My First Time Growing

Awesome to see that your really enjoying yourself and hopefully everything will get better with time and a little something something. I had back surgery last year an I'm still on pain pills. They want to go back in and cut me up some more but I told them no. The only thing that works is my little happy plants.

David

I've seen so many doctors since I've been hurt and over half of them recommended surgery, But knowing patients from working on them as well as the people I've met/know with back problems and heard their stories about surgery, I decided against it. The best odds the Doc's could give me was that surgery gave me a 50/50 chance of either helping or making it worse. Those odds are way to small (it comes down to the flip of a coin) on the chance of improvement VS making it worse and I opted out of surgery (and my current doc agrees with the decision I made. I wouldn't have ANY quality of life it it made it worse).

I just got back from Home Depot and now I have all the stuff I need to lift the tent up on top of the table with a shelf on the one side to hold my plant water or anything else I may need on hand ( One of PJ's great suggestions) so I can sit in front of it when I have to do stuff in the tent. I also got everything I need to run the ventilation outside, along with 3 1-gallon pots and their bottoms. (the pots have big holes in the bottom even) It even cost us less than I had thought it would.

My wife has been so supportive about all this (now), so much that I love her more than I thought I ever could. Hopefully I'll have the tent on top of the table tonight. I just need to wait until my helper is available to assist me. I love it when a plan comes together!

...I love it when a plan comes together!

In comedy we call that a "callback". Nicely done Smokeater!

Also great job on getting all the parts and pieces to make the plan come together. Trips to Home Despot can be troubling. Walking their aisles just reminds me of all the work I need to do on the house. You came home with the goods! Now to put the plan into action and move that tent, which is a great idea for sure. :thumb:

I was surprised my wife told me we could afford these things since we are so strapped for cash, But she knows (and wants it too) how much I want to quit the narc's. Every step forward is a step closer to my goal. In the long run, If it works the way I've heard people say it would, I will even be able to cut back on some of my non narcotic meds that I have to take daily. The startup cost was high, but an awesome person helped me with the problem of not being able to buy anything expensive (If not for this person who wants to remain anonymous, I wouldn't even have a grow!). But it should also save us money on all the co pays I have each month for my meds. In the long term, I think this will save us money. It cost's us at minimum $200.00 or more a month for all my co pays. Hopefully I will be able to pay it forward in the near future. If not financially, hopefully I'm learning enough to help others get up and growing on a tight budget.
Thanks,
Smokey

:goodjob: Always nice to hear that things cost less than expected, truly an accomplishment you need!

Take a break, rest...relax.... and pat yourself on the back for a successful day.

And be careful when you start working that plan together.

Thanks Canna, Your right. I should slow down so I don't hurt myself. I did more today than I have in quite a while. As has become the norm, You always remind me to take it easy and I really appreciate that! Like I said before, I'm just use to "responding" quickly. I may or may not get the tent on the table tonight. It's going to depend on how I'm feeling. I am sore now. :circle-of-love:

Thanks
Smokey

You really do have the best of the best here with ya Smoke and the best part of that... None of the yucky ones are here so we all like hanging out in here...:yahoo:....slow down ya move to fast... ya gotta make this moment last now... so listen to Canna and take a rest...:)...:circle-of-love:

I know, I'm extremely lucky to have all you guys helping me! I am learning so much from so many great people! The hardest part for me IS slowing down. But your right, I should be slower and enjoy the ride (keeping my hands and feet inside the car at all times  )

But seriously, I am working on it (slowing down), but it's sort of ingrained in me to do things fast. Old habits die hard. But I am taking a rest this evening. My helper is off work tomorrow, So I'm not going to worry about moving stuff around at all tonight. Thanks for the reminder about taking a rest. I was just about to do some measuring on how high the light is, but I'll wait. It really means a lot to me that so many excellent people are looking over my shoulder and keeping an eye on me. THAT is the reason my grow is doing so well. Great advice/help and support. Those make all the difference in the world!
Thank You!
Smokey

Give Mrs. Smoke a big hug from me and tell her how lucky you are to be able to share the experience of making you both healthier and happier with her...:circle-of-love:

I will, Thank you. It's the support like this that makes me love this site more and more!

Good morning all! I'm starting to feel more confident in my own judgement, but want to ask if I'm right about something just to be sure (I trust your judgement a lot more than mine still). I think it's time to top Minnie and want to be sure I'm right. I know their is no specific time that goes off and bang, It's time. but if it was you would you top her/him now? (see pictures) I also think that he/she should be transplanted into a bigger container in about 3 or 4 days at the rate she/he is growing.

I'm telling you what I think because I'm starting to have more faith in my own judgement but also want to be sure I'm not jumping the gun. If I'm right about this, it will be the last time I ask because then I know I understand these things finally. So I await your input. My faith in myself is just starting to get stronger but before I just jump in and do it, I wanted to make sure I'm right.

Thank you

Obviously I want to hear PJ's point of view before I actually do it (He's been my biggest adviser) but I also want to hear what the rest of you think too! The rest of you have guided me almost as much as PJ, so your opinion is important too! This is my first time to make a judgement call and just need to hear any positive or negative thought's.

G' Morning Smokey. :)

Because PeeJay is the leading General in this mission, I'm going to leave that to his direction for you as well. But, I did want to ask...how many nodes has she got? Based on the leaves, I think there's 4?

I just topped a couple at 4, but also did one at 3 nodes. So far, so good.

Minnie is looking fabulously healthy!

I tried to take a pic that showed the nodes, but it was all blurry. Your right, Minnie has 4 nodes now. (counting the small bottom one) It's hard to believe it is the same plant that I was sure wasn't going to make it.

Thanks Canna!

Did you do the order online for in-store pick-up thing when you went to Home De Pot, Smoke? Did it work?

How's the Amnesia doing. No crazy early stretch?

We want to look at Jordan soon - might want to give it a second round of topping.

Also, there are lots of ways to train plants. If someone wants to walk you through a different way, there is no reason not to try it. Just need to keep in mind that there is only a max 1' x 1' footprint in the bookcase to work with. Jordan will be moving into the flower tent in about a week.

In fact, trying something different would be a good learning experience.

No, I couldn't find the bottoms for the pots I wanted online (The ones I ended up buying were on sale and online I still can't find them) and just figured it would be easier to see them first in person (and their prices as I was looking at them). The same went for the ventilation 4" duct I needed along with the tightening band. When we shop we like to see all the options and prices together before we commit to them. I also knew I was going to have to go far into the store anyways to get the plywood cut to the dimensions I needed anyways because their was no place online I could ask them to cut it to my sizes. It's just easier to use one of their electric scooters and see what I need.

The Amnesia is stretching under the bookcase lights (I'm glad you brought that up, I meant to ask you about this). Can it go into the tent under the 12/12 while were trying to get the big ones to flower? The bookcase lights are like you said originally, just not bright enough I think. If I had the money, I would just buy better lights for the bookcase, but I don't (and don't want a donation from anyone else either, It's nobody elses responsibility but me).
I don't think there is enough room, but I do have a circular (the kind that curls around itself that I see here on other threads all the time) hydroponic grow light and a clamp with reflector to hold it I just found when I was searching for something the other day I could use, but I just can't think of a way to make it fit without blocking the lights in there now.
You can see the bulb: Amazon: Hydroponic Full Spectrum CFL Grow Light Bulb 60 Watt Bulb 5500K H60

I had bought it back in '14 when I was saving and getting stuff way before I started and completely forgot about it until the other day when I found it. I bought 2, but I tried them and one doesn't work and I doubt after 2 years, Amazon would let me return it. It was only $13.99 anyways and probably not strong enough to help anyways.

I will be taking some pics later today and will include Jordan in the pic's.

Sounds good to me. I plan to start seriously training the big ones today anyways since I'll be able to sit in a chair and do it later after we get it up on the table. My son's off today and after he gets up (he sleeps in on his days off) we'll hit that.

No, don't put the amnesia in the tent. It'll stretch even more under a 12/12 schedule. Worse comes to worse you can always bury the stem. We're not in a hurry to get that one big. I'm curious, when you planted it did you do the pen marked to 3/4" thing? Planting too shallow is one of the things that leads to aggressive early stretch no matter if you've sprouted the seed before planting or not.

That is a great bulb. Do you have a fixture to screw it into? You can consider making a third little space where you use that bulb for seedlings and small plants in solo cups, and increase the room available in the bookcase. That would be awesome.

Amazon is pretty good about returns. It's a light bulb. You didn't need it right away when you ordered it. When you did need it it didn't work. There is no reason not to ask them. With two of those you could set up a very solid second early veg space which would increase your training options by leaps and bounds.
