My First Time Growing

You're too quick for me. LOL I edited my post with some instruct.

The first thing to do is check your settings, Smokey. On the top right of the screen directly under the 420 Magazine banner click on "forums" and then select "subscribed threads" from the drop down menu. It takes you to a page that shows all of your subscribed threads. If you post in a thread you are automatically subscribed to it.

Right above the list of threads on the green bar is the word "notifications." If you look at the threads it says what kind of notifications you are getting, immediately by email, weekly, etc.

You can change the way you're notified by checking the little box on the far right of each thread listed. Then you scroll to the bottom of the list and there is a button with bold black letters "selected threads"

Click on that and there is another drop down menu. You want to look under "update subscription type" There you can choose how to get notified - instantly, daily, weekly, etc. Don't know if it's helpful or not. Personally I hate the email notifications. I have everything set to "through my control panel only"

When I log on I always look at my subscribed thread list first. If there are new posts in any of the threads they are bold bright green and I can just click and go to the last page.

You'll notice that from the "selected threads" drop down you can also delete a subscription to a thead you no longer want to follow. You may already know all this stuff but it took me a while to get it figured out when I was a noob.
 
I do it the way that PeeJay does and drop into my "User CP" (shows updated threads) or under settings "Subscribed Threads" (shows all subscriptions if they have been updated or not). The email notification is a bit odd as it doesn't send you an email with each post, only with a new post since your last visit. Then you will not get another notification email until you visit the journal and the "counter" is reset as I understand it.

man alive, what a busy place! I am lined up here on the back wall lookin as cute as I can until a seat becomes available.
 
Who's the cutie against the back wall over there? I'd offer up my front row seat for her, but I'm kinda hoping she just takes the initiative and sits in my lap instead!

Thanks to both of you, I'll play around with those settings and see if I need to change anything. I personally like the emails for now so I don't miss something in the journal I might need to know. Once I understand everything better, I'll probably set it up like you guys have it. Thanks for the help, I didn't know those options were there. But like I said, for now I just don't want to miss any posts in the journal since I'm still so new and learning. I forgot this in my post initially, but the mail notifications seems to be working again, But I'm still going to look at the settings and make sure they are the way I want.

Welcome Emilya, I don't know if you read the pages up to this point, but basically I'm one of the luckiest guys around to have so many of the best helping me out with my first grow. Feel free to chime in as much or as little as you want to, I enjoy getting as many perspectives as I can. I'm on a real tight budget and am trying to get off narc's from a work injury I had and have been taking schedule 2 narcs for a long time now and because of what they are doing to my body, I want off them asap and these wonderful people are helping me to get to where I will be able to quit them. Hope to hear more from you!

Thanks for the warm welcome! Usually I troll the new postings looking for people having difficulties, and I tend to stay out of well established threads and conversations, being the shy wallflower that I am, but I couldn't help notice how fast the message count was growing in this thread... I had to check it out! Did I mention that although shy, I compensate by being curious to the point of being nosey?
So far the rest of the folks have said the things I would have... and it looks like you have a great start so far!
 
Hey Smokey, if you still experience any problems even with all of the great info you got, I would give it a day before posting a website help post. With the maintenance they are shutting down for tonight, it might resolve everything.

And I also have everything set to "Control panel only". I just come here to read the current posts in my subscribed threads. :)

Good idea Canna, It seems to be working now. But if I have the problem again, I'll wait until they are done updating or whatever they are shutting the site down for to tell them about it.

Ask away if your curious about anything, But it looks like you are experienced already from the number of posts and how long you've been a member. Your right about the grow, Everything is progressing great with it because of all the help I've gotten from all the people I'm lucky enough to have had find my journal.

Just pokin fun Smoke! We have to have fun on this site. If growing this beautiful plant and hanging around helping our friends do the same isn't fun then how can anything be fun!

The easy way to tell if I am making a joke is that I typed and posted something. If you aren't laughing it is likely my fault and I swear it will be funnier next time.

I knew you were joking, I just haven't figured out yet how to make the emoticon for falling down laughing. I haven't seen it in the emoticon box or when you hit more. That's why I added the LOL
