Mutt's 2nd Organic Grow - Soil - TGA Genetics

re: Mutt's 2nd Organic Grow - Soil - TGA Genetics

7 gallon .... or number 10. Huge difference with the larger pot. The water seems to last longer in the bigger pot. I don't seem to have to water them as much ... or use as much when I do water. Plus .... more room, more dirt, more roots ..... more buds. That's my theory anyway.

I am using 3 gallon pots in the veg area. That way, I can repot them into the 7 gallons with more fresh dirt (with fresh nutes) right before flower.

re: Mutt's 2nd Organic Grow - Soil - TGA Genetics

When I water my 7 gallon pots, I give them each about 3/4 of a gallon every 4th day. They seem to like that schedule and the top 3 to 4 inches of dirt is pretty dry this way. I keep my veg box in 3 gallon pots. They are on the same feed and water schedule, but they only take 1/3 - 1/2 gallon. This way, I can repot them when it comes time to move them to the flower box.

Day 19 Flower

5 Ripped Bubba and 1 Jillybean ... TGA Strains

I'm going to stick with the 1/2-3/4 of a gallon every 4th day. This schedule is really working well. So, I'll stick with it for now. I moved the plants around a little. I put the Jillybean in the back corner to cut down on it's light a little and put the two biggest ripped bubba next to it. I figure that might slow her down a little. They stopped with the wicked crazy stretch and are now starting to really pack on some cottonballs.

This is my favorite stage of growth (other than seedlings) and I really like when all the little white flowers come out.

Now for the veg box. The plants are really loving the 3 gallon pots. They are loving the BPN nutes. They are loving the 400w MH light. The problem is, they are quickly growing. I am not sure how long this box will handle them. I may have to seriously consider flipping them in the veg box. They are already almost to the size that I would move them to the flower box. Good thing my only problem right now is that my plants are growing too well ...... LOL (knock on wood).

re: Mutt's 2nd Organic Grow - Soil - TGA Genetics

Lately I've been reading alot about defoliating. I like to lollipop (take off the bottom 3rd useless crap) to give the top branches more energy. But, this defoliating is a whole different animal. But there is a ton of info out there and it looks so tempting. I've read the arguments on both sides. And, both have merit. But, there is some posts out there that actaully show the progression of the buds after a heavy defoliation. That is what actaully made me decide to actaully try it.

So, I took the smallest plant I have in flower (wasn't as big as the other 5 when I flipped it) and decided to defoliate it. I figure it won't produce as much as the others since it's shorter and won't get as much light. And, if this defoliating works and it produce a shit load, then it would also be much more noticable .... since it's the smallest and shortest plant. So, I decided to use this plant as an test subject. If it produces more than the other 5 plants do, then it's a success. If it doesn't produce much, then I aint out much ... since it's the runt of the litter.

The way I see it is this .... deer have been eating the leaves off of pot plants for thousands of years and they grow just fine ... LOL

Since it's now at 21 days of flower, it's at the perfect time for the first defoliation. So, I decided to take off ever single fan leaf that had an atual stem that was at least 2 inches long. The tiny little leaves were left on there. It needs some photosynthesis .... so I left the tiny ones. Here's what she looked like before the trimming ..............

I started at the top and worked my way down. Was much easier that way since the fan leaves are no longer in the way. It freaked me out a little to do this.

She looks pretty sad. And looks rediculous in the box with the other plants. But, I can already see that the light gets all the way down to the dirt. So, even the tiniest little sucker bud should get light. Hope it works.

Nice update but you are some crazy Muttt :)

I didnt like when I did a defo. I think its better to keep the leaves on because how will the plant get its energy now? That was my big question after doing so. And I havent seen a big difference after either. Just my opinion though. You have a bigger light source than me so hopefully it works

re: Mutt's 2nd Organic Grow - Soil - TGA Genetics

That's what I was thinking. I may not need as many leaves since I have an overabundance of light. But we shall see. If it don't work out, I'm only out a few buds. No big deal. I won't do the other 5 ..... at least for a few weeks. If this thing blows the fuck up ... I may just have to do the other ones. But for now, I'll just let them be. I need something to compare it too anyway.

re: Mutt's 2nd Organic Grow - Soil - TGA Genetics

LOL .... no more injections???

re: Mutt's 2nd Organic Grow - Soil - TGA Genetics

I decided I am going to do a picture update of the defoliation every two days. I'm not sure how the buds will do. But, if they do well, I'd really like a picture dairy to document it. It would also be cool to do a slide show or something that shows the buds develope 2 days at a time. Should be interesting anyway. So, I'll post up more pics tomorrow. It's feed and water day. So, it's a good time to do another update.

LMAO  not right now atleast. I figure I killed off enough relatives for the year :laughtwo:

This time 3 plants died from over feeding which I really dont know that happened oh yea to much calcium. Dont add bone meal with CaMg+:)

Are these plants indica or sativa dominant?

PS Be Irie visited your journal how cool is that :)

re: Mutt's 2nd Organic Grow - Soil - TGA Genetics

I went down and checked on the girls today. I was actually suprised. In the last 24 hours, the little tiny leaves I left on the experiment, have all doubled in size. But the really amazing part is the trichomes. None of the other plants have any visible trichomes on them. But, the one I defoliated has just pump out crazy trichomes over night. About half the surface area of most of the upper leaves are now just covered in Trochomes. I didn't expect this. And, since it is only 22 days in flower .... I wonder how much more trichs it will produce. :slide:

Wiz ..... I'm sure glad your sticking with my journal. Not sure why, but not very many subscribers this time. I must have pissed them off with my last journal.

re: Mutt's 2nd Organic Grow - Soil - TGA Genetics

I am liking your experiment with the runt. I hope she packs on the weight along with an overabundance of trichomes. is that even possible.

I like this show think I am going to stick around!

re: Mutt's 2nd Organic Grow - Soil - TGA Genetics

I like your little test plant. Will be interesting to watch. I find that the plants recover from defoliation VERY quickly. If you take off a shade leaf, that node is still being sent resources, so the plant just puts them into the new growth instead of making that big leaf bigger.

re: Mutt's 2nd Organic Grow - Soil - TGA Genetics

I've experienced the same thing mutt. IMO it's a reaction to losing the fan leaves the buds try to protect themselves naturally with more trich production. Just their basic defense mechanism working to our advantage IMO.

re: Mutt's 2nd Organic Grow - Soil - TGA Genetics

Looking god over here Mutt! I think you will be surprised with how well the defol works. I am.

Welcome to the show. Feel free to join in anytime.

If i'd have known about the trichs, I would have done it a long time ago .... LOL. More trichs can only be a good thing.
