My First Time Growing

I found a few quickly that can give you an idea of trichome colors during the flowering. They start out clear, then they will turn milky or cloudy, and finally will start to turn amber:

Mostly clear with some cloudy:

Some milky/cloudy tops, and with some broken tops:

Some amber:

Got it now, Thanks Sis, Your right, I have nothing on them that look like that yet. But mine have only been in flower mode for 3 weeks. 1 quick question, Will these appear where the flowers are now? The pic's are great, but such a tight closeup I can't see where on the plant they are. Sorry for the dumb question. I could have just waited until they showed.

Smokeater, Do you have a magnifier/loupe?

The ones I find most useful for looking at trichomes are 20X-40X.

Magnifiers for reading are too low powered. Microscopes are mostly too high powered. The ones you use to see flaws in diamonds are just right :)

No, all I have is a normal magnifying glass. Never needed anything else before. Sorry

The trichomes are going to be all over the buds and the leaves Smokey. I'll bet when they start you'll see little sparkles happening that you had not noticed before.

:circle-of-love:

Cool, I was a little worried about not being able to see them with the naked eye and had figured I would need a magnifying glass as a minimum.

I forgot to ask, I was wondering if people trim back their leaves while still flowering? In most of the pictures I see as examples, I normally don't see a lot of leaves.

Moving right along folks, on to defoliation! Great questions Smokey. :)

Ah....to defoliate...or not to defoliate....a highly debated question.

We shorten it to "defol" usually, when you see that term you'll know what it means now.

I will catch up tomorrow here, have to get an internet job hunt done and I keep putting it off tonight. LOL I do some defol to my plants, it's probably quite similar to others you will hear from.

Thanks you! I will talk to you tomorrow.

I fall on the defol side of this Smoke... I strip em' naked as pole dancers...;) during veg I take off the leaves that are blocking light from a bud site or something... in bloom... I defol heavily at ~ 25 days in bloom and again at day 45... It opens the plant up for penetration of the lights and I have found it helps my weight noticably... but Canna is right... it is a highly debated thing here on 420 and a lot of folks think it is a terrible thing to do... I can't imagine not doing it....:passitleft: Night Smoke.....:circle-of-love:

Thanks Dennise (whenever you get this), I just have sooo many leaves that I think they are cutting back the light getting to the buds. I may start tomorrow slowly trimming them back. Good night my friend!

Just the fan leaves Smoke... and not toooo heavy until PJ sticks his nose back in here....:high-five:....Here's a pic of my King Tut about 4 weeks in flower and I have only done a light defol on her about a week ago and she is already filling back in....:circle-of-love:

Got it, Just enough to let some light hit the lower buds if I'm reading this correctly.

I'm on the opposite spectrum of the defoliation argument. i used to do it to all my photo-plants and and then decided to leave one alone to test and it yielded 9g more than the best defoled plant. just my experiences though, to each their own. now i let them yellow out till it takes a gentle pull to tug off.. they get ugly in flower but idm much and clearly defoliation works for alot of people,..

Thanks for the pic's & videos, I see what trichomes are now. I have quite a ways to go before I see that I think. But tomorrow I start trimming some leaves to get light down low. Mine are so bushy, no light is making it down to the lower buds. Fan leaves only (I assume they are the big ones)

What's a photo plant?

photoperiod is any normal strain plant that you must use 12/12 light to induce flowering. the opposite of an autoflower..

O.K., now I'm confused, I just put my normal plants into flower by switching them to 12/12 from 18/6 lighting and was told autoflowers were started and flowered in 12/12 from the start. So if it's the opposite that would mean autoflowers would be on something other than 12/12 at some point. Sorry to sound so stupid, but I just don't know this stuff yet. This is my first grow and just started on 1/1/16.
