feel like I'm asking questions that should be obvious. In fact, here is one question. What do you guys do with your plants after you harvest them? Will they come back and be reharvestable again or do I just get rid of them? I just don't know what to do (far into the future) after I harvest my plants.

Thanks

Well Smoke you have a couple of options here..... Yes you can just harvest and chunk the stalk out the door... or you can leave a few of the popcorn buds and a bit of foliage and let her do what is called a re-veg.... The plant will literally go back to veg'ing and start all over again... BAR does this all the time and is actually on his re-veg #4 of the same girl of Jack Herer...:circle-of-love:

Thanks Dennise, I will make the decision after I harvest for the first time (a long way off I know) and see how my other plants are doing. Harley and Casey did so well, I was just wondering if i could clone them or keep them for the growth strain and am just waiting to see if it's good stuff or not until after I smoke it. You have made the decision much easier. Thanks again!!

Cloning Experiment

Hiya smokeater.

Here is my little cloning experiment based upon Lembatoast's tried and true technique and the supplies I had on hand

1. Rockwool cubes were soaked overnight in a mixture of 12oz water, 1/4 tsp cloning liquid.

Usually I soak for 15 minutes. The cloning liquid label recommended 2-4 hours.

2. Cuttings were taken from apical meristems (on the diagonal). I this case, a Girl Scout Cookies in pre-flower.

Yes. My scissors are all sticky. I was trimming this morning. :)

3. Cuttings went immediately into the rockwool cubes. I don't use pre-existing holes. I went for a tight fit by pressing the stem into the rockwool.

4. Cubes and cuttings were placed in a plastic back, bag was inflated with my breath, then sealed.

5. I plan to open them up and breathe in new air every 2 days or so.

Smokeater, I'll mail you cloning liquid and rockwool cubes if you want to play along :)

I just started soaking the cube, I'm looking forward to this!

Just as an update, I'm posting new pic's of all my plants for you guys to see how I'm doing. They are:
Bottom bookcase,
Tent,
Amnesia
The Critical Super Silver Haze seedling
And the Truthband in that order if I get it right.

The bottom of the bookcase is pretty tight I know, But is the only other place I could find to grow. The plants are healthy looking but are just very jammed up. Since PJ seems to be missing for now (I sure hope he is O.K.), Does anyone think I should put Jordan (Right side of bottom of bookcase) in the flower tent yet? A few weeks ago he said it should be able to be put into flower in a few weeks but we were waiting for him to see how they looked in a few weeks but I don't want to rush into anything. The only snag is they were bag seeds like the first two and I have no idea of their sex yet. Would it be better to wait? I never saw pistils on the ones in the tent until they went into flower mode. PJ was pretty sure they would all be females because I only found a couple seeds in a couple bags and he figured that meant they were females kept away from males and were never able to pollinate. Any advice would be welcome. I don't plan on doing it today or anything, but am trying to figure out my game plan.
Thanks for any advice
Smokey

You will be trading a jam packed veg area for a jam packed flower area but I think your going to be full house no matter what. How many weeks in veg is Jordan now? Can you remove that other stuff in the flower tent?

Morning!
Bob ;)

It seems to me that in the flower tent you have all the area under the lights filled? Is that so? Or is there room in there. I don't like to crowd in flower too much because the plants just stretch out trying to outcompete each other. Your two that are already in there would probably not stretch but anything new would definitely overstretch. Unless there is some unused space I am not seeing.

What you have is the best kind of problem to have. A full flower tent and too many plants to go in haha. That is my current situation. I have 10 in flower for another month and over thirty in the veg room. For me, my solution is to trim any large veg plants back. It makes them smaller and also stunts their new growth about a week. The plants under the white light look like they should have some visible mature preflowers if you look at the nodes (branch points). If any are male we can just ditch them and make butter with the leaves.

I have not had a successful re-veg.

I put my leaves ans small sticks into a worm bin to become future soil amendments.
Small sticks and leaves can go down a garbage disposal.

I leave the rootball in the soil to be disolved by microbes.

For many people, disposing of used soil is a big 'indicator' of growing. This is not a problem for you !
Since this is PJ Soil, you will be re-using the soil - most people don't get to re-use their soil :)

I don't really know what to tell ya here Smoke... I would rather have a crammed veg room than an over crowded bloom room too... You can do like Shiggity said and do like a slight defol on them and that will slow em' down a bit and hopefully PJ will be sliding back through pretty soon... He disappears from time to time but he always shows back up.....:circle-of-love:

What's up with the board, it all looks wonky now and I'm replying in a weird message box? Jordan sprouted on 1-12-16 and has grown like crazy ever since, I'm not sure when they are considered "in veg" but I transplanted her into a 1 gallon pot around 1-25-16 and put it in the biog pot it's in now about 2 weeks ago if I remember correctly. (I am trying to keep a better record now of the plants on paper). I hope that helps tell you what you asked, but I never knew what considered them "in veg" The plant sprouted on 1-12 for sure and has grown a lot ever since, The ones in flower now sprouted on 1-1-16 and have been in flower for about 3 weeks. Since this is still my first time growing I just realized recently how important it is to keep good records. And yes, I can move stuff in the tent around with no problem. I have a biggish box in there now to hold up my fan that I will have to figure out how to suspend. Hopefully this goes thru without any problems since the site looks so different all of a sudden.

Board looks normal again, I have room in the tent, I just have to remove the box the fan is sitting on. But I can squeeze a couple plants in still.

I don't care about the plants in regards to PJ, I'm just worried at how long he's been gone. His last post was on the 26th of last month.
