Mono's 600 Watt HPS Soil Grow 2013

Hi Mono.

Nice detail on the clones. Sorry to see you had a 33% success rate. I tried clones in rockwool and had similar success. They also took a really long time (like 3 weeks for the survivors to establish). A little over a week ago I ran a side-by-side test using rockwool and a home-made aero cloner. The results were night-and-day. Here is a DIY for the cloner and a couple shots of my results for the 1st run.

Happy growing!

I'ma give that a try tomorrow. Perfect, just what I was looking for, thank you :) Had a look at your journal, really nice to see what you are doing for your wife.

howdy brother,

IME it is better to do heavier pruning before you enter into flowering fully- heavier pruning can impact on bud development by interfering with sap flow and the plants physiology, it can confuse the plant that would send sap/minerals to the area of the plant that was once there and hence MAY result in slight through to pronounced stunting. heavier defoliation in the flowering stages, on the other hand, can be beneficial, if thats the route you wish to take- usually though, with heavier defoliation, you may wish to tie down to expose as many bud sites to light as possible as this is the fundamental reason for heavy defoliation- EXPOSURE TO LIGHT-to increase flower size... as opposed to leaving more leaves on for the purposes of photosynthesis, transpiration, storage of energy, production of sugars etc

after entering into flowering though, you may wish to avoid pruning and just stick with defoliation.

sorry Sir... im assuming by "pruning" you mean removal of parts of the plants?? e.g. branches- "lollipopping" and cleaning out bottom growth as akin to scrog, root pruning etc ...or do you simply mean taking leaves off? if the latter then you should be fine bro.

all the best with your decision :peace:

yeah sativa dom plants will stretch consiberably in the first few weeks of flower so it may be a good idea to simply turn them much sooner rather than later :cheesygrinsmiley: my cinderella 99's(my last grow) stretched from 1 foot to close to 7 foot in just under 3 weeks! but they were 100% sativa so was to be expected... i knew they would grow which is why i turned them over at 1 foot... but they certainly freaked me out a bit by more than quadrupling their height! loL topping a week or so before turning to flower can certainly help slow growth but depending on flavour they will still stretch-which isnt necessarily a bad thing!

peace

Okay, so it appears that leaving the door open to my bedroom managed to keep the night time temps above 21 degrees Celsius so a more acceptable range than 18 degrees. Clones were transplanted into bigger containers this morning, planning on flowering them at the end of next week if growth continues well.

The 4th plant that was growing slowly has been taking up unnecessary space in the veg tent so it seemed like a good idea to just put her under the 12/12 light cycle and see what she does.

Have been doing a bit of research about taking clones during flowering as I want to preserve the genetics of the strongest growing plant. From what I could find it seems that day 21 is the best day to make the cut and I'm best to use lower branches that generally don't amount to much anyway. Does this sound about right to anyone? Or am I totally off the ball?

Just bought canna pk 13/14 from amazon. Has anyone got any tips on using it ?

I've used it,it's a good product.Check out the instructions on the Canna website h**p://www.canna-uk.com/pk_13_14 is the best bet.The main tip with using it is to only use it once a week.

Sweet. I alternate between fertilizing and watering which so far has meant I've never had to flush a plant grown in soil (touch wood). So would you say add it too the terra flores? Or add it mid week when they get plain ph balanced water?

Add it with the base nutrients is the way to go.

If you're in soil you don't need to PH stuff as the soil acts as a buffer. It's only hydro & coco you need to adjust the PH.

For best results, once you start feeding is to then feed with every watering, rather than feed, plain water, feed, plain water. If you're worried about fertilizer build up in the soil then go with full dose feed, half dose feed, full dose feed & so on.As long as your pots aren't too big,so you don't have lots of unused soil going sour, flushing midway through a grow isn't something you'll need to worry about.

I don't test PH of the water I use, but we are on a private water supply here so can't drink the water. (high lead content) So, we buy bottled water. Just so happens it balances out around ph 6.8 at run off after adding nutes :).

I'm using 10 liter pots, fully rooted out before switching the lights to 12/12. I was always just very cautious of over fertilizing the plants, letting them 'want' a little for their nutes. So it would seem they are missing out on some by having just plain water every second watering when they could be having mild nutes?

Would fertilizing each time improve yield? Or just overall plant health?
