My First Time Growing

looking good, a lot of people lolipop as well..(clean out the bottom 3-8inch of everything, leaves and bud sites usually) something to consider next time around. the only lollipopping issue I had was doing it early flower and it encouraged way too much stretch. now if i do it its all during veg..

Those girls had some big leaves.

You opened quite a bit up from what I can see.

:circle-of-love:

Yep, That's why I asked if they could be trimmed back, The little buds down lower were always in shadow that I could see and I figured it could make a difference in my yield. Or at least hope it does as well as making some more room in the tent for a future plant. PJ had mentioned something about putting Jordan into flower in a couple weeks I believe but I just don't want to go searching back through all my pages to find it today, I have to leave to take my wife for a Doctors appointment soon (just a check up).

I'll think about that with the plants I have in veg, one is getting pretty big again and the other larger one isn't as big, but had almost died off when it was a baby as is stunted a little. Gotta go. Be back later!

hmmmmmmmm

Since I started cleaning out the lower 5-8 " of a 20+ inch plant on the day I put them into flower, I have yet to have more than 6-8" of stretch. Before that 10-12" was common - then again, I am also running a lot more strains - including all the old ones.

I'm the same way Dennise, I'm a guy, but I have gay friends and have no problem with trans people. It's not anyone's fault how they feel. They just came off the line that way. More power to 'em as long as they can find happiness!

I know this is from a few weeks back, but :bravo: to you sir!

Nothing wrong with the old ones, I'm an older one and still have plenty of good stuff in me! :)
But seriously, Since I cut them today I have already noticed some stretch (I wasn't expecting that since they are 3 weeks into flower) when I just got back. Maybe an inch or less already but I had no idea plants could grow that fast, I wish I had a video camera on them to have watched them grow so quickly over a matter of about 3 and 1/2 hours. It amazed me when I got home. BTW, Thanks for everything Radogast!

They will stink more and faster than you expect. I have a group in veg now that stinks up my room totally as it isn't being scrubbed cause I didn't expect it to be so strong. Ooops :laughtwo:

Bob ;)

I'm still waiting for the odor to get strong inside the tent. Right now all I smell is sort of like a strong odor of new mowed grass but outside the tent I can't smell anything with the filter system. My bookcase with the plants vegging has no discernible odor unless I put my nose right into a plant. I'm actually looking forward to the smell so I know their growing/flowering properly. But the girls in the tent were bag seeds as were 2 of the ones in veg and I have no clue as to their strain other than the seeds I used for Harley and Casey (the ones flowering) were from some good sh*t. I germinated a new seed 2 days ago (Delicious Critical Super Silver Haze feminized) but obviously am still waiting for it to sprout). I have 5 total from presprout to larger in the bookcase.

But if any of the ones in the bookcase get really smelly, I'm going to run their air thru the tent to filter out the odor. PJ suggested that a while back.

I no longer notice the smell of marijuana, growing or smoked unless I brush against buds in the flower room. Marijuana is just a background smell, like pepper or toast

Hello all! I just wanted to ask if it would be O.K. to add some soil to the top of the buckets of the girls that are flowering (only where there are no stalks coming out). The watering seems to have settled the soil down even lower than before and since some of their food comes from soil, I thought it might be a good idea to bring it back up. Sorry to ask what is probably a dumb question, but don't want to hurt the girls. BTW, Now I see pistils everywhere all over them.

Since the beginning I have been trying to compare what I do to what happens in nature. Like in this case, dry soil can go up and down depending on the amount of wind they see along with water running over where they would grow in a rain storm. I understand that the idea is to grow under premium conditions, but since it grows so well out in nature, certain things shouldn't hurt them. Like a small amount of light during lights out, They grow under moonlight and next to highways where car headlights are always hitting them as well as growing near cities that will mildly light up the area they grow in all the time. I'm shooting for premium conditions, but I don't close all the vents on my tent at night (where would the filtration system get air to run thru the tent?) even when I have a small light on in the room since I know in nature they aren't completely blacked out at night. For instance, today is normally a watering day (they are really dry but don't show it) but I want to wait a little longer because every 2 days it doesn't rain in nature and the worst that will happen is drooping tomorrow if I am wrong. I'm just explaining my method of thinking so you guys will know what I'm thinking when I ask questions. I normally have an idea of the answer, but don't know if their are certain rules that people just don't do due to experience.

Sorry, That was the biggest post I've made I think. But I just want you guys to understand what I'm thinking and why I ask so many questions. You guys are the reason my plants have grown so well and thought it would be better if you knew where my head is at when I'm asking stuff. I would never have made it this far without all of you because of the rules you just don't break that I had no clue about. So thank you guys so much for everything and I hope you don't mind me still asking questions even though my journal has gotten so big. I feel stupid every time I ask something now since you have all provided so much info.

Smokey I don't play around with light during night time hours. One of the things you must remember is that inside and outside grows are very different. Plants in outdoor grows have very little blue light during flower because of the angle of the sun in fall. They also have a sunset that has a good bit of far red light. This is one reason why they are able to flower with less than 12 hours darkness. The far red light at sunset tells them to go to sleep and kicks a plant protein called phytochrome into a resting mode. This makes them flower with about 10 hours darkness. I am looking into getting some far red lights for bed time in the grow room. It may allow me to run 13 hours light and 11 hours darkness with 15 minutes or more of far red light after the rest of the grow lights go out. But the point of the story is that when put to bed with far red light the plants are less susceptible to light disruption in the middle of the night. So outdoor plants can be slightly tolerant of stray light. But indoors our lights just cut off with no sunset. It can take them two hours to settle in and go into nighttime mode.

Always be careful trying to make outdoor inferences for indoor growing. Sometimes what is good for the goose is not good for the gander!

Personally I am very light phobic for the plants during flower. Give me pitch black, or pitch black with a little far red and I will be a happy camper. If I had a tent I would find some foam or other means of blocking light from entering the vents. No unwanted light allowed on my girls!

O.K. That is a rule I shouldn't break. I do close the vent that is exposed directly to the light, but leave open the 2 vents that are up against a dark wall. I just can't figure out a way to let air in for the filtration system without some openings. In nature they would have open air moving over them naturally and I figured that was one of the reasons for the filtration system other than just odor control. The open vents aren't exposed to hardly any light at all (think less than moonlight even), should I leave those open? and if not, where could I let air in for the air flow? Sorry to ask such dumb questions, I just don't understand the differences in in house growing vs what I picture nature does.

Airflow is super important at night and in the day. We definitely want to keep that going. Having them close to the dark wall is a good choice. I think you are going to be fine doing it that way.
