Mono's 600 Watt HPS Soil Grow 2013

I don't think yours will get as big mate, I super cropped em about three times on each branch and they just kept on stretching lol I got just short of 19 oz mate from 10 plants

Okay so I took the 4th plant out and put it back in the veg tent. Should be okay, her light cycle hasn't changed. Want to try and figure out what is causing the growth to be considerably slower than the others. I flushed and gave her a good prune and chucked her back under 130 watts of CFL.

Anyone got any tips on making a light box or something? I'm concerned that the two oscillating fans I'm using for air intake will cause light leak problems and give me some lovely hermies lol

i put mines striaght under hid mate ive got a 125 6400k cfl and pretty much only used it for a week, soon as theyve popped i get em under the hps but make sure its not too close, maybe pruning causing the slow growth, or may just be genetics mate ive had a few strains that have had different phenos and ended up with completely different plants

Quick update. Been really busy the past couple of days with starting a new job and buying a new car so been unable to put any pics up. Plants have had their second flowering feed and clones have been transplated and given a weak veg feed. Will do a proper update with pics tomorrow. What are you guys thoughts on pruning during flowering?

If a fan leaves blocking a bud site I would have no problems choppin it off but the plant would do away with fan leave etc if it didn't need or want them there, this is just my opinion tho, there are loads of different views on the subject

Okay a few pics. The first is of one of the clones before being transplanted

This is a picture of the plants after 4days of 12/12. Some mad growth on the plant to the right.

:thanks: To everyone who has had some input so far. I will update with some more pictures later on.

So as stated above they are now on their 4th day of 12/12. Growth has been very fast since switching the lights with massive stretch going on. They are a mainly indica strain and I have 6ft of grow height so not too fussed about stretch. They have had a single fertilization of flowering nutes which has had great results.

PICS!

Will upload some more in an hour or so. I have ordered 6 white widow seeds, I have grown them before, from the same company with good results under CFL's so looking forward to growing them under HPS. I also ordered 5 of the super iced grapefruit seeds from my last grow so will be interesting to see the results under HPS. I will be germinating these seeds just after the weekend, not sure how many of each as needing to stagger them. Think I can fit about 9 plants in the flowering tent at a time so aiming to stagger so as to harvest a plant a week and replace with a new one upon harvest.

I also need to perfect my cloning technique. What would you guys recommend as a good medium for rooting clones?

:peace:

:woohoo:

Well, plants have now been on the 12/12 light cycle for seven days now. Growth has exploded over night with one plant putting on 3 inches of growth during the night. I have a clearly stronger plant than the others, it has more than doubled in size during the pre-flowering stage.

It looks like buds are beginning to form at the top of some of the branches so must be nearing the beginning of flowering and the count down to hopefully a bountiful harvest.

A few questions. Does anyone know the best way to take pics under a HPS? Or am I better just taking the plant(s) out of the tent?

Also, will temps dropping to 18 degrees Celsius during the night when lights are off cause any problems?

:peace:

Hey Mono it is all looking great man! Im on day 8 flower, I looked in the tent this morning and was like WTF! Never thought they would grow this fast overnight man, kinda freakish!! They are looking quite similar to the girls I got going right now man, I'll upload some more pics today so if ya wanna stop by you can compare em. Ima keep stopping by im subbd! We have very similar set ups, I also did my first round of clones, cant wait to see success rate :thumb: keep it up bud cant wait to see some fat collas on your and mine both!!!

Edit: and got picture taking under HPS, I haven't found a good way yet as im only a week into it, I've just been taking them out of the tent and setting them up by a cfl, little bit brighter light, not as orange!

Thanks for your kind words and support mate. I'ma jump over to your journal and take a look now. As for taking pics under HPS I think I might do the same and just take them out of the tent.

.......will temps dropping to 18 degrees Celsius during the night when lights are off cause any problems ?

At 18 deg C you're just on the limit, any colder & you then start to get diminished yields. The roots zone is the main thing you need to keep above 18 deg C.
You said "during the night when lights are off" Do you have your lights on during the daytime ? If you run your lights during the night time it'll stop your room getting too hot as the air is colder at night. Then have your dark period during the day as the warmer daytime air will keep your plants warm so you don't need added heating until the winter months. When you do need additional heating during the winter a lot of people in the UK use an electric blanket for this as they're are normally only 150w-200w of electric, rather than using a 2kw heater.
Just lay it on the floor & stick your plants on the top, most good electric blankets are machine washable so they are waterproof & take the weight of a human being,so will take the weight of the plant pots.
I went for the posh option & got an electric underfloor heating mat, again only 200w & it raises the temps by about 5 deg C which is enough to keep me out of trouble.

Your garden looks good :thumb:,Don't think you'll need much more help as you seem to be well on top of it :goodjob:

We are still getting temps here of -10 degrees C outside during the evening but should begin to pick up during the next couple of weeks. Problem is my grow tent is in my bedroom where the wife and I sleep so don't really want fan running at full speed during the night, it's much more comfortable to be able to turn it down lower at lights out.

I will put a baby gate on my bedroom door to keep the dogs in at night, that way can leave the door open to allow the heat in (Don't have bedroom heaters in my house, old electric storage heaters). Hopefully that will keep the temps high enough. If not I think I might try the electric blanket route. Although not too sure how safe it is laying on a floor where water could possibly drip from the pots...?

Thank you very much for your input. I was not aware that simply closing the bedroom door at night could end up resulting in diminished yields.

If you get a blanket that is machine washable you'll have no problem.Just keep the blanket controller off the floor if you're really worried about dripping water.

Hi Mono.

Nice detail on the clones. Sorry to see you had a 33% success rate. I tried clones in rockwool and had similar success. They also took a really long time (like 3 weeks for the survivors to establish). A little over a week ago I ran a side-by-side test using rockwool and a home-made aero cloner. The results were night-and-day. Here is a DIY for the cloner and a couple shots of my results for the 1st run.

5 gallon bucket cheap cloner DIY

Happy growing!
