My First Journal: GG#4 In DWC & Soil

So something I like to do prior to flipping my girls...Friday when my lights go off, They will go into my separate closet to get 24-36 hours of complete darkness before going into 12/12. I feel doing this jumpstarts flowering a little bit.

A contest for what if you don't mind me asking?

Having a awesome journal!

Im rotten about followup on peoples journals. There's just too many, I find my interest and focus is mostly on new memebers and unanswered questions.

Hey I just thought of something @West Hippie brought up a good point about painting a yellow top on a diy hydro tote black in a thread here, shared a picture, I wonder how much light you might be getting through that red can?

I don't plan on keeping this around long. Just wanted to root a clone fast really. I am working on a 6-8 site bubble cloner using a black bin. My blue buckets for the new setup are getting sprayed black and I am wrapping them in reflective material.

Having a awesome journal!

I try to keep it updated with everything and anything I do or see in the garden but I don't think my journal even comes close to what some members here have. While I just learned DWC and still learning the ropes of it, I feel comfortable with it now to be able to help other members along if they need it as well.

but I don't think my journal even comes close to what some members here have.

What do they have that you dont? You have regular thorough updates (not too thorough, thank you!), interaction, great documentation, you ask questions, get suggestions and are receiving growing interest from other members who are helping or learning from their advice...what am I missing that doesn't come close?

Very valid point. I didn't look at it that way at all. Thank you.

Can’t win it if you ain’t in it. :Namaste:
Very true. I can't wait for my next journal. I get to apply everything I have learned here. As I always say, I am really grateful to have you all following along. I doubt I would have gotten this far without you all. I am pretty sure I would have a "what's wrong with my plant " thread going if I didn't have you all here.

I hate to break it to you but if you are like me there is always that thought of how much better you are going to next time around. Then the next time comes with different challenges and you start to say to yourself I will do better the next time. It never ends but when you look back on previous grows and yields you will see how much you have improved.

You are doing great with this grow. Give yourself some credit. You listen and learn quick. That puts you ahead of most. There are a ton of members that ask for advice and don't heed it and thus never improve.

Yea there is always something I wish I did or could have done at the end of the grow. Reading threads and books only teach me so much. I really only learn from mistakes and doing it myself. Luckily she is a forgiving plant for the most part. Not learning something new everyday is a failure to me.

Here's a little bit on how I clone in soil.

This is a 10 day process for me that I have found great results with. Starting with day one I fill some Solo cups with my soil and wet it a little. I also go select my cuts from the plant. Cutting at a 45 degree angle and scrapping the back lower side a little until I see a little white. Then I drop the cuts into a cup of water for a couple minutes until I get all my cuts or whenever I am ready to plant them. I have kept clone cuts alive in cups of just plain water for quite a while before planting them. Anyways, once I am ready to plant the cut, I dip the very end of the stem in Clonex rooting gel and make sure I cover around a good inch or so from the bottom of them stem. Once I plant the stem, I take a plastic sandwich bag and cover the Solo completely then tape all the way around tightly. This is day #1. After this is all done, into the tent she goes. The rest I will give day to day all the way to day 10.

Day #
1) Cut, plant and prepare cup with clone
2) Smoke some flower, enjoy and repeat
3) Cut 1 top left or right corner to create a small hole top of plastic bag
4) Repeat Day 2
5) Repeat Day 2 & 4
6) Cut the opposite corner of plastic bag to create a small hole
7) Repeat Day 2, 4 & 5
8) Repeat Day 2, 4, 5 & 7
9) Open both holes in bag a little more then they are
10) Open holes even bigger then before

On the morning of day 11 I remove the plastic bag and 9 times out of 10 the clone has rooted. I used to have bad times cloning plants but ever since I started using this method, I have been able to clone very easily.

A little update....DWC plant has been moved into her dark room last night. Tomorrow morning when my TS-3000 kicks on, I'll be removing her from the dark and moving her into her final resting spot.

Question.....does a 3 gallon and 5 gallon bucket make a difference in a DWC grow? Kinda like putting a plant in a 1 gallon compared to a 5 gallon.

Soil GG#4 is in the front middle. Getting very big...they are all coming along nicely. Should be flipping them in about a week as well. Same treatment.....dark period then into 12/12 they go.

Love Potion #69 coming along just nicely as well. Keeping an eye on her though as I am not too fond of that bright color she has. Something I will continue monitoring.

The bigger the better in my experience .. good luck!! :)
Thank you. I don't need luck when I got an awesome group helping me along the way. I promise you guys, the next journal, you will all be proud.

Biggest thing is less adding of water
When she drinks a gallon+ a day, a 3gal will be almost empty, 5 gal won't
I have noticed that I have been topping off alot more then as previous weeks. Makes perfect sense too. Thank you!!!

My GG4 is a big drinker in her 5gal

Usually over a gallon a day, others not so much yet, rest are in 3gal buckets
Now when I get to this point and I am sure I will.....if you have to add 1 gallon back in daily, do you mix a gallon of nutes as well? What I mean is...lets say Monday I change my res and put the PPM around 1200. The next day I need to top off with 1 gallon and the PPM drops to 1100. Next day, another gallon with a PPM level drop to 1000. Should I keep allowing to drop until the next res change or do I add in the nutes to keep it in that range? Hope I typed it to make sense.

Usually all add mixed nutes to top off the bucket
Lately, for Big Girl,I've just added water cuz she is drinking so much

I'm doing a full Rez/bucket change today
Probably just add water tomorrow
Add nutes on Saturday
Rinse and repeat

The smaller buckets/plants I add nutes every time I add to buckets
