My First Plant - Cookie Killer (Auto)

I too leave most leaves, at least the upper ones, on the plant for them to draw from. Any that are blocking bud sites get supercropped out of the way, giving the best of both worlds, the nutrient bank is still attached to the plant but is out of the way of bud sites allowing those sites access to more direct light.

It appears that whether one chooses to remove leaves or supercrop them, the purpose is to get more light to the buds sites ultimately.

Here's a new development. The pistils on the very top bud are turning brown and looking a little haggard. The other lower buds are all perfect and lush.

I'm thinking I have too much light at 12" and 961 PPFD ) 70 DLI.

That happens naturally as the buds mature.
How long has she been in flower?

About 3 1/2 weeks. Thursday makes 4 weeks since pre-flowering at the bud sites.

What a confusing thing for me. It's like if this is normal I feel like I can move my light back down where it was?

I can't find any info on the strain you're growing except what the breeder says, and as usual they're claiming 8-9 weeks from seed to harvest.
For shorter flowering strains the stigmas/pistils should start turning colours around 4 to 6 weeks into flower.
In my current grow they started changing colours 35 to 36 days after flipping the lights, so around 21 to 28 days, into flower.
I'm not seeing any signs of light stress in your upper leaves either, so I think your light levels are good.

Thanks very much for looking into this. I'm in week 8 now.

I guess the part that has my attention is how it's only the top bud that looks like this?

Thanks again man! 👍

I think your initial PPFD numbers were a bit high.

@Melville Hobbes is correct about the pistils changing color but in this case your target PPFD for flower should be around 700ppfd and you had it at 960ppfd. IMO, the discoloration was from too intense a light.
Hmm. There are a few growers here who go above that in flower.
@Jon comes to mind, maybe he'll chime in. He grows autos too, so he may have some auto insight.

I agree. His plant could take more light depending on the cultivar. It's really just testing to see how much light the plant can take. The plants only been in flower for 3 weeks going on 4. He should still have at least 4 more weeks, if not more, before he can even think about harvesting. Usually, pistils tend to start to brown up around week 6 - 7 or later.

I agree, it's strain dependent.
So is the point at which pistils change.
If it's a quick flowering strain it can start earlier.
That's why I tried to look up grow journals featuring this strain.
This thread and seedbanks selling it were the only relevant results.
Like I mentioned, my current plants stigmas started to change colour around 21 days after the first sign of flower. However they're photos, not autos.

Ever since I first started trying to learn about growing weed I've wondered about the multiple views that are presented. It's occurring to me now that if all the variables in different methods weren't enough, different cultivars can require different types of horticulture.

Like even if the conversation was limited to auto flowers . . . What may be true for one grower could be diametrically opposed to what is true for another on a given issue and in this sense based on each's personal experience with their autos, with their own cultivars each is correct! This is where the rubber meets the road I think, experienced successful growers can totally disagree on something that seems like it should be black and white and they can each be right. Hmmm . . .

Can anyone tell me what these are please? I tried to look online to find out but all I can see is info about bracts and pistils at bud sites. I can't find out why these are at all nodes . Thank you!

Those are the first bracts/calyxes that formed as your plant was going into flower.
They're older than the rest so they've matured earlier, and have now swollen.
Each bud is a cluster of those.
I mostly just ignore them unless they turn brown. If they're brown, they're dead and can cause mould.
They can also turn brown if there's a seed in them that has reached maturity, but you'd probably have noticed if your plant had been pollinated.

This is good to know. Thank you! 👍👍👍

Just as a follow -up note: Looking at how good she looks overall and her buds in particular . . . giving her the cocktail, trimming her diseased leaves and backing off with light intensity were all correct actions.

Especially backing off the light. She and the buds just look happier since I did that if that makes any sense. 🙂

Flowers are starting to fatten up!!!!😀

@Ramblinrose1965 , it's possible that I'm high but looking at them now, it seems like these buds have gotten twice as big as they were two days ago before I cut the lights back. But what do I know, I'm not a fan of dead and co.
