My First Hydro Setup

So here's today's pictures, no need for the measurements this time around as you can see the growth is great, I'm going to top the water up in the tank today at some point, I'm thinking of getting a new piece of plastic corrugated sheeting and put the two net pots in so that they don't take much space up at the moment as there being moved to a smaller space later this week.

I mentioned using House and Garden Roots Excelurator but does anyone recommend any other root enhancers that are good from any stage in growth?

Looks good. Root enhancers I don’t myself use anything at this stage. Only the basics to keep it simple and as cheap as possible. I do know HG makes great products that’s for sure.

so I have created my feed schedule, it's based around 8 weeks as the seed bank states it's a 55-60 day strain and I've found I can harvest a Northern Lights strain usually a week before or on time of what they say but if i needed to adjust I could add an extra week here or there but in the most perfect conditions I can't see this being a problem.

I don't think I will add anything else as I'd like to see how these Remo Nutrients turn out, but I may add a sweetener in the few days I flush.

Your feed lay out looks great. Should be good. After you run your feed regimen a few times and get a few good runs under your belt try it with just the basics. I have cut all the jazz out of mine with the exact same results and more money in my pocket. I only run cal/ mag and A/B and a fortifier with H2O2 with great results. Just something else to think about in case you haven’t enough on your plate. Plants look good and will be hungry soon.

Yeah I've been told by a few people to just run the basics as the yields stay around the same which I could see being the same, this Remo Nutrients Supercharge kit is a very little amount of money so even if one of these can last a year or so that will do me and this way at least my setups fresh all year around.

I'm looking into taking around 40 clones from the future mother plants I get from cloning these two plants, plan on doing a very light mix of 50/50 coco/perlite in 60x30cm pots of I get 4 it will cover this 2x4 tent perfect, if you'd like to read more on my plans visit my SOG journal.

I keep topping the tank up daily with around 1-200ml so at least there is something happening in the base of that tank, these are going on a cupboard from tonight as I'm getting home improvements for a few weeks from tomorrow and I will be ordering another oxy pot tomorrow so as soon as it's here I'm putting them in the net pots straight away.

Here is there new home for a few weeks, I plan to buy a piece of corrugated plastic and cut two holes in it to sit the new net pots in to help root development come down.

One thing I have noticed is the clay pebbles have a white powdery substance on them and it's mixing with the water I have no idea what it is but im wondering if it's harmful just normal from new pebbles, they were washed before use?

So today they look a little droopy which is a bit worrying, I have transplanted them into the net pots today, I put one layer of pebbles then sat the cube and roots in then filled the tank up to the top of the first layer of pebbles so in line with the cubes, as the water drops I will just maintain a below net pot level.

All looks good over there hopefully they r droopy from the transplanting and perk back up. If they don’t straighten out maybe try dropping the water level so the cube isn’t touching water. This will give the roots some air and give them a very clear sense of direction to grow as they search for the water.

So here they are after a few days transplant, roots are bright white and don't look brown like they do in the picture, there now starting to yellow off a little so I'm going so start feeding nutrients from tomorrow and have the water level 1 or 2" below the net pot is that about right?

Hey man the little ladies r looking like they bounced back nicely. Roots should be fine with water level 1 or 2 inches below the net pot now that the roots have dropped below the net pot. Keep the air Stones pumping and with a little food they should explode. Nicely done on getting them this far happy and healthy. Now keep the res temp in check and you r off to the races.

I have just fed them with the following:

PPM: 350
PH: 5.7

10ml - Micro
5ml - Grow
5ml - VeloKelp
5ml - Magnifical

I ended up dropping the water level down to around an inch below the net pot, was a bit of a nightmare ph'ing it so I think next time I will just make some up and drop the other out.

Now is the time to figure out how is best to work with them in your setup. Going forward all being good there will be a day when the root balls are massive and the plant is top heavy and drinking as much as 2 or 3L every 24 hrs requiring you to top off daily to keep your numbers in check. If your ppm is staying the same or dropping and the water level is the same your ph should be rising this is normal at this stage. You just have to find how keeping the numbers in check works best for you.

I looked at them this morning and they were still looking a little yellow/green fading but I'm sure over time this will change, I had to drop the water out of them as the viewing pipe 90 bend into the tank was loose and ended up leaking water but I managed to tighten them but if they do start again I will have to put a drop tray in.

There in fresh water, I gave 5ml of each of the nutrients I used last time to a whole 12L PH'd to 5.7, I may adjust the ph to 5.5 so it can raise a few points over the week so I don't need to keep pulling them in and out as there up a height and I have to lean over and my backs not the greatest, don't suppose anyone would no how long it takes the ph to rise 0.5 would be great to know?

I'm for sure thinking of getting a high quality silent air pump as the ones I have had supplied vibrate and are a little loud so I'd like an over powered one to hopefully get a better outcome in the root zone.

I'm just wondering if anyone knew of any systems that automatically alter the ph of the res tanks or I could join both tanks together and have one separate res to feed both pots, I know it will chance to be an expensive machine but it will be worth it for me over time as I may eventually move back up to a 4x4 or similar with the pair so it will be a long term investment.

My temp in the res tank earlier was 24.8c in the previous tank so I gather that was a problem but now there in there final pots they have been in around an hour and the water temp is now 17.5c so any more high spikes I will make some covers out of reflective bubble wrap.

I'm using a temperature wire gauge for rooms will this be roughly accurate for the res temps as that's where I'm getting the readings from.

So the pictures are from this afternoon before and after the transplant.

Hey man I hope all is good. You can absolutely join those two buckets together and add a res to them and run them as RDWC. I choose RDWC as well because of my back. It’s fucked. All my maintenance gets done from my res and it looks like this.
My res runs 8 buckets and is out side my grow so I can work standing up as well as during lights out. The ph is controlled by a ph controller. Once I put my plants in the buckets they never get moved until harvest. As well by not having to lift the plants out you can scrog the hell out of them.

What would I do then just stick a T piece on to another tank and what ever level that tank is the other two are the same height would that be right bud?
Kinda but you have to circulate the water as well. There r many different ways and designs but depending on what’s available/funds/space/ect. Some people can’t get certain things or have to order online. First google RDWC systems and UC systems. Then you will get some ideas of how you want to circulate. You don’t want to throw something together your not happy with as hydro can get expensive. Also cons of a multiple site system are if you mess up you can lose everything instead of just one plant. This keeps me on my A game. As well as it may be hard to run multiple strains at once due to different feeding between plants. I only run 1 strains in the system at once. I DIY everything and these systems r much cheaper to build. Here’s my system.
I feed to the tops of the buckets with half inch line and drain out the bottom of each bucket through a 2 inch return pvc back to my res. I do feed to the top but my water level in the buckets is always 2 inches below the net pot. This is controlled by the level in my res. I also have a air stone in every bucket and the water looks like it’s boiling. But look at a few systems on line and c how you want to go about it.
