My First Time Growing

Cool, I just had to adjust the front of my bookcase when I noticed that the amnesia has sprouted. The 707 Truthband will be Sam (like in Samantha) and the Amnesia will be Groot :rofl: I know it's a male name, but I just watched the movie (If you know where it's from) and like the character, also it's a feminized seed (If it says feminized, does that mean it is a female for sure or just likely to be?)

They are supposed to be female, but there really is no guarantee. Chances are extremely high that it's a female seed. :) It's kind of rare that I have seen anyone get a dude from them.

Oh, here is the other photo. This is a closer shot of a dude plant early preflower. I hope these help with some future visuals for you.

(I didn't have time to search my album, that was from another thread a while back)

And Congratulations!!!

Thank you, I was just wondering what it meant when they say feminized. Yes, the picture does help. It gives me a way to detect males also. I want to learn about both sexes of plant.

Thank you for the congrats, That means I have 2 feminized seedlings going for sure. The big and middle ones are still unknown. But just knowing that 2 ARE (most likely) female is good to know.

what was that? You got to speak up so that those of us down here on row 20, seat 37 can hear!

Front row seat just opened up Emilya, I'm just here from early moral support. :)

I think it got buried in posts, but the Amnesia has sprouted. So I have 1 seedling and 1 REALLY little seedling going again. When a seed is "feminized" does that mean it will be female or just likely to be female?

Very likely to be female, my research indicates somewhere around 1 in a thousand will be male, and hermies are the most likely cause of accidental fertilization.

Thanks Arteekay, I appreciate the research. I just didn't know what feminized meant in terms of what the chances were of them being female. Now I know, Thank you!!

Actually, a feminized seed has no male chromosomes in it... it can't be male. But...
Every seedling reaches a decision point shortly after popping out... and sometimes a plant will react because of something in its environment, and will swing the other way. And then, if a plant is made to veg for too long, it can also reach that same decision... and also a flowering plant can react to stressors and decide to pollinate itself... So it's not entirely up to the chromosomes.

Thank you Emilya, That is interesting. I had no idea the plant could do that.
I will have to play Yanni or something the plants find soothing for them to relieve stress! :rofl:
But seriously, Thank you!

Smokey

LOL! Yanni? One of my growing favorites is Cola Monster. He's currently out of commission journaling due to a computer malfunction. Amazing stuff from CM. He swears his plants thrive on classic rock - Aerosmith, BTO... But they hear for the Chairman of the Board now and then too.

Your plants aren't stressed in the least and feminized seeds are so rarely male that they are the way you want to roll in your situation, Smoke. You don't ever have to paw them looking to see what sex they are.

What an AWESOME video! If that is your grow, I humbly say "I'm not worthy" over and over again!!!

I've never heard of Cola Monster personally, Actually I'm a huge fan of Eric Johnson, Joe Satriani, SRV, etc. plus all classic rock. I also enjoy old metal, just not most of the new stuff.

I wasn't worried about my plants being stressed, I had just asked what it meant if a seed was feminized. If that meant it was a female for sure or just likely to be. Canna, Shiggity, Arteekay and Emilya were just explaining it to me. Now I know. Thank you for the info as well as the excellent video with Frank singing. That was very cool.

No, that's some Cola Monster stuff. Cola is a grower not a band. I WISH it was mine. The outdoor videos are from summer 2015 - one of the hottest and driest outdoor grows he's ever experienced.

Been a bunch of sex talk here lately. :bigblush:

Emilya is correct. A feminized seed has no male chromosomes. It is almost always female unless something goes haywire in it's environment,or, you let it get really old past it's harvest point and it goes into a panic and decides it must make a "last ditch effort" to reproduce.

The interesting thing is what I was saying a few pages back about hermaphrodite seeds and how the bag seeds you have are likely the product of asexual (hermaphroditic) reproduction. They are likely to be female but have a hermie "chink" in their genetic pool. It's complicated.

The short answer about feminized seeds is that the exceptions to them being female are very, very rare as RTK pointed out. Plant a feminized seed and you get a female. You don't really worry about it. There are rare "oh shit" occurrences with feminized seed plants. If you have good growing conditions and healthy plants then it's so rare that most of us don't pay it any mind.

But mostly they listen to classic rock.

Their just aren't words................................ It's almost scary to watch those videos!!! Good taste in music too. Even Willie will do on occasion. I honestly don't even know how to respond to seeing those video's. Those go way beyond the simple word "Awesome!" But I'm extremely happy with my minuscule grow in comparison. I just can't wait to be able to quit the narc's. In a few months I imagine being able to start cutting back on the meds. But thank you for sharing those video's. WOW is about all I can say!!!

Awesome stuff there! Here is the muppet you are looking for;

@Cola Monster

Bob ;)

LOL. I love the muppet! Funny story. When he was seeking a name for his GPD/ Super Silver Haze cross he asked for suggestions. I thought hmmmm. Granddaddy Purps and Silver... The Silver Fox! Can't take any credit for his skills in breeding or growing it. But, I suggested the name.

Things are looking great Smokey, in your spare time you may want to read through Cannafan's Blog Entries, lots of great info in there. As I've been learning here on 420 Mag, if I find something interesting I would blog it so I could go back and re read them at a later time.

It won't be long Smokey and you'll find yourself on somebody's journal helping just like these fine folks are helping you.

:Love::cco::Love:

Side Note: Congratulations for getting extra seeds to keep things rolling.

I'm glad you think mine will turn out female. That just cuts down on grow time to be able to start quitting my meds. It's no secret that that is my goal. You have helped me beyond belief with this. Thank you! I'm feeling very positive about how things will turn out with my plants. It is also helping my depression just thinking about getting off the narc's. I don't remember if you responded to my post before about the Amnesia sprouting. It showed it's pretty little head this afternoon. So that's 2 females for sure then in the seedlings and good hopes for the others.

Besides my first goal of getting off my narc's (sorry if that sounded selfish), my dream is to pay it forward and help others with this. I have read quite a bit of most of the peoples threads that show up here. I don't post much since I'm too new to have anything intelligent to offer yet, But down the road, that's what I want to be able to do. Help other people get up and running. But I've only been growing since the 1st of January and still have a lot to learn. I appreciate people like yourself and all the other great growers helping me to get to my goal and be narcotic free (Not in legal definition since they label weed as a schedule 1 narc), but in my head it's not a narcotic. It's safer than alcohol and in all my years working, I NEVER saw anyone OD on marijuana and I've seen so many OD's, mostly alcohol surprisingly, but everything BUT marijuana.

I'll keep that in mind to blog stuff that's informative. PJ suggested the same thing a while back and I just keep forgetting to do so. Like today's lesson on determining the sex of the plant. I'm going to go back and blog that because it was so useful.

Thanks for the suggestion, I really do appreciate it.

I just reread what you wrote. I didn't realize I could read someone else's blog. I will definitely look into that. Thank you!

You have plenty to offer! More going on in grow journals than just the plant. That is what makes your journal so interesting. Don't ever hesitate to just say hi if you are ever in my neck of the woods. Comment on anything you want and you are likely to say something helpful to someone before you know it.

:high-five:
