My First Time Growing

Thanks Hydro, What are you using as a soil? I've never seen that before (probably because I've only been here for 4 months, Not very new anymore but still inexperienced).

Straight perlite for everything. Here are a couple clones at 14 days when I potted up to a milk jug.
I make solo cup hempy style with one 1/4 hole 1/2 inch up from bottom of cup filled with straight perlite rinsed with tap water.
Poke hole in perlite for the stem to fit
I snip cutting at an angle then dip in root stim powder
Place into perlite hole made for stem
Pack perlite around stem
I follow nutrients for clones. I use another solo cup filled about 2/3 with nutriant solution. I place solo cup with fresh cutting into it to soak to the top so all perlite is wet, pull it out and let drain. ( I have used straight tap water with good results, leaves are just more yellow)
Place under light. (I use 2-20 watt t8)
Final result 14 days later.

Thanks for the info! In my original reply, I had said it looked like perlite, but erased it because I didn't think that would work. I'm impressed! Those look great! Does perlite come in smaller sizes? The stuff I have doesn't look that small, more like pebbles.

Looking good smoke. In my experience cloning, witch may not apply to your situation. I clone alot differently, but anyways. Mine seem to take 5-7 days to sprout good 1"+ roots, then go into soil where they set almost do nothing for a week or so. Then out of no where they begin growing like a weed almost out of control. Lol its awesome, I'm happy to see your getting the hang of it to. I'm working on somehow crossing the 2 strains I've became fond of out of my bagseed stash. There great growing and good smoking plants on there own, but I think somehow crossing them would create a keeper. Good job on the clone smokey...:thumb:

I missed responding to your post Jon, sorry. Thanks for the thoughts!

That's nice roots you did there Hydro1000. :)

I've seen that method before, but stuck with the bubble cloner. I'll have to try that someday and see which gets the quickest action. I don't use any kind of nutrients for the clones while rooting, just plain ol' rainwater with 100% success rate.

That little one I posted a pic of was from a top that I had tried a graft with. It didn't take, so I cut it short and put it in the cloner. Had roots within about a week. Was surprised I saved it.

You're doing great smokey! Hope the wife is better and glad you got the email thing resolved.

BTW, Smokey...
In case you don't know what "Hempy style" means, it's growing without soil in a passive hydroponics system. Using perlite, sometimes coco or other things, and nutrients for the reservoir that have to be replenished.

VERY BASIC explanation. Key words there "without Soil". :)

She is fine now, Sometimes it just takes a while to get the sugar into her, like this time, she likes to fight about it because she is like a mean drunk when it happens - strangely she was a happy drunk when she used to drink a lot :)

But I got it figured out thanks to you. Thank you again! Since I've been subscribing to more threads, I see what you meant when you once said it would drive you nuts (or something like that) if you constantly got an email for every post in your subscribed threads. I'm not subscribed to nearly as many as I imagine you are, Only 9 so far, but my email was piling up like crazy the last week.

Thanks Canna, I didn't know what Hempy style meant and felt like it would sound stupid to ask. But now I understand. Thanks!

This is the small perlite you can get bigger but haven't seen it around my area. My DWC was giving me issues without a chiller so this is my poor mans hydro lol. I can handle this haha.

Hope the Mrs. Is feeling better.

Thanks for the info Hydro, I have only seen the larger (or at least the size of mine) perlite (LOL). But I'm happy to know that works! And the wife is back to normal already, Thanks

I have a question, I tried turning off email notifications in my CP under general settings and changed the default thread subscription mode to control panel only but that must not be it because I'm still getting an email for every post made on the threads I'm subscribed to. I turned it back to it's original setting, but am wondering how to turn off the email notifications? I just want to check them with the subscribed threads page now, The emails are constantly pouring in now.
Thanks for any help anyone can provide!

Smoke I just had a long "laugh out loud" moment after reading this...sorry... but I can just picture you kicking back, getting 500 emails a day and trying to get rid of them all. Your journal rocks!

OK, I'm back, My son had just came in and told me her blood sugar seemed low. We took care of it, but she's a fighter when trying to get her to eat/drink anything when she's like that so it took a little while to get her blood sugar back up. She's fine now though.

I know that all too well from growing up. Dad trying to make Mom drink OJ or eat candy during a reaction. She was determined not to, because OJ and sugar were bad for diabetics. In the end she always gave in and recovered.

Glad that Mrs. Smoke is fine!:thumb:

I crave carbs when mine drops... I might be dangerous if you get between me and the refrigerator but no trouble getting me to eat just to stop......as far as your clones... You're doing a great job...:circle-of-love:

I really wish my wife was like you then, when hers drops, first she insists it's not low and then she fights me about eating/drinking anything. And then if I still can't get her to eat or drink anything we have to resolve to the glucagon shot so she doesn't start having seizures. (or worse, like in the middle of the night when her pancreas seems to peak it's insulin production around 2:30 or 3:00 AM she wakes us up screaming the most bloodcurdling scream you've ever heard and is already seizing. I feel so bad for her when that happens because I know she's going to feel like crap the whole next day plus she seems to have an even bigger chance of other reactions. I wasn't sure if you told me on the board or in a PM that your diabetic, that's why I didn't name you in my post in case you were just keeping it to yourself.

Good morning! Nothing is new here, except the clone lives on, She is a little stressed out still, But I'm pretty sure she will perk up and live. (Thanks to everyone that's helped me with clone!). Here is a photo of her that I just took:

Also, I'm keeping the soil saturated to be sure she's getting enough to drink until she is all perked up

You can let her dry out now

You can let her dry out now

Thanks Radogast, I thought they needed a lot of water in the soil because of the lack of the new roots that will grow, Thank you for letting me know, I will start letting her dry out. I assume I should water her like a normal seedling now?

I have drowned newly planted clones.

I have 'burned' newly planted clones in too fertile a soil.

I have stunted a clone with high PH water.

I have not damaged a clone from letting the soil dry.

So yes, water her like a normal seedling. Make those roots search for water.
