My First Time Growing

Maybe that's why it's hard to ID my plants. I have had light leaks in the bookcase since the beginning, My grow is in my den/bedroom where I spend most of my time. At night I always have a small light on in my room when I'm awake. Maybe the plants are hermies because at night there is always a small amount of light getting in my bookcase if I'm awake. (I can't sleep in a bed because I can't lay flat and have to sleep in my recliner). Damn, I think I screwed them up because I had the light thing backwards.

Light leaks don't hurt during veg, Smokey. It's only in flower that it's a concern.

Oh your talking about your night light... No you have not hurt your babies... Try not to have the light on when the lights are out in the cabinet but think about it... if you had a plant outside is it ever going to see light at night? Of course... You don't particualarly want there to be nor to you want it all the time but it happens.... there are car lights... street lights if you live in the city... even the stars and moon... out here where I am that can be like having street lights some nights it is so bright... Calm down and your girls are fine.... I promise....:circle-of-love:

For the flower tent, turn off all the lights in the room when it is dark outside and the lights are on in the tent. If you can see any large amount of light escaping then you would want to use duct tape or something to block the holes. A couple of tiny pin-holes or very minor light escaping through the zippers isn't a big deal

Thanks PJ, I'm going to have to figure out a way to seal my bookcase at night so no light gets in, I had thought that you weren't supposed to have light leaks when the lights were on. At night the bookcase has the edges open about 3" on each side. I didn't think it was important because the plants are close to the light and I figured the light leak when the lights were on was ok since they are so close. I didn't understand that it was when it's dark I couldn't let light in. It makes sense, But I'm just worried now.

You can if you want. When the plants are in veg the light leaks are not an issue. It's the flower tent that is a concern.

I'm calm, Just was concerned that I screwed the plants up because I have a dim light on in the same room as the plants because that's where I spend most of my time (like now). Everything is in my Den/Bedroom. Oh well, I learned something knew and that's a good thing! :)

OH! I get it! with the exception of occasionally checking (just when it feels warm in here a couple times a week for a minute) the temp in the tent at night, I don't open that up at all at night. The plants in the bookcase are vegging so it's not a big deal then, Right?

Yup. If it feels a little warm during lights out and you check in the tent, has it ever been too hot in there? With the light off it would have to be like 90 degrees in your room for it to get too hot in the tent. When the lights are off leave the tent closed all the time.

Denise, why would you go to the corner?

I only check them when the temp in my room gets high, occasionally it hits 76 degrees in my room while the rest of the house is at 73. I recently covered a vent to avoid that from happening. And when I did check the temp in the tent, I usually just opened the bottom zipper a foot or so to see the temperature gauge and shut it right away.

I totally understand it now, I just had the light leak thing backwards. But the only light leaks are in the bookcase because the lights at the top stick out about a half an inch and the cover hangs from the top and as it gets towards the bottom of the cover it angles outwards about 3". But those are just vegging, so I should be good then. Back to having that happy feeling!
