My First Time Growing

Nothing technical about hanging a light - it's the choice which can be technical. :)

If you want to read a good survey of choices, try the first two posts by Hosebomber The Basics of Plant Lighting

I'll sleep while you read

Good Night !

That's the technical part I meant, The choices! I will read the link you provided, Thank You!

OK, just an update on the girls vegging in the bookcase (Tent is still sleeping for another 4 hours). First is the Amnesia clone, which I've named Don (Long o ) Member:

I have one germinating, but it is taking it's sweet time getting above the soil. But all in all. I hope I have the timing right for them

I really wish my wife was like you then, when hers drops, first she insists it's not low and then she fights me about eating/drinking anything. And then if I still can't get her to eat or drink anything we have to resolve to the glucagon shot so she doesn't start having seizures. (or worse, like in the middle of the night when her pancreas seems to peak it's insulin production around 2:30 or 3:00 AM she wakes us up screaming the most bloodcurdling scream you've ever heard and is already seizing. I feel so bad for her when that happens because I know she's going to feel like crap the whole next day plus she seems to have an even bigger chance of other reactions. I wasn't sure if you told me on the board or in a PM that your diabetic, that's why I didn't name you in my post in case you were just keeping it to yourself.

Nope it certianly is nothing I am ashamed of... It just is what it is... My drop time is about 3 or 4 in the afternoon... If I don't eat then I know it is going to drop... I do feel blessed that I have alwasy been able to tell when my sugar is dropping and I pretty much have figured my metabalism out to be able to know when I have to eat and my only real issue with controlling it is my reactions to insulin some days... Don't know why it happens sometimes and not others and no one has ever been able to figure it out... I also have to be careful about smoking herb that time of day... if I do... it is almost certain to drop if I don't drink a glass of orange juice or something first... Anyhow I'm really glad she has you there to tend to her cause it does sound like she is terribly brittle....:goodjob:....:circle-of-love:

Your right, She is extremely brittle and regardless of what people say thinking about her reactions (Other than other diabetics, they don't understand the reactions) where she acts druk and disoriented. They just don't grasp what a reaction looks like. I'm glad you mentioned how the disease is affected by weed, because my wife might have a problem with the CCO if it turns out to lower her B.S 's too much (but wouldn't it be cool if weed turned out to be the answers to all the diabetic troubles? (wishful thinking!)
Those of us here will just have to keep a more watchful eye on her her when she first starts using the CCO. ( We check on her now quite frequently) but thanks to Dennise I'll be keeping a more watchful eye on her when the CCO comes around), I make her take her B.S every few hours now to be sure she is OK since it happens so frequenly.
Thanks Dennise!

Good Morning Smokey. :)

Nice update. What do you have germing?

:circle-of-love:

I'm trying to germinate a New York Power Diesel. This a the second one I've tried to germinate. The first one never popped (after 2 weeks while in the water) and I want to grow a Sativa. I even put this one one in water again to see the the tap root before I planted it. Hopefully this one will grow!

I just found out some good news! When I was first looking at that Mars light for the bottom of my bookcase, I had showed it to my wife , She had my son look it back up and she ordered it for me thru him for our anniversary (30 years at the beginning of March). It cost almost the same as the necklace I got her and she then just told me to wait a while for something I needed. Well, it came in today. It's only the 300 watts light but should help along with the CFL's in the bookcase bottom (29" wide x 39 " high and 12" deep) and especially when I'm looking for new lights for the bigger tent. Did I ever say how great my wife is? :).. I have no clue where she pulled the money from, But she said it wasn't a debt we owed and I could rest easy because she had been saving for our 30th.

Congratulations Smokey! What a great Mrs. you have! I'll bet that put smiles all around. Woo hoo. :)

You bet it did, I had completely forgotten about what she had said around our anniversary and the light was a complete shock! She is the best wife I could hope for (which is why she's my best friend too), I only hope to live up to her standards in retribution. Her B-Day isn't that far away and I hope to get her something she really wants, But it's difficult when she won't say what she wants. Hopefully I'll get something out of her that she really wants even if it cuts into my savings for other stuff. She is number 1 on my priority list!!!

I appreciate it Jimmie, But the fruits of my labor are from ALL the people who have guided/advised/helped me thru everything. Without them, I probably wouldn't have a grow at all! The people here are fantastic and are willing to bend over backwards to help guys like us get the great info we need instead of just trial and error. They are special people indeed!

Agreed 100% Smoke - but your hands did the work so you get some credit here too, mister! I appreciate all the people here also, this site has the best of the best and I'm lucky to have found it.

Happy belated anniversary to you and Mrs. Smoke!

Thank you Jimmie! Hitting 30 years really put it all in perspective for me at least. I couldn't have found a better wife if I had tried!! I even have a great granddaughter already, not counting all the grand kids (lots). Even with all life has thrown at me, My family makes it all worthwhile!! In case anyone is doing the math, It's because my wife is older than me and already had some kids before we got married. I don't want to put ages in here for precaution. But all my grand kids and great grand daughter are "step kids" but we don't like using that phrase since we all think of each other just as a normal family :circle-of-love:. (with an extra Grandpa and Grandma from my wife's ex)

Jimmie, Shhhhhhh...........:shhh:........Smokey hasn't figured out yet that he's got the green thumb and is a damn fine grower on his own merits.

When he figures that out..........LOOK OUT plants! There's a new sheriff in town!

I modestly take some of the credit for my plants, but I still think it's primarily because of all the help I've received. I do have faith in myself a lot more than I had when I started. I can water plants on my own now :) Plus a little defoil and transplanting. I have the faith I will someday be similar (but experience takes time) as you guys, But I'm not there yet :rofl::rofl: but it's fun to contemplate Sis! Once I have naked eye visible sugar, I will feel a lot different, I still worry about the trichs as the 2 oldest plants have been in flower since 2/16/16. Once we've passed THAT hurdle I'll feel a lot more confident! But I appreciate the confidence in me and I'm sure the trichs will pop up one day! :circle-of-love: (Getting more free with the circles of love)

OK, Here's the pic first is of the bottom of the bookcase with the LED installed, The second pic is of Harley, She's the one that has been in flower since 2/16/16 but started showing yellow leaves. I didn't worry about it at first, But now I was hoping to get someones opinion if sge is still alright.

I even took the pic in natural light so you could see the colors easier.
Thanks!!

First of all smokey I got a tear in my eye thinking about your wonderful wife giving you that present. It must have been the most amazing feeling! What a fine lady ms. Smokey must be.

Harley is going through the natural decline of a plant that is in flower. They sacrifice their leaves to get nutrients to build more buds. It is a sign that the buds are maturing for you.

Thanks Shiggity, I kind of thought the leaves had something to do with the flowering cycle, (Hopefully they will start building up more trich's now,) But just wanted to be sure. And as far as my wife goes, You couldn't be more right, she is fantastic! She even told me today to start getting prices for a new light in the new tent. She said we could probably afford about $175.00 for a light (She must have been puttting money aside also!). Mars got back to me and originally they were very proactive about finding me a decent light cheap that had dings or scratches, etc. in it to get rid of, But today, they emailed me telling me that all their old lights had been shipped back to the factory and they quoted $310.00 on a light that goes for $326.00 on the auction site (Not sure if I can say their name, but can find it on the auction site by searching for) Reflector 192 Led Grow Light Mars Hydro Indoor Hydroponic 405w±5% True Watt Lamp

I've been looking at cheaper lights and found two on cramazon that are T5 8 tube 4' hanging light fixtures that comes with hangers and a plug. So that's probably one of the one I'll end up with. You can see it by searching there website (cramazon) for
iPower GLT5XX4X8 T5 Fluorescent 8-Tube Fixture Bloom Veg w/ Bulbs, 4-Feet, Powder Coated UL Listed Steel Housing, 10' Grounded Power Cord. Rated Wattage: 432W. Fluorescent 6400K 54W Tubes Included, Dual On/Off Switches

Or the other one I'm looking at is
Hydrofarm FLP48 T5 Designer 4ft 8-Tube System w/Bulbs

They both look like the right light for me to light up the one side of the tent I'll be using for vegging. If someone that is knowledgeable about lights could look at them and let me know which is the best (they are very close in price) I would greatly appreciate it. BTW, The tent came today, I just haven't opened it yet.
