My First Time Growing

Good morning all! I'm starting to feel more confident in my own judgement, but want to ask if I'm right about something just to be sure (I trust your judgement a lot more than mine still). I think it's time to top Minnie and want to be sure I'm right. I know their is no specific time that goes off and bang, It's time. but if it was you would you top her/him now? (see pictures) I also think that he/she should be transplanted into a bigger container in about 3 or 4 days at the rate she/he is growing.

I'm telling you what I think because I'm starting to have more faith in my own judgement but also want to be sure I'm not jumping the gun. If I'm right about this, it will be the last time I ask because then I know I understand these things finally. So I await your input. My faith in myself is just starting to get stronger but before I just jump in and do it, I wanted to make sure I'm right.

Thank you

Obviously I want to hear PJ's point of view before I actually do it (He's been my biggest adviser) but I also want to hear what the rest of you think too! The rest of you have guided me almost as much as PJ, so your opinion is important too! This is my first time to make a judgement call and just need to hear any positive or negative thought's.

Looking real good! What strain is it again?

I like the bulb, as Peejay said...maybe you can make use of that. I've seen people make reflectors for those out of something as simple as a soda can. I have several in those hanging aluminum housings that people use in barns and such. They are very cheap and they come in very small sizes. I'll try to find a pic and see if maybe you have one lying around? Up to you.

That's not a standard size bulb Canna. Well, it does screw into a standard receptical, but it is about the size of a 2 ltr soda bottle if I'm not mistaken. Those clamp on reflectors work well with those bulbs and cost about $9.00 each. There are a million ways to DIY fixtures for them as well. That's good stuff you have there, Smokey.

Ahhhh...got ya PeeJay. Here's the clamp on housing I was talking about:

It has an adapter inserted to hold two bulbs

Too bad you aren't near me Smokey, I would give ya some of these. I used to raise chickens and these were all over in the barn to keep chicks warm. ;-)

It's an unknown bagseed, David - likely a product of hermaphrodism. All four of Smoke's biggest plants are unknown. They look very indica dominant to me so far.

Also I want to give a big shout-out to David. He did an excellent job of helping me put together a seed order this week. Quick responses to my questions. Order shipped within 48 hours. Don't hesitate to contact him if you have questions about ordering from Bonza.

Here's a picture of the actual bulb:

If I'm not mistaken, the two small LED panels are above the shelf on the bookcase and there is a space below the shelf? If so the CFL(s) could go in the lower space?

I need to get my act together. Have a meeting in a bit and then need to head up and look in on Mom over the weekend. Probably won't be around much the next couple of days but will look in when I can.

No, don't put the amnesia in the tent. It'll stretch even more under a 12/12 schedule. Worse comes to worse you can always bury the stem. We're not in a hurry to get that one big. I'm curious, when you planted it did you do the pen marked to 3/4" thing? Planting too shallow is one of the things that leads to aggressive early stretch no matter if you've sprouted the seed before planting or not.

That is a great bulb. Do you have a fixture to screw it into? You can consider making a third little space where you use that bulb for seedlings and small plants in solo cups, and increase the room available in the bookcase. That would be awesome.

Amazon is pretty good about returns. It's a light bulb. You didn't need it right away when you ordered it. When you did need it it didn't work. There is no reason not to ask them. With two of those you could set up a very solid second early veg space which would increase your training options by leaps and bounds.

Yes, I have a pen with a blank sticker wrapped around it at 3/4". I used that to plant the seed like you had me do with the other 2. As far as a fixture goes, I have a clamp on light with reflector

I will dig the light out first before I ask Amazon, I had mentioned it didn't work to my wife when I tested it and don't know if she tossed it or not (She's watching The View right now and I don't like interrupting her for that and a couple of other shows she enjoys, But I'll ask her first before I try contacting Amazon (It was behind a bunch of stuff in the laundry room and a little hard for me to get at alone). If I can get another one and have 2, I may just redo the whole bookcase and dedicate the lower portion to this also. If I do, we have some white paint, I'll probably paint the whole inside white. The biggest problem with it will be figuring out how to make another front for the new portion. The top fronting has a big piece of the back to a large poster (The part with the hanger) covered in Mylar now. I'll have to see if I have another one. The hardest part is going to be finding it all again because I needed help getting to it the first time and can hear her now, "Do you really need it today?". LOL

But at least it's a plan and if she did toss it, maybe next month I'll be able to buy another one. But I like the idea, I hadn't thought of using the other part of the bookcase too.

The two small LED panels are at the very top of the bookcase with one shelf removed to make the room you see in the bookcase picture. And yes, I explained it in my previous post that the bottom is available also.

When I bought the bulbs back in '14, I also bought 2 reflectors (link to them in post #925). I just have to find them if they didn't get lost in the move, but I'm almost positive I saw them behind everything in the laundry room when we were moving in. Thank You very much Canna.

O.K., She doesn't remember if she tossed it or not. She was busy doing stuff and said she may have. I just tried looking myself, but to get to the things I need, most of the stuff in the back of the laundry room has to be moved from where they are at (under the upper staircase). It probably won't happen today as my son is getting ready to help get the tent up on the table right now and isn't in the best mood to be asking for more favors (like I said in an earlier post, he also suffers from milder depression) and he doesn't want to do much today on his day off (can't say I blame him). I told him not to worry about the tent today, but he ignored me and set up the table, put the plywood on it and is waiting for me to help by telling him where to put the plants and stuff. I'll be back later. Gotta go for now.

Also, there are lots of ways to train plants. If someone wants to walk you through a different way, there is no reason not to try it. Just need to keep in mind that there is only a max 1' x 1' footprint in the bookcase to work with. Jordan will be moving into the flower tent in about a week.

In fact, trying something different would be a good learning experience.

If anybody suggests slamming her into the lights, don't do it regardless of how well it turned out for me in the end.

Too unpredictable. :)

Thanks arteekay, I wouldn't even try that if it was suggested.
Regardless of how good yours turned out! But no promises AFTER I have medicine and am using it! LOL

OK, Tent is up on table, with a side shelf to hold my water, pots, etc. (The top duct in pic is just hooked up to act as a mild "muffler" and does help with sound considering it's also where I watch TV when we watch different things:

Here is Casey before I tried LST to fit rectangular.

This is Harley after first time trying to make a rectangle, I was just wondering if this is what was meant (since it's the first time I could sit and try, it's obviously not trained much yet.

Opinions? Also, I forgot to ask PJ when he was on, but my light is 11" above the very tops of my plants. What is a good height for a Mars 144 X 5w if anyone knows? I just wondered if it should be higher....

The pictures should be OK on here as no one I would worry about has a clue what my room looks like.

Thanks guys, It took a little team work to get the tent up there and I'm going to be taking a break from the PC for a little while. Please leave any opinions for me.
Be back a little later.

Smokey
