My First Plant - Cookie Killer (Auto)

Once flower set happens there isn't much more you can do as far as promoting more bud sites. That happens pre flower. This round let her do her thing and watch and observe. The next time you can plan out the training you will be doing to position her the way you want. You can also try your hand at growing a photo period seed which will allow you to grow it as big as you want and employ some of the techniques I mentioned earlier. You'll need a proper space to do it in so as you're watching your plant grow now start thinking about what you want to do for the next time.

Other than watering her and making sure she has enough light there isn't much you need to do. Just keep an eye out for any deficiencies that may crop up as you aren't on a regular feeding program or any bugs that decide your plant would make a great lunch.

Hey Buddy :ciao: Hope today is going well.
I agree, if he can provide 12 hrs of darkness a photo is the way to go for future endeavors.
Better control over size shape and overall just more fun I find.
Never grew an auto I’ve been happy with. :Namaste:
Lots of members are great at it, bless them.
But they are experienced growers , usually.
Lots of knowledge about plant growth and different requirements along the way.
It looks like a easy option to start with but autos aren’t the magic plant that everyone envisions.
Finicky and very unforgiving IMO.
Quality genetics and fems are what I prefer.
If you switch you won’t regret it :thumb:

This is calming. Looks like I can go with the flow now. Thanks man! 👍☮️

I hear ya Brother! I'm old skool so almost all my experience has been with photoperiod plants and seeds. These new fangled autos and the such are not the newb saviour they think they are as you said. Honestly, I don't get the appeal as the only real difference is changing the light schedule to signal flowering in photoperiod genetics. Other than that the care and stuff is essentially the same. I guess because of the light sensitivity built into the genetics of photoperiod plants it's a little harder to keep them in the dark for 12 hours but, again, you can do that with a cardboard box if need be.

Someone on another site is supposed to be sending me a bunch of auto seeds to try out so I guess we'll see how they do. I have a CFL in my momma tent that is stressing out the moms so this will also give me an excuse to buy a better light for them and the auto I'd grow with them since the light schedule for moms is 18/6 and my other tents are set to 12/12. I've read that going 20/4 will result in a larger overall plant but for this run I'll do the 18/6 as a standard to gauge growth performance.

Who should I direct auto questions to? Who's the guru? From what I saw it looks like @Carmen Ray but are there others I should use for auto questions when I get to it?

This is calming. Looks like I can go with the flow now. Thanks man! 👍☮️

No worries my guy! First runs are always nerve racking when you don't know what to expect. Just keep posting updates as most of the key players on the site are subbed to your thread so when they roll through if they see something off they'll tell you.

BTW...the only dumb question is the one that was never asked........

A dear friend of mine just happens to be very proficient at the art of growing those confound plants 🤣
He actually is in a 5x5 run just starting now, all autos.
Trying to beat another friend in Thailand with a 5x5.
@Jon is who I’d speak to.
Hey Amigo :ciao:
Friendly and knowledgeable gentleman.
Here is their shoot out.

Hahahaha! I saw that thread and dipped my toes into it but got distracted by other stuff.

@Jon - Any tips or tricks for an old skool photo fool?

Well, it looks like the learning continues . . .

I noticed these two sets of leaves just now at the very bottom of the plant. She's. 28" tall now.

It looks like an issue. Leaf tips pointing upwards on one and blotches on both. These leaves are next to each other.

Can anyone help me to understand this please? Thank you!

I think what I'm seeing on my leaf has much in common with this Septoria Leaf Spot.

I just read upward curling of leaf tips can be caused by too dry in-between watering, it did get too dry overnight before I watered it this morning. She is drinking a ton of water now at this stage.

In my ignorance of growing cannabis, if I was on my own with this new development I would say a combination of the above two things is a good possibility based on everything I've read.

Anybody else 🙂🙏

Easy there Cowboy!!!🤠

The two lamps you have for side lighting. How much heat are they giving off? Looks to me like the leaf tips are hitting the heat zone if the bulbs are incandescent and leaf hormones are twisting it away from the heat source. You may want to back them away a little or remove them all together. I've never found side lighting to do much as far as improving yields but some swear by it.

Ask first because I'm not all that learned on autos but, as far as defoliation, you may want to trim some of the water leaves towards the bottom of the plant and open it up for better air circulation. Any leaves touching dirt should be removed.

Cowboy? 😂👍

I've been watching the leaves by the side lamps like a hawk. That's not where the funky leaves were, they were in the back facing the wall. I moved the lamps farther away though to be safe.

I would love to trim some leaves at the bottom. I've actually had to restrain myself from doing this in past weeks because I know it would send the growth hormones energy upward to the buds. I did turn my fan up now so all the leaves are gently rustling including the back side low against the wall.

You are correct, I do have a John Wayne side when it comes to plants. 🙂 Otherwise, if I saw this on any of my other plants I'd have no problem saying this is a fungus.

To trim or not to trim? Hmmm . . .

What size container is this? This plant looks like it wants a bigger container
You are actually spot on! I noticed roots starting to come out the drainage holes this morning.

It's in a 3 gallon plastic nursery pot.

Roots at the bottom are normal as the tap root first goes to the bottom then spreads out with secondary and tertiary roots filling the media(hopefully). 3 gal should be ok for the duration. My only concern would be the plant gets root bound from the plastic pot. Cloth pots keep this from happening through air pruning of the roots.

Here's one view about trimming now during flowering . . . "Don't even think about it. "

😆

Like in all things there is no absolute.

Most seasoned photo growers use a defoliation program of defoliation right before they change light schedule(flip) and another defol session 20 days into flip.

Contradicts what your search is telling you.......

Auto may be different but I can't see how their biology would change that much.

👍 Maybe someone with some experience with autos will be kind enough to weigh in on what the think about my blotchy deformed leaves me in the photo above?

It seems like something needs addressed whatever that is.

Like @Trump said, if it were a fabric or air pot it wouldn’t be an issue. Plastic pots root bound fairly easily. Once you start seeing odd deficiencies/issues that don’t make a lot of sense you’re likely close to or at root bound. Since you’re already flowering I would just hold on and increase my watering and feeding. You’re probably gonna have to water every day if not multiple times a day sooner rather than later.

As for defol, personally I don’t defol all at once. If I’m growing naturally, I prune as the plant grows. A little bit every few days and she responds well to it. I only prune for airflow. If I need light penetration I just tie the fan leaves against the stem or somewhere out of the way. Each of the leaves it has it spent energy and resources building. Once you know which places need to be taken out, you can prune the leaves before significant time and energy is spent building them.

If I’m manifolding like this:

IMG_6162.jpeg

I do 3 toppings in two stages during veg and remove everything during those stages. After that everything gets tied down, no more cuts.

Thanks for sharing the pruning on info!

So are we saying the cause of my leaf problems is a root bound plant?
